PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES (4-8) vs. WASHINGTON NATIONALS (5-7)

Sunday, April 19, 2015 – Nationals Park – 1:35 p.m. EDT – Game 13; Road 7

RHP David Buchanan (0-2, 11.42) vs. RHP Stephen Strasburg (0-1, 6.75)

YESTERDAY’S ACTION: The Phillies snapped their 6-game losing streak with a 5-3 win over the

Nationals in Washington D.C. … Starter Aaron Harang (2-1) got the win after allowing 3 runs over 6.0 innings … Odubel Herrera was a sparkplug at the top of the lineup, going 3-for-4 with a double, RBI, two stolen bases and two runs scored … Freddy Galvis had 2 hits and 2 RBI … Ben Revere entered as a pinch runner in the 7th inning and made an impact by stealing 2nd base, moving to 3rd on a fly out and scoring on an infield groundout … Revere also doubled later in the game and scored … Jonathan Papelbon notched his 3rd save of the season, leaving him 3 shy of tying the Phillies record.

ROAD KILL: The Phillies end their first road trip of the season today … So far on this trip, the Phils have gone 1-5, having dropped the first 5 games before yesterday’s win … They have hit a combined .211 (42-199) with 8 2B, 3 3B, 4 HR, .272 OBP, .342 SLG % and 15 runs scored (2.5 R/G) … The pitching staff has posted a 4.78 ERA (26 ER, 49.0 IP) allowing opponents a .274 AVG (55-201) and 8 HR … The Phils finished last season going 3-8 in their final 11 road games.

LOOKING AHEAD: Following tomorrow’s day off, the Phillies have a 6-game homestand against Miami (3 G) and Atlanta (3 G), continuing their streak of 16 straight games against NL East teams … In the first 9 games of this streak the Phils are 3-6 … Overall, they are playing 25 of 29 straight games against the NL East.

‘BON FIRE: Jonathan Papelbon is 3-for-3 in save opportunities so far this season, giving him 109 in his Phillies career, leaving him 3 saves shy of Jose Mesa’s franchise record of 112 … Papelbon is already the Boston Red Sox’ all-time saves leader with 219 … With 328 career saves, Papelbon ranks 15th on MLB’s all-time list, needing one more to tie Francisco Cordero (329) for 14th place and 2 more to tie John Wetteland (330) for 13th place … Since joining the Phillies, Papelbon is 12-10 with a 2.39 ERA (54 ER, 203.1 IP) and 109 saves (124 SV OPP) and 216 SO/44 BB in 203.1 IP.

PHARM PRODUCE: Of the 25 players on the Phillies active roster, 13 of them were originally signed or drafted by the organization, including their entire starting infield … Infielders Cody Asche, Freddy Galvis, Cesar Hernandez, Ryan Howard and Chase Utley; catchers Carlos Ruiz and Cameron Rupp; outfielder Darin Ruf; and pitchers David Buchanan, Justin De Fratus, Jake Diekman, Ken Giles and Cole Hamels.

SUPPORT STAFF: Through 12 games, Philadelphia’s starting rotation has posted a combined record of 2-7 (.222)... It is the lowest winning percentage by a Phillies staff through the first 10 games of a season since the 1987 rotation went 0-7 through their first 12 games.

NATIONAL PRIDE: Despite their struggles, the Phillies have had the Nationals number recently, winning three of their last four series between the two clubs (8-4 overall record since 8/25/14) ... In those 12 games, Philadelphia has outscored Washington, 48-43, while Phillies pitchers have posted a 3.39 ERA (41 ER, 109.0 IP) ... Last year, Philadelphia went 10-9 (.526) versus Washington, marking their first winning season against the Nationals since 2010 (12-6) ... They were 8-11 vs WSH in 2013, 9-9 in 2012, and 8-10 in 2011 ... Nationals Park has been a tough spot to play for the Phillies over the last few years, however, as they’ve compiled a 1-6-1 record over their last seven series here (8-17 overall record since 10/1/12).

ROAD WOES: The Phillies have lost each of their first five road games to begin a season for the first time since 1988 when the club lost each of its first six road contests… Philadelphia has lost each of their last five series on the road and 10 of their last 13 ... Overall, they are 2-10-1 over their last 13 series on the road (13-26 overall road record since 7/18/14) ... Their only road series wins over that stretch came on the same trip from September 1-7, 2014 (2-1 at ATL, 2-1 at WSH) ... Last year, Philadelphia went 36-45 (.444) away from Citizens Bank Park, marking their second consecutive season with a losing road record ... In 2013, the Phillies went 30-51 on the road, ending a streak of nine straight seasons in which they posted a record above .500 away from home (2004-12).

IN LOVING MEMORY: The Phillies will wear a patch with the initials SLB on their uniforms for the 2015 season ... The patch will be worn as a tribute to Sara L “Sally” Buck, who passed away on August 23, 2014 ... Sally and her late husband Alexander K. “Whip” Buck became part of the Phillies ownership group in 1981 ... Sally and Whip were passionate fans and supporters of the Phillies ... Sally was seen frequently attending games with family members and friends up until her passing.
