Taking Charge, Leading

Change: Your I&O

Transformation Can’t Wait

The infrastructure and operations (I&O) organization is on the

brink of a revolution fueled by the forces of

mobile, social, cloud

and information

technologies.

I&O leaders

stand at the center

of it all, challenged to ensure a stable enterprise infrastructure

while supporting the agility required to act on new business

opportunities

.

For many, the move toward an “Intelligent Data Center,” capable

of synthesizing an explosion of digital information, will enter the

strategic mix, positioning I&O as a key contributor to

business

value

and competitive advantage. Decision-makers will learn

effective new ways to capitalize the forces of IT change, and

proactively lead the way to fundamental I&O

transformation

.

The Data Center Summit 2013 will equip I&O leaders to navigate

the tightrope between data center

modernization

and

cost

optimization

, enabling you to design a data center architecture

that will sustain the uncertainties that lie ahead.

Andrew Butler

VP Distinguished Analyst,

Gartner

Karthik Cariappa

Senior Program Manager,

Gartner Events

GARTNER PREDICTS:

By YE2016,

60%

of new data

centers will be

40%

smaller, while

supporting

300%

more workload.

Who is attending?

Senior IT Leaders will be

attending the Data Center

Summit with roles equivalent

to Head/VP/Manager/Director/

Planner of:

• Data Center Management

• IT Operations

• IT Infrastructure

• Quality Management

• Service Management

• Communications/Networking

• Mobility Management

• Application Management

• Facilities Management

• Business Continuity and

Disaster Recovery

• Enterprise and IT Architecture

Discover how to:

• Ensure that your investment strategies are not driven by vendor

self-interests

• Defi ne, implement and police enterprise architectural standards

• Manage the ongoing investment — or migration — of legacy technology

• Enable personal choice without compromising data center security or

compliance

• Evaluate and control the position of private, public and hybrid cloud

• Manage big data before it manages you

• Balance emerging standards for interoperability with vendor desires

for account infl uence and control

(3)

TRACKS

A

Economics of the Future Data Center

Aging data center infrastructures and

energy cost increases

— coupled with a growing need

to be responsive to business demands — are forcing many organizations to rethink traditional

approaches to supporting the business. This track will focus on

data center governance

and

cost optimization

. It will look to address issues such as: how to

negotiate

with vendors;

the sustainable data center; whether cloud is the route to long-term data center savings;

maximizing the ROI from new investments; new cloud hosting models; fi nding the lowest

hanging fruit; migration and

consolidation strategies

.

B

Cloud-Enabled Data Center Landscape

Cloud, mobile, social and information are already having an

impact on I&O

and there are a

number of hot-button issues that are on everyone’s minds. This track will focus on how the

major vendor strategies that are driving — and being driven by — the nexus of forces (

mobility,

information, social and cloud

). It will look to address issues such as: is there a future for

traditional IT megavendors?; the risks of vendor partnerships; is there a role for physical

infrastructure in a

virtual world

?; cloud-based data center services; who will be the data

center giants of tomorrow; whether existing business models can survive, and when and where

to embrace emerging standards.

C

Business Impact of Mobility

I&O organizations can no longer postpone the creation of a

mobile enterprise strategy

that

addresses data leakage,

BYOD

, multiple device ownership, fi le sharing and synchronization,

safe data disposal, corporate app stores, app management and other mobility issues. With

an effective strategy, I&O leaders can avoid making disjointed, tactical decisions that cause

unnecessary and expensive complexity. Such a strategy can ensure that the end result

satisfi es user experience demands. This track will focus on how to deal with the effects of

consumerization

; addressing issues such as: is the PC still relevant?; the role of the personal

cloud; should you adopt a BYOD policy and mobile security solutions at the network edge.

D

Maintaining the Data Center Mission

The rise in demand for

storage

is unabated, as growth rates remain high — with the majority

of the growth being “unstructured.” As such, management and effective

cost optimization

become both paramount in importance and exceedingly diffi cult. New technologies

and architectures are emerging, and some may enable profound change to the storage

infrastructure in the coming years. This track will focus on the

infi nite data center

; back-up

and recovery in a cloud enabled world; matching the right level of resilience to the needs of the

workload and the real meaning of

big data

.

E

Driving the technology Revolution

The

server market

is mature, but with continued technology innovation, there is a lot of

dynamism under the surface, as well as ongoing shifts in competitive dynamics. The server’s

incarnation as a fi xed and fi nite object at a particular place in the universe will no longer be

a suffi cient paradigm to manage the fast-changing IT environment. On one hand, vendors

are promoting integrated systems, yet at the other end of the market, we see developments

such as

low-energy

servers. This track will focus on

innovation

in server, storage and

network technologies; aggregation and dis-aggregation of infrastructure and the impact of new

workloads on technology selection.

Gartner Opening Keynote:

The Intelligent Data Center

— What Will Unfold Over the Next Five Years

The Data Center’s role within the enterprise is evolving rapidly.

The future Data Center will be critical for enterprise agility and

the benchmark of IT effi ciency. I&O leaders will need to take

advantage of new opportunities in mobile, massive data, cloud

services and innovative technologies, designs and operational

on various IT investments, with

a focus on astute negotiations, minimizing the associated risks

and leveraging

vendor relationships

. The summit will address

issues regarding: What vendors do you consider or

choose

for what reason? How should IT evaluate vendors’ promises?

Which vendors will play leading roles in I&O? etc.
