ABOUT US

WHO IS HAVEN POWER?

Since its inception, business electricity supply

company Haven Power has maintained its core

values: to provide good quality service at a

competitive price to all its business customers.

We supply businesses of all sizes, from small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to large industrial and commercial (I&C) customers, with electricity contracts that are simple, flexible and designed to their specific requirements.

Traditionally, small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) haven’t had the service they would like or expect from their electricity supplier. Instead of being treated like a business, they were often categorised as an I&C or domestic customer, resulting in a service which was not suitable for the needs of their business.

Haven Power was set up specifically to serve the specialist requirements of these customers, offering an alternative to multi-national suppliers. We have grown considerably in recent years, now employing over 350 staff and with a turnover in excess of £250million. The knowledge and expertise of the senior management team and our dedicated staff has played a key role in this success.

In early 2009, we were acquired by Drax, the

owner and operator of the largest, cleanest and

most efficient coal-fired power station in the UK.

Drax produces around seven percent of the UK’s

electricity needs and is investing heavily in its

biomass facilities.

Drax sells the majority of its power through the wholesale market; the remainder is sold through Haven Power. The output capacity of its six generators is 4,000 megawatts, making it nearly twice the size of the next largest power station in the UK.

By burning biomass in place of coal, Drax has already significantly reduced its carbon footprint. And, thanks to confirmation of government support for electricity generated from biomass, Drax is confident that it can transform into

a predominantly biomass-fuelled generator.

As well as being an important strategic asset nationally, Drax is also vital to the local economy, employing around 760 people and supporting many other local jobs indirectly.

With the financial backing of Drax, we have grown our SME business and also established an experienced team who specifically sell to and service the large I&C customer sector. Our customer base has expanded significantly since the Drax purchase and now includes some of the UK’s leading business names.

CONFIDENCE FROM

A SUBSTANTIAL

PARENT COMPANY

In 2012, Drax completed the largest steam

turbine modernisation in UK history, thereby

increasing its overall efficiency by almost 40

percent and reinforcing its position as the

most efficient coal-fired power station in the

UK. The upgrade of the three remaining

low-pressure turbines in one of its six generating

units brings to an end a project with Siemens

AG lasting five years and costing £100

million.

We aim to provide SME customers with

straightforward contracts, explained in a

clear way and backed by excellent standards

of customer service.

We have no anonymous call centres or interactive telephone systems, just British-based, proactive account teams. We provide all our customers with a named individual contact to ensure a personal, consistent service. Haven customers do not experience the frustrations of having to deal with a Call Centre because quite simply we don’t have one.

As a company of electricity experts, we are always striving to make energy purchasing simpler and more efficient by ensuring our processes and service, from procurement through to billing, are the very best they can be. We have a can-do culture designed to give the best possible service and we keep customers at the heart of everything we do.

FOR SME BUSINESSES

Our range of products has been specifically

designed to meet the needs and requirements of

an array of SME businesses. They have been

developed after consulting widely with our

customers and with energy consultants to

ensure we provide the options that customers

want and need.

Our knowledge of the industry means we are well-placed to help customers select the best possible products to match their energy needs. We continuously review and update our products to ensure they are simple yet tailored, and are up to date with changes in the energy industry.

We have products available for both Non-Half Hourly (NHH) and Half Hourly (HH) metered business premises.

In order to address the volatility of third party

charges we have developed Haven Assured,

a key product to help businesses maintain

budget certainty. With this product, there are

no surprises.

The main feature of the product is that the contract will be ‘fully fixed’. The energy cost and specified charges* will be fixed and will never increase throughout your

initial contract term with Haven Power.

Is this product right for my business?

This product will be ideal for any business wanting protection from future increases in the specified charges. Haven Assured customers won’t be affected if these charges increase.

Haven Assured is available to all SME businesses, with the option of taking a 12 to 36 month contract. Terms and Conditions are specific to this product and a number of payment options are available.

*Specified charges mentioned exclude any new taxes or levies and CCL and VAT increases. See previous page for more information on third party charges.

**With an annual energy consumption of up to 2GWh per site.

Our Haven Standard product mirrors what has

traditionally been offered by energy suppliers to

businesses customers. This product is aimed at

those businesses that want to reduce their energy

costs, but can accept a certain amount of risk.

