Hello, Reception and Year One!

We hope you had a great start to your week and enjoyed the home learning activities! Well done for your super work!

Here we are on Week 2 of Home Learning! Remember to go at your own pace, and choose the activities which are best for you and your child. Please do adapt them too as needed!

If you need any help or advice at all, please send us a message on Class Dojo and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Have a great day!

A Day in Reception/Year One...

During an ordinary day in our classes, we will cover the following subjects:

Maths- Focusing on one topic for at least a week

Phonics – learning to read and write

Literacy/Topic- Learning about a special story or certain reading/writing skills

We also like to have a story and a wiggly dance!

We have included activities to link with these as much possible in the slides below, to continue your child's learning whilst they are at home.

These are always broken up with lots of free-flow play, with opportunities to move, create and explore- do try to avoid extended periods sitting down at home

(3)

For today's wiggle please enjoy moving to...

‘Prince Ali’ from Aladdin!

Can you write your name?

Can you practise writing your name each day? If you can already write your name, see how small and neat you can

make it!

Year Ones can you practise your middle and last names too? Try to make sure you start each letter in the right place!

You could use chalk, gel pens, crayons, felt tips, biros and more…

Maths- Main Activity (R)

Can you complete these addition sentences using the Adding Machines?

(10)

Maths – Main Activity (Y1)

Addition using a numberline

Today we are going to practise

counting on along a numberline to solve an addition sentence.

So... one jump along will be landing on number 2, two jumps along will land on number 3. ( 1+ 2= 3)

We need a start number to count on from. We shall start at number 1. If my addition

calculation was 1 + 2, we need to take 2 jumps along.

Can you work out what the

addition calculation is this time by reading the numberline? This time our start number is 2.

Well done! 2 + 2 = 4

See the next slide to practise some numberline additions.

Phonics

This week in Phonics we will start to learn some new sounds at home!

Each day we will focus on a new sound, and on a Friday we will recap what we have learnt during the week.

Phonics- Reception

This week we will be learning all about the sound...

This is a digraph- where two letters make one sound.

Our action for this sound is to put our hands by our sides and move them like a train chugging along! "ch... ch..." Have a look at the video of Miss Ellis telling you all about the sound 'ch' and there you can see the action being

demonstrated!

Have a look at Mr Thorne Does Phonics to help you remember this sound, then we have some challenges for you on the next page!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEoednLrsMY

(19)

Phonics- Reception

Can you read these words and sentence containing the 'ch' sound?

The sound buttons underneath show you when it is a single sound (e.g. c, s) or a digraph (ee, oo).

Can you read this silly sentence?

(20)

Phonics- Reception

Practise writing our new sound at home several times. Remember to leave a space between each pair!

(21)

Phonics- Reception

Finally, play 'Picnic on Pluto' on the Phase 3 section of Phonics Play with the 'ch' sound. Read each word and decide if it is a real word

(for Bob) or a made up word (for Obb).

You can log on to Phonics Play for free at present

with-username: jan21 password: home

(22)

Phonics- Year 1

How many of these Phase 3 sounds do

you recognise?

Then take a look at the Phase 5 sounds

on the next page too.

(23)

Phonics- Year 1

How many of these sounds do you recognise?

(24)

Phonics- Year 1

These are the words we aim to read and write by the end of Year 1. We can't sound them out, so we need to learn them by sight.

We will focus on a few words each week!

Do refer back to this page if you are trying to spell any of these words!

Phonics- Year 1

This week we will be learning all about the digraph...

Today we are looking at the sound 'ue' which sounds like 'you'. These letters together can also make the sound 'oo', however

today we will focus on 'ue' (you).

Have a look on Class Dojo to find Miss Ellis exploring the sound 'ue'.

You can also watch Mr Thorne and Geraldine the Giraffe to help you remember this sound...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BOih-iw1u4

A digraph is where two letters make one sound!

(27)

Phonics - Year 1

Read these words containing the sound 'ue'!

Can you rescue the cat from the tree?

(28)

Phonics- Year 1

Practise writing our new sound at home several times. Remember to leave a space between each pair!

(29)

Year 1- Writing

Write a sentence to match this

picture

Can you write a sentence to

match this picture?

Try to use as many adjectives

(describing words) as possible!

(30)

Check your writing!

Have you remembered…

• Capital letter at the start

• Finger spaces

• Listen to the sounds in each word

• Did you use any tricky words?

• Hold your pencil carefully

(31)

What to do if…

If your child is finding it hard to remember a sound, see if you can think of some games to play using that sound. You could...

▪ Hide words containing the sound around your house.

▪ Write the sound on a sticky label and get your child to wear it! Keep asking them what sound it is.

▪ Display the sound everywhere around your house and keep pointing it out to your child.

▪ Play a game on 'Phonics Play' eg. 'Buried Treasure' and use words which focus on that sound.

The Dragon Machine

We hope you enjoyed exploring the story so far! We will include the link on

here each day in case you would like to revisit it. You can also listen to Miss Ellis reading

it on Class DoJo too!

The Dragon Machine

We were so impressed yesterday with your fantastic dragon creations!

Reception challenge:

Record a video/tell a grown up at home and carefully explain the best hiding place you found for your dragon yesterday. Make sure you use words such as 'behind', 'next to', 'on top'…

(35)

The Dragon Machine

We were so impressed yesterday with your fantastic dragon creations!

Year 1 challenge:

Where did you hide your dragon yesterday?

Write a sentence about two places your dragon was hiding. Use the word ‘and’ to link your two places.

(36)

The Dragon Machine

The dark blue dragon was hiding on top of my chair.

The fierce red dragon was hiding under the table.

(37)
(38)

The Dragon Machine- Design challenge

Over the next two days we are setting you an exciting challenge to design and create a special habitat/home for your dragon.

Today think about these things...

Where do you think a dragon would like

to live? Why?

What sort of food do you think a dragon

would like to eat?

Where would a dragon like to sleep?

Would it need a cushion or a bed, would it sleep on the floor or perhaps

on a rock?

Would your dragon need anything to help it to keep warm? Or perhaps your dragon would like to

live in a place which is cold?

You might like to think about where George led the dragons in the story...

But please remember this is YOUR design, there are no right or wrong answers or ideas, and your dragon might like something different to another

(39)

Design ideas!

Think carefully about what you would like your habitat/home to look like. You may like to draw a plan of your design or get started on it straight away!

This is a project you can think about over a couple of days, however if

you'd like to get started straight away you could use Lego, junk modelling, paint or even odd bits of paper! There are some more ideas on the

next page.

You may like to use a box (maybe an old shoe box?) and make your

creation in 3D, or you could use a tray and make a slightly flatter design- it is entirely your choice! We can't wait to see what you produce!

Later in the week we will share some of your brilliant creations on the PowerPoint for everyone to see! Most importantly, have fun!!

(40)
(41)

Create your own dragon ideas...

If you didn't manage to make a dragon yesterday, then here are some ideas in case you would like to make one today!

(42)

We would love to see anything you manage to get up

to at home!

You can send photos or files to us on Class Dojo.

Staff will upload stories and other little challenges

throughout the week on our Class Story.

We hope you have a wonderful day!
