Discussion on the Application of Virtual

Experiment Teaching System in the

Basic Computer Courses in Police

Colleges and Universities

ABSTRACT

The development goal of police colleges and universities is to cultivate well-educated practical talents. By analyzing the commonness of the basic computer courses in police colleges and universities currently, this paper reveals the stress needing to be strengthened in the process of experimental teaching, and makes a thorough inquiry of the teaching mode using virtual experimental teaching system to improve students' practical ability, thus providing more references for teaching.

1. INTRODUCTION

As the requirements of the police for computer skills have increased significantly, it is necessary to lay a solid foundation in the training and education to enhance the fighting capacity of the police force from the root. Compared with the common undergraduate colleges, police colleges and universities specialized in cultivating police talents have strong professional characteristics in teaching process which have the features of both academic education and vocational education paying more attention to the combination of theory and practice. The aim of education in police colleges and universities is to train professionals who can systematically master the basic theories and skills to better engage in their work. The basic computer course is a compulsory subject, which is basic and universal. It includes the explanation of theoretical knowledge and the practical operation, especially the experimental operation combined with the emphasis and characteristics of the institutions themselves. As an auxiliary means, the virtual teaching system can not only improve the utilization efficiency of existing computer and perfect the safety management of experimental teaching, but also be helpful to cultivate the practical ability of students. Therefore, it is of positive significance to use virtual teaching system in computer teaching.

2. THE CURRENT SITUATION OF BASIC COMPUTER TEACHING IN POLICE COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES

2.1 Content of Courses

In most police colleges and universities, the basic computer courses is a general basic compulsory subject for all professional students to teach them computer knowledge and cultivate their operation ability and information literacy. At the same time, the pertinent experimental contents are added according to the professional characteristics of the police to lay a solid foundation for the solutions to the practical problems in the work by utilizing computer technology.

The content of the course covers a wide range, mainly including a brief history of computer development, the basic composition principles and maintenance of computer, the basic principles of system software and the installation of common operating systems, the use of office application software, computer network foundation, multimedia technology, information security, etc.

It can be divided into theoretical teaching and experimental teaching according to the different requirements. The former enables students to systematically master the professional knowledge, basic theories and methods, which is the premise for flexible application. Experimental teaching is to use experimental instruments and equipment to help students consolidate their skills according to experimental plans and objectives, which is able to improve their ability to analyze and solve problems.

The experiments related to the office software mainly depend on software configuration with low requirements on equipment, which can allow students to carry out practical operations. However, some experimental projects that need equipment support are generally unable to operate experiments. The reason may be that in the experiments such as the installation and configuration of operating system and the disk partition and formatting, if students do experiments directly on the hard disk of the laboratory computer, it may lead to data damage on the hard disk, and even paralyze the computer, affecting the development of experimental teaching process. Most of experiments are often demonstrated by teachers to avoid the damage to the experimental equipment affecting the normal teaching work, which leads to the lack of practical operation among students. However, as for the experimental operation, the education effect will be greatly affected if teaching is used instead of actual practice.

2.3 Analysis on the Investigation Results of Computer Skills of Police in Police Departments

With the popularization of computers and the development of network technology, the number of new types of computer network crimes is increasing, and the phenomenon of digitization and networking of crime forms is intensifying. It has become one of the focal points of the work to cultivate and improve the computer operation skills of police. At present, computer technology has become a routine means of public security work. However, it is found that most of police at the grassroots level relatively lack of the basic computer operation skills. The following is a statistical analysis of 126 policemen from 5 police stations in Yunyan District of Guiyang:

and above. The main reason is that highly educated and young policemen have more relevant experience to be trained. The computer education in police colleges and universities is an effective way to improve the police's skill level from the source.

3. THE ADVANTAGES OF VIRTUAL EXPERIMENTAL TEACHING SYSTEM

As a teaching-oriented virtual laboratory, the virtual experiment teaching system is a networked computer teaching system utilizing virtual technology to simulate actual experiments. According to the teaching needs and arrangements, it simulates the actual teaching through virtual technology, which largely meets the experimental needs in teaching.It can provide the complete practical training system and teaching management service, which can record experimental data completely, save process material and make scientific evaluation. It is also convenient for students to discover the deficiencies in the experiment process in time to improve learning efficiency.

In terms of teaching design, the virtual experiment platform can freely set up experimental projects based on the virtual content provided on the platform, that is, it can create various experimental scenes with the advantages of computer software, which is convenient to operate. The experiment will not affect the hard disk data and the operation of the host computer, so it is easier for students to master relevant knowledge by operating repeatedly.

4. THE APPLICATION OF VIRTUAL EXPERIMENT TEACHING SYSTEM IN THE BASIC COMPUTER COURSES IN POLICE COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES

The following is mainly to introduce the items with high requirements for experimental equipment.

4.1 The Experiment Project of Operating System

The installation of operating system is a skill that students should master in the basic computer courses. However, it is found that most of students do not have a good grasp of operating system and fail to complete the installation independently during the assessment. According to the investigation of the police department, this skill is relatively deficient which should be focus on by the police colleges and universities, which should be regarded as the bases for training talents.

In the experiment of the operating system, the system account can be operated and the security settings of its password and file system can be made after the installment. In addition, other exercises can be done such as the auditing of the Windows operating system and the security settings of logs. The practice of using data encryption software and security templates for security settings can also been realized. More importantly, the experiment can be operated repeatedly, thus consolidating the operation method of key nodes.

Meanwhile, different operating systems can be installed in the virtual experimental teaching system. In addition to the common windows system, Apple system and Linux system can also be installed. Through the installation and practice of different operating systems, it is conducive to improving the adaptability of students after work.

4.2 The Experiment Project of Computer System Maintenance

Compared with common electrical appliances, computer equipment is more prone to failure because of frequent data reading and modification operations. Therefore, it is of great importance to solve common problems. The maintenance of computer system has become one of the criteria to judge whether students are skilled in computer operation.

In the experiment of hard disk management, besides distinguishing the types of disks, the exercises of disk partition and file system mounting can be carried out to strengthen the related knowledge about the scope and number of main partitions, and the reasonable structure of expanded partitions.

4.3 Network Experiment Project

With the higher demand of network skills, the police department requires the police to understand the knowledge and networking foundation of the Internet and local area networks. Police colleges and universities serving as bases for the transportation of police talents should pay much attention to cultivate students' corresponding skills. The foundation of computer network involves knowledge in many disciplines, which is complex requiring strong operation ability. For example, in the experiment of building a local area network, it is necessary to guide students to build a network system model first, then connect several devices through direct connection and set up interfaces to realize the network construction. With the virtual experiment teaching system, it is possible to carry out exercises and experiments beyond the limitations of physical equipment. It not only greatly improves the students' operation ability, but also avoids the harm to the real computer network system caused by the simulated network attack in teaching. At the same time, it can reduce the equipment investment to the greatest extent and save expenses.

5. CONCLUSIONS

Cultivating well-educated practical talents is the vital way to promote the development of police colleges and universities. The teaching of basic computer courses should also be guided by this. In the teaching process, attention should be paid to improving students' practical ability. The virtual experimental teaching system can expand the teaching form so that students can complete relevant experiment contents through the browser client on the Internet to improve practical skills, thus achieving the teaching purpose. It can be extended to the teaching of other specialized courses such as electronics and computers to significantly improve the teaching effect.
