Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education and in cooperation with the High School Principal, the High School Assistant Principal assists the principal in providing school-wide leadership and uses supervisory and administrative skills to ensure the educational development of each student and faculty member.
In addition to maintaining an effective instructional program, the Assistant Principal is responsible to assist with the supervision of the physical plant, the school budget, the certificated and classified staff, the student activity programs, and is responsible for maintaining active relationships with the community and close communication with other educational levels. In cooperation with the District and building-level administrators and teachers, the High School Assistant Principal will provide the leadership necessary to assist in the development and implementation of a High School program that promotes the educational well-being of each student.
1. Assists the Principal in the overall administration of the High School.
2. Serves as Acting Principal in the absence of Principal.
3. Participates in parent conferences, teacher and individual student problems.
4. Makes recommendations concerning the school’s administration and instruction.
5. Conducts observations and evaluations of the teaching staff as an instructional leader of the school. Develops a plan of improvement for teachers in need of such a plan.
6. As a member of the administrative team, makes recommendations on matters for improvement and enhancement of the teaching/learning conditions of the faculty, staff and students.
7. Interacts daily with students, faculty, staff and parents in matters of discipline, class attendance, personal and social adjustment, and general interaction to meet the objective of providing an environment conducive to learning.
8. Assists with the direction of assembly programs (i.e. pep assemblies, competition assemblies, etc.)
9. Assists with the preparation and submission of the school’s budgetary process and monitors expenditures of funds.
10. Assists with the supervision and evaluation of the extracurricular programs.
11. Assists with the organization and supervision/maintenance of all required building records and reports.
12. Assists with the implementation and observance of all relevant state rules and regulations and Board policies and regulations by the school's staff and students.
13. Assists with the development, determination and appropriateness, and monitoring of the instructional program.

21. Assists with the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning and evaluating of the school’s professional staff.
22. Assists with the orientation and development of the newly assigned staff members through the District’s mentor teacher program.
23. Assists with conducting meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
24. Assists with the in-service orientation and training of teachers, and staff administrative procedures and instructions.
25. Assists with the supervision of the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and non-academic purposes.
26. Assists with planning and supervising fire drills and the emergency preparedness program.
27. Directs cafeteria supervision, as needed.
28. Assists with requisitions supplies, textbooks and equipment; conducts educational inventories, maintains records and checks on receipts for such material.
29. Helps supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and works with the individual(s) responsible for attendance to investigate follow-up actions.
30. Assists the principal with direct supervision and evaluation of teachers and the High School Dean of Students. Assists with the joint supervision, and provides input for evaluations as necessary, the following positions (in cooperation with other District administrators):
Guidance counselors, nurses, health room/office assistants, instructional and non- instructional aides, head custodians, custodians, coaches, assistant coaches, and athletic trainers.
31. Assists with the supervision and evaluation of custodial services at the building level, including a review of building maintenance needs, which will be requested through the established work order system. Assists with the annual evaluation of building custodians, including the completion of walk-throughs, and assists with providing input for custodial inspection reports, in cooperation with the Principal and the Department of Facilities and Custodial Services.
32. Assumes other duties as may be assigned by the Principal or Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education. The District reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements of this position are:
Pennsylvania Principal Certification required; Pennsylvania K-12 Principal Certification preferred.
Master’s Degree related to education.
Minimum of five years of professional and / or administrative experience preferred, appropriate to the position.
Demonstrated knowledge and application of effective educational leadership principles, practices and trends.
Must be able to perform the above responsibilities at a high level.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Twelve-month work year. Salary and benefits will be in accordance with the Act 93 Agreement.
EVALUATION
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education and High School Principal, in accordance with the provisions of policy on Evaluation of Administrative Personnel, as amended.
