From Event Coordinator Jo Socha
Without your help we could not have raised over $2,000. It took everyone who served, was served, and got the word out to make this such a successful event. You are the heroes for our Special Olympics Athletes.
Tip-A-Cop is just one of many fund raising events for Special Olympics. The Law Enforce-ment Torch Run helps Special Olympics Florida put on the state summer games. Law Enforcement agencies raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics by carrying the Flame Of Hope in honor of Special Olympics athletes from county to county and coast to coast.
The Special Olympic athletes are counting on you; our Law En-forcement men and women to get them to the games by participating in all the Special Olym-pics fund raisers in Monroe County.
The Tip-a-Cop fund raiser held at Boondocks recently raised over $2,000 for Monroe County
Special Olympics. The second annual event, organized by the Sheriff’s Office own Jo Socha,
was fun for everyone. See pictures on page. Left

Maria Pierce and Pat Hart.

Some of those who turned out for the event,
including Deputy Dave Lariz (below) just
returned from a stint in Afghanistan.
Great turnout for the event which raised over $2,000 for Monroe County Special Olympics.
Victim Advocate Carol Albury Johnson of the Major Crimes Unit organized a huge clean up of Bicycle Joanie’s yard in Marathon this past Saturday. She is sick and having trouble caring for herself, much less her yard and home. Zonta and Rotary clubs of Marathon joined forces as well as Sheriff’s Office employees and DOT Palm Landscaping.
The Sheriff’s Office Dive Team spent time at Crocker
Reef, a popular fishing site off of Islamorada, removing a considerable amount of fishing line and related debris from the coral. They then went to the sandbar at Whale Harbor Channel, filling several garbage bags with bottles, cans, and
