imposition: This copy is defective as a result of the following imposition errors: (a) The recto of the Corno

Primo leaf repeats the verso, causing this part to lack the Introduzione through variation ; (b) The leaf conjugate to Corno Primo has Oboa Seconda (complete in one page) on both recto and verso; thus, Corno Secondo is absent. Doubtless the proper imposition would have placed the Oboa Seconda leaf (with blank verso) conjugate to Oboa Prima, and the Corno Secondo leaf (with blank verso) conjugate to Corno Primo. ————

1. Date: Ashdown & Parry acquired Wessel in 1860.

2. The music plates of 2-AP-1 are those of the first edition 2-W-1 (1833), but with numerous minor changes and corrections. The title page of 2-AP-1 is in the Complete Collection format, while the title page of 2-W-1 is in the format of Wessel’s series Album desPianistes de Première Force. On the title page of 2-AP-1 the imprint is changed from Wessel to Ashdown & Parry. In the caption title of 2-AP-1 the dedicatee is Woyciechowski, while in 2-W-1 it ɪs Charles Czerny. (Brown, p. 23, comments that the Czerny dedication was without authorization. There are also changes in the footlines and in the the music plates. 3. In an exhaustive study of the evolution of the Complete Collection title page, Grabwski (2001) identified a

total of 37 versions starting from its first appearance in 1840 and continuing through Wessel’s successor Ashdown & Parry. By means of the list of successive versions on p. 427 of the the Grabowski study, the title page of 2-AP-1 can be identified as version 15d, the last in which Ashdown & Parry retained the Wessel format of the Complete Collection title page.
