Timely Completion of

Associate Degree Programs

APC member colleges not only have

higher associate degree graduation rates than other sectors of higher education, they have greater success graduating students on-time, which helps reduce student debt and drives graduates into the workforce.

A Successful Transition from

High School to College

APC member colleges help thousands of students across the state make the successful transition from high school to college by providing extra help, smaller classes and internships. These programs energize students and place them in real-world settings.

Helping Minority and

Disabled Students Graduate

On-Time

African American, Hispanic and disabled students pursuing an associate degree at APC member colleges succeed at a rate higher than the statewide average.

Reinstate Graduate TAP

“Our colleges strive to help

employers build their futures by preparing qualified graduates who then make an immediate contribution in the workplace. At present, more employers are seeking candidates with advanced degrees. Low-income students would benefit greatly from the assistance graduate TAP would offer.”

Stephen Jerome, president of Monroe College

Support the Proposed

“Get on Your Feet”

Loan Forgiveness

Program

“This program would help ease the burden of student loan repayment on recent college graduates who participate in the federal Pay As You Earn (PAYE) income-based loan repayment program. It would allow APC’s recent graduates to focus on establishing their career, without the worry of student loan debt. It has APC’s full support and we urge the legislature to support it as well. We look forward to learning more about the proposal.”

Donna Gurnett, executive director of the Association of Propriety Colleges

Restore the

Award for the 7,000

Students Attending

Colleges That Offer

Only Two-Year

Degrees

“The TAP reduction has

impacted roughly 320 students on our Utica campus. The

majority of these students are working men and women, minorities, single parents – exactly the type of students that TAP was designed to help. They have the academic qualifications to attend

college, but TAP gives them the financial means. For them we ask lawmakers to reverse the 2010 action because of its negative impact on many of the state’s neediest students.”

Scott Williams, executive vice president of Utica School of Commerce, The Business College

Four years ago, TAP was reduced

for students enrolled in colleges

that only offer two-year degree

programs.

Many are non-traditional

students – single parents,

minority students and

those with disabilities.

Some are the first in their

family to attend college...

...exactly the type

of student TAP was

designed to help.

(8)

APC member colleges help more non-traditional students graduate with an

on-time associate degree than any other sector of higher education.

Success should be rewarded. Let’s restore full TAP funding for these students.
