Manila, Philippines with a degree in Elementary
Education.

Worked at Multiple Intelligence International School
in Manila for 2 years as a resource and homeroom
teacher.

Taught English in Japan for 4 years.

Australia with a Bachelor of Teaching and
Bachelor of Arts (Humanities)

MORE INFORMATION
Morning: At 8:00, the students can come upstairs. They will need to do their morning routine (which we will practice this week). Once finished, they can
start working on their morning activity.
Textbooks: Students will have softcover books (Go Math, Reader’s Notebook,
and Spelling) which can be written on and a hardcover book (Journeys) which we will mostly keep in school and cannot be written on.
P.E.: All students must wear their P.E. uniform for P.E. class on Tuesdays. Swimming: Swimming drills for Term 1 will be held in the classroom.
Helmets: We will be having emergency drills throughout the year. Our
emergency exit is the stairwell to the right of the classroom. Please make sure to bring a helmet for your child.
MORE INFORMATION
Snacks: Healthy food = healthy mind and body = success! Please refrain from
including junk food, sweets, and sugary drinks in your child’s snack.
Birthday parties: Please wait for further announcements.
Class moms: Please send me an email (alano@tokyoymca.org) if you are able to
AGENDA BOOK & HOMEWORK
Students will write in their agenda EVERY DAY (homework, announcements) Please make sure to check and sign everyday. It’s also a great way to communicate with me and Ms. Saiga.
Homework will be given most days to continue independent practice.
1. READING: Students must read any English book for at least 15 minutes at
home.
2. MATH: Students will be asked to do the Practice and Homework pages on
their Go Math book (2 pages).
3. GOOGLE CLASSROOM: Students may be asked to complete tasks on Google
Classroom (for practice should there be a need to move to e-learning)
AR (Accelerated Reader)
Students will begin AR according to their Star Reading Test which will be done at the beginning of the school year.
AR Steps:
1. Read 2. Re-read
3. Make a summary
4. Draw Reading Tree Card 5. AR Quiz
6. Change book
TERM 1 Goal: 1 quiz per week How to move up:
AR Levels 0.1-2.9: Three 100%
scores on the AR Reading Quiz.
AR Levels 3.0 and up: Three 90%
or 100% scores on the AR Reading Quiz for books worth at least 1.0 AR point.
*A student will move down if they
fail (50% or below) on 3 quizzes at their AR Reading Level.

Letters from the office and any other documents will be sent home in your child’s Parent Folder. Please check this every night and return it in this folder with any signed documents.
CLASS DOJO
-Class Dojo is the
main form
of communication in Grade 1B.
-The app is available on on smartphones (iOs and Android) and can also
be used from a computer at
www.classdojo.com
.
-We will give each student their log-in code.
-We can instantly share messages, updates, and photos from class. It’s
the easiest way for you to see how your child is doing at school and to
get in touch with me.
-Class Dojo is updated regularly. Photos of students will be posted.
Please let us know if you are uncomfortable with this.

❏ Let me know if you’d like to volunteer to be a class mom!
❏ If you haven’t already: Log-in to Google Classroom and join all the
classes. Grade 1 will only have one classroom (Homeroom) for Language
Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Each co-curricular subject will have its own classroom. *New students: Please watch the tutorial video on the next slide.
❏ Download Class DoJo on your smartphone / access the website
(www.classdojo.com) on your computer. Create a Parent Account. The unique student code will be sent home on the 1st day of school. Please follow the instructions on the document.
