LECTORS NEEDED – Lectors are those who are committed to the ministry of the Word of God. Through prayerful proclamation, Lectors embody the Sacred Word in a very special way. God’s Word is alive and active, and the presence of Christ radiates from its proclamation at the liturgy. Thus, the Lector is entrusted with the awesome task of being the “proclaimer” amidst the assembly. If you feel called to this ministry, contact Deacon Phil Myers at (937) 492-1970. There are currently two 9:00 a.m. Mass slots that need filled. Thank you for your prayerful consideration.

THE SOURCE AND SUMMIT This weekend at Holy Angels, thirty-seven of our second graders will receive their First Holy Communion. Pray for them to be open to the abundant graces the Lord wants to give them in the gift of His Body and Blood. We should also take stock of this gift ourselves. What a wonderful thing it is for us to receive Him Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the Eucharist. We should ask ourselves, “How can I make my reception of Holy Communion most spiritually fruitful?” The first part is to ensure that no grave sin is on our soul when we receive Holy Communion, so go to Confession as quickly as possible! Pray a prayer of preparation to receive our Lord. These can be found in the “Lift Up Your Hearts” booklets in the pews with the hymnals. Then, practice a thanksgiving after Mass for the gift of our Lord truly Present in the Blessed Sacrament! The Lord wants to give us so much in a little white host. He wants to give us His very Life!

I want to give you all a heads up that next year the Holy Angels Grade School will be starting fifteen minutes earlier at 8:15 a.m. To adjust to this change, the All School Mass following this school year (‘20-’21 school year) will begin at 8:30 a.m. Also, to avoid changing the Mass schedule every time we do not have school on Fridays, starting on Friday, May 28th we will begin having Friday Mass at 8:30 a.m. year-round. This is to make life easier on everyone and means we only have to communicate changes to the schedule when something changes at the school. It is good for us to look at the Mass schedule and evaluate whether it serves the entire parish well or not. Change is a part of life and parish life is no different. We need to change if we are to grow. Thank you for your understanding in this matter. I am constantly humbled by how well everyone at Holy Angels joyfully and energetically responds to change and transition. I am very blessed as your pastor.

Altar Server training will take place Wednesday, May 12 at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, May 13 at 10:00 a.m., and Friday, May 14 at 10:00 a.m. We will be lowering the age required to serve from those who graduated from 5th grade to those who have received their First Holy Communion.

This change is meant to widen our current pool of servers. Fr. Hess and I both started serving soon after our First Communion and we both have attributed part of our priestly vocations to starting to serve at such an early age. I understand that those children who attend public school cannot make the above training dates. Thus, we will have another opportunity in June for those who miss this training.

Next Sunday, May 2 at the 12:00 Noon Mass we will have May Crowning.

I would especially encourage our First Communion parents to bring your children to this Mass and encourage them to consecrate themselves to our Lady’s care. May is a month dedicated to Mary, so I would also encourage families to find some way to make May a special month for our Blessed Mother. Maybe by praying a weekly Rosary, by putting fresh flowers next to an image of our Lady in your home on a regular basis, or even finding an image of our Lady to put up in your home if you do not already have one.

I want to thank all of the parents in our parish. I often say it is the parents who are the ones that pass the Faith onto their children. Priests and parish staff are support staff. I encourage you and will help you all to carry out your vocation as parents to get your children to heaven.

Peace in Christ,

Fr. Jarred Kohn

MISCARRIAGE SUPPORT

Practical and spiritual support for Catholics who have lost a child to miscarriage.

www.catholicmiscarriagesupport.com

“Welcome to Catholic Miscarriage Support. If you have found this webpage, chances are that you have had a miscarriage or are in the midst of one. We are so, so sorry for the loss of your child.

It breaks our hearts that anyone would need this information, but we know that in reality, many parents are experiencing this pain every day and have many questions about what the Catholic Church teaches and what to do next. We hope we can help you find some answers.”

“You formed my inmost being; You knit me in my mother’s womb. I praise You, because I am wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works! My very self You know. My bones are not hidden from You. When I was being made in secret, fashioned in the depths of the earth, Your eyes saw me unformed; in Your book all are written down; my days were shaped, before one came to be.”

– Psalm 139:13-16 Please visit the display table at the back of church for helpful resources.
