Extruder Technology
Top class Wearing PartsIt’s the art of right handling and conveying of different masses. Material is being pro-cessed to be finally formed or dressed and modified for further treatment.
All these ways of conditioning have one thing in common: whereever masses and machine come together is where the most wearing occurs.
Since 1876, C.A.PICARD use all their knowledge about metals. For decades, we have been well-established as one of the world‘s leading manufacturers of wear-ing parts for specialised industries. Our highly-skilled employees and state-of-the-art machining procedures stand for precise and highly wear-resistant parts and equipment.

Segments
In many areas, extruder production nowa-days is modular. Due to this, it is possible to adjust the screw configuration ideally and to replace renewable segments at reasonable price. The screw segments are mounted on a supporting shaft and perform different tasks during the manufacturing process.
It is our goal to improve performance, e. g. increase of retraction and conveyance or cutback of top-level temperature or shear stress.
More than 15.000 elements can be supplied ex stock.

Shafts
They transfer the torque of drive to the screw segments and thus into the whole area of process. Apart from offering the maximum torque drive, it is our aim to achieve the maximum mechanical durability. Using modern material engineering, we achieve resistance that enables you to take your twin screw extruder to the limits.
Screw Dismantling Service
You may have to make an effort to strip the segments off the shaft after production time. Residuals of products might stick between the segment and shaft and have solidified. It may be necessary to use high force to remove the elements off the shaft. For this task, we offer our screw dismantling service. As soon as your screw shaft arrives in our plant, we note the configuration, strip off the elements hydraulically, clean them and check their wear condition. Depend-ing on your requirements, we re-assemble the screws with necessary replacement parts, either with identical or modified configuration.

Barrels and Liners
As the barrel and the cylinder must resist extreme friction and have different other tasks to perform in the process, they are particularly high-value parts of a twin screw extruder. They can either be used for feeding or degas-sing. Quite often, the barrel is equipped with a temperature control system. Sometimes the corrosive and abrasive effects on this extreme-ly valuable parts make it necessary to equip the barrel with a liner which can be replaced as soon as the wearing limits are exceeded. Thus it is possible to replace only the liner and the valuable external body can be kept in use.

Maintenance and Repair
Barrels are complex and expensive parts. Once they are worn, they don’t necessarily have to be scrapped and in many cases it is an extremely cost-effective solution to get them repaired. In case you have a lined barrel, we’ll check the barrel and refurbish it if necessary. After remov-ing the old liner and fittremov-ing the new one, the barrel is technically as good as new and ready for use.
If the barrel is not equipped with a liner, we’ll check if we can fit a liner which is quite often possible for various types of barrels. In future, it will be possible to simply exchange the liner.
Wear Measurement
Early detection of wear ensures your productivity. The C.A.PICARD barrel measuring system checks your barrel’s condition directly at your extruder. The expenditure of time is reduced to a minimum while there is a maximum benefit since the barrels don’t need to be removed. Our maintenance makes sure your machines run smoothly, possible deviations are detected early, you can order spare parts in time and thus make repairs easy to schedule and to calcu-late. The measures are taken at room temperature. For preparation all you need to do is to strip the screw shafts and to clean the barrels. At a fixed price we offer: measurement and analysis via computer interface by our C.A.PICARD service with measuring system including documentation of the results. We also offer measuring your screw elements wearing. For following twin screw extruders

Twin shaft extruders for powder coating
The main reasons for some industries diversifying from liquid to powder coating are profit-ability and environmental aspects. The powder coating method is currently being used in the automotive industry, metal coating, production of domestic appliances, for furniture and many other branches of industry.
As a specialist in processing of extrusion the C.A.Picard Extrusion Technology S.r.l. in Cusago near Milan/Italy is our Group’s centre of excellence for development, delivery and service of powder coating plants.
Taking advantage of their long-time experience which is well-known in the trade, the Development and Sales Team designs production- and laboratory extruders for world-wide use which meet all requirements to homogeneous and accurately repeatable lacquer quality. The melt is being solidified and rolled out by attached cooling belts exactly according to the customer’s requirements concerning logistic and cooling efficiency.