This type of contract has a fixed energy cost with other specified charges based on current rates. With this product, we also build in an agreed threshold, meaning charges won’t be affected if increases in specified charges are within the set limit. Haven will monitor the level of these specified charges and contact customers if they increase by more than the agreed amount.

Is this product right for my business?

Haven Standard is perfect for customers who want the flexibility of a short- or long-term contract which can be anything from 12 to 60 months, and don’t want to be fully exposed to the unpredictability of third party charges.

We have developed this product with transparency in mind and businesses taking this option will benefit from never having to pay any more than the published price of these charges, along with a short or longer term fixed energy cost.

This product is only available to HH metered business premises, with the option of contracts between six and 60 months. T&Cs are specific to this product and different payment options are available.

OUR BENEFITS

Climate Change Levy (CCL) exempt option

We can offer most of our customers CCL exempt power, generated from biomass, at no extra cost compared to electricity we produce from other fuel sources.

See page 10 for more information.

Haven’s outstanding customer service

All of our customers have the contact details of a named customer service advisor who manages all aspects of their contract with us to ensure a personal, consistent service.

Get Smart

A Smart meter is a digital electricity meter that records energy consumption and communicates real-time meter readings to the energy supplier through the mobile phone network.

How does it benefit my business?

Smart metering provides accurate meter readings, solving the problem of infrequently-read meters and estimated bills. Bills are based on actual usage eliminating the risk of errors associated with manual reading.

Your meter will be automatically read every month (most business customers with conventional metering are read, at best, quarterly), ensuring that you only pay for what you use.

Once Smart metering is installed, you will no longer have the inconvenience of meter readers calling – especially important if your business has remotely located meters or you have special security measures in place.

We have two options for Smart metering both on a low-cost

basis for the customer:

• Installation package – a low-cost option for Smart meter installation designed for accurate readings and bills on an ongoing basis

• Control package – as well as accurate information on your statements and invoices, you can also choose to have access to the daily pattern of your electricity usage via the internet. With secure access through the Haven Power website, your recorded half-hourly usage is displayed in a clear pattern for each day enabling you to identify and address unnecessary usage in

your business.

08

(11)

*The Department of Business and Energy states that where Smart meters are installed, customers typically reduce their electricity use by 10 percent.

We can supply businesses with Climate Change

Levy (CCL) exempt electricity from a 100

percent renewable source, helping customers to

be more environmentally responsible. This

option has been designed specifically for those

customers who currently pay CCL and who are

committed to being more sustainable without

increasing their electricity costs.

What is the Climate Change Levy (CCL) tax?

CCL is a tax levied by the government on fuels used by businesses, including electricity. This cost is passed onto customers by their supplier as part of their electricity bills. Businesses can contribute to their Climate Change Levy (CCL) obligations by buying power generated from a renewable energy source which is accredited by a Levy Exemption Certificate (LEC).

Biomass power at no extra cost

Historically, power from renewable sources has usually been charged at a premium. Our parent company Drax is a leader in biomass generation. This gives us the opportunity to offer our customers CCL exempt power, generated from biomass, at no extra cost compared to electricity produced from traditional fuel sources.

What is biomass?

Put simply, biomass is a form of stored solar energy. It is organic, plant-based

material such as wood chips or pelletised straw and has been used as an energy source for many years to produce heat. Biomass is plentiful – it is the world’s fourth largest energy resource. It is renewable and is sustainable over its entire lifecycle to deliver significant carbon savings. Today the technology to generate electricity from biomass is well established.

In recent years Drax has pioneered the use of biomass in its generation, and currently operates a co-firing system where biomass is ground to a dust like the coal and fired together in the furnaces to produce steam from the boilers to produce electricity. Drax has well advanced plans to convert up to half of its generators to biomass.

Who is this available to?

Our renewable energy can be combined with every type of contract we supply from single sites to larger multi-site businesses.*

Every customer who chooses CCL exempt power through Haven is given a Biomass Generation Certificate. This confirms they have bought electricity generated from 100 percent renewable sources to power their premises.

*CCL exemption is not available for customers using less than 15,000 kWh per annum or with any other form of exemption in place.
