Major Tommy Taylor recently spend time inspecting all three jail facilities in meticulous detail. Here he is at

the Marathon jail, which received his award for excellence in appearance and operations.

Traffic Deputy David Fernandez was recently recognized by FDOT as our agency’s top producer during the 2013 CIOT Challenge. He

received an award at the Homestead Speedway. His compatriots in the unit attended to

congratulate him and to receive their own recognition for

being first in the

state. They are all pictured here at

the speedway’s

Victory Lane. Below, Sheriff Rick “Petty” Ramsay takes a victory lap at the speedway in his unmarked charger.

Members of the Sheriff’s Office attended a child

safety seat technician class recently. Attending the

class were Deputies Dave Stark, Thomas Hill and Sgt. Mike DiGiovanni. The photo was taken

at a public event held as part of the class,

where participants got hands on experience inspecting and installing car seats. Andrew Hudson was on hand at the event to help

show off the Bomb Squad robot. The Florida

Keys healthy Start Coalition sponsored the class.

The Bureau of Corrections was out again recently picking up trash from the

Thank you to everyone that

participated!

From Event Coordinator Jo Socha

Without your help we could not have raised over $2,000. It took everyone who served, was served, and got the word out to make this such a successful event. You are the heroes for our Special Olympics Athletes.

Tip-A-Cop is just one of many fund raising events for Special Olympics. The Law Enforce-ment Torch Run helps Special Olympics Florida put on the state summer games. Law Enforcement agencies raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics by carrying the Flame Of Hope in honor of Special Olympics athletes from county to county and coast to coast.

The Special Olympic athletes are counting on you; our Law En-forcement men and women to get them to the games by participating in all the Special Olym-pics fund raisers in Monroe County.

The Tip-a-Cop fund raiser held at Boondocks recently raised over $2,000 for Monroe County

Special Olympics. The second annual event, organized by the Sheriff’s Office own Jo Socha,

was fun for everyone. See pictures on page. Left

to right, Jo Socha, Sheriff Ramsay, Scott Hart,

Maria Pierce and Pat Hart.

organizer Jo Socha.

Some of those who turned out for the event,

including Deputy Dave Lariz (below) just

returned from a stint in Afghanistan.

Great turnout for the event which raised over $2,000 for Monroe County Special Olympics.

Victim Advocate Carol Albury Johnson of the Major Crimes Unit organized a huge clean up of Bicycle Joanie’s yard in Marathon this past Saturday. She is sick and having trouble caring for herself, much less her yard and home. Zonta and Rotary clubs of Marathon joined forces as well as Sheriff’s Office employees and DOT Palm Landscaping.

The Sheriff’s Office Dive Team spent time at Crocker

Reef, a popular fishing site off of Islamorada, removing a considerable amount of fishing line and related debris from the coral. They then went to the sandbar at Whale Harbor Channel, filling several garbage bags with bottles, cans, and
