At the Lofoten Aquarium, you can learn about the Arctic Cod – what we call the "Skrei". The arctic cod wanders from the Barents sea to the waters of Lofoten every winter to spawn. The seasonal fisheries, the Lofoten fisheries, is based on fishing on the arctic cod. The arctic cod is one of the most important fish for the Europeans, through 100´s of years. The stock fish (dried cod) and salt fish from Lofoten is widely known for it´s

high quality. The Lofoten Aquarium also offers the chance to study other species of fish and shellfish that lives in the waters of Lofoten. More than 20 aquarium tanks caters for good learning and experiencing the fish. The Atlantic Ocean and the Barents Sea is literally filled with natural resources. Fisheries, aqua culture and oil- and gas production – it is all taking place in the oceans.

Learn more about this in the exhibition on co-existence. You can even see salmon breeding up close at the aquarium.

The aquarium offers photo

exhibitions, film and cafe with a view. Souvenirs for sale in the gift shop. In addition, you will find an otter pond and a seal pond. It is an absolute highlight to see the feeding of these gracious and fun sea mammals.
