Temperature Control have been involved in providing specialist services to data centres for over 20 years, starting from providing specialist close control cooling to full Turnkey M&E projects. The majority of our experience has been gained in a close working partnership with British Telecom and part of their 21st Century Network Upgrade (21CN).

This experience has enabled us to offer design and build solutions to many clients as well as continuing our relationship with BT.

Building 30 – Full replacement of all M&E services to a live data centre. Scaffold decking was installed at high level to protect the data centre and temporary cooling utilised to maintain critical operation throughout the refurbishment.

Building 180 – installation of new CRAC systems and chillers to data centre. Existing chillers were retained in N+1 operation and BMS package provided to allow automatic operation to all items of plant.

Project Description

Removal of R22 refrigerant in 11 No CRAC units in critical live data centre. We introduced a new ISCEON MO99, R22 refrigerant replacement to BT and conducted the first live trails of MO99 in this application in Europe. Working closely with DuPont, the refrigerant

manufacturers, the equipment was fully tested before and after the conversion and the results showed conclusive proof of a successful conversion. Once satisfied BT released 10 No CRAC systems all completed in a 3 week window without any downtime of the data centre. The trial was showcased at the Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Show at the Birmingham NEC (March 2012) and will be used as a test case to encourage use throughout the industry.

Project Description

Installation and commissioning of 3 No 85kW Airedale Free Cool Chillers to serve the APC InRow Rack Cooling Solution, with Airedale Down Flow units securing the UPS room, specialist underfloor leak detection and fault alarm panel interface system.

During load test at 11DC ambient system achieved, a PUE of 1.2 based (241kW room load, 45kW energy input). Date of Project

Project Description

Strip out and replacement of 2 No 100kW chillers serving Data suite. Data suite remained operational at all times and chilled water circuits were modified whilst

maintaining water flow.

Each chiller was replaced individually, tested and commissioned before removal of the other. Equipment was configured into run and standby.

Project Description

Installation and commissioning of 3 No 80kW Aquasnap Liquid Chillers to serve the APC InRow Cooling Solution and Airedale chilled water down flow units. Along with a specialist underfloor water leak detection system and fault alarm panel interface system.

Pipework method used was George Fischer COOL-FIT pre-insulated ABS.

Supply and installation of Eaton Williams rear door rack cooling systems to high density blade server cabinets. The specialist cooling systems used free cooling chilled water to provide temperature neutrality across the servers and provide a low energy cooling solution to High Density 30kW Racks.

The energy savings achieved from these systems was 39% less than a traditional chilled water system with pay backs of the additional costs achieved within 8 months. Date of Project
