The group started the first unit in 1977 in the name of m/s spot king knitwears with the manufacturing of hosiery knitwear ready made garments. in the year 2005 the group started dedicated unit of fancy yarn in the name of ''sobhagia clothing co. at village jharmajri, baddi (hp) with the capacity of 8 mt/day. The group is aiming at serving the society and to promote education in fashion, designing & technology , started in 2005 ''sport king''s institute of fashion technology 178, col. Gurdial Singh road, civil lines, Ludhiana.

Infrastructure
The group further expanded garment business in 1987 by floating a new company under the name of Classic Wears Pvt. Ltd. at Noida later on shifted to Village Meharban, Rahon Road, Ludhiana. In the year 1992-93 the group diversified its activities in spinning sector by installing 7000 spindles at Village Meharban, Rahon Road, Ludhiana under the name of Sportking India Ltd, a company incorporated in 1988-89. The group set up another spinning unit M/s Sportking Synthetic in 1995 at Village Kanech, near Sahnewal, G.T.Road, Ludhiana with 12000 spindles and further expanded in 1998, 2005 and 2006. Today''s Capacity of this unit is appox. 65000 spindles. The group entered into the retail garment business in 1999 by setting up a new company with additional manufacturing capacity of 10000 pcs/day and by opening retail outlets under the name of Sobhagia Sales Pvt. Ltd. at Sahni, Near Sahnewal, G.T.Road, Ludhiana. Now group''''s garments capacity is 15000 pcs/day and company is having 30 retail outlets in north India. The group has two dyeing units, one in the name of "M/s Sportking Processor" established in 2000 at Village Barmalipur, Near Doraha, G.T.Road, Ludhiana. With Capacity of 10 MT/DAY of yarn/fiber and another is fabric dyeing unit M/s Marvel Dyeing & Finishing Pvt. Ltd. Established in 1986 at Village Meharban, Rahon Road, Ludhiana with the Capacity of 10MT/DAY.

Yarn manufacturing is the major activity of the group and Sportking is equipped with latest State of Art machineries. Sportking is producing wide range of cotton, synthetic, blended yarn in grey & dyed both. The group product is well known in the domestic market for its quality, consistency and
recognized. Sportking is also having edge in making different fancy yarn for other application like Crochet (feather) yarn, Chennile yarn.
Fabrics
Taking a step towards total forward integration to its yarn business sportking group has also set up a state-of-the-art fabric knitting section having a total capacity to knit about 2000 kgs of Plain as well as Auto stripper cloth in different knit structures using various kinds of yarns in different blends. The main knit structures being pique, single jersey, waffle, interlock, three thread fleece, polar fleece etc.
Garments
The cloth knitted is almost entirely used in house for the production of the knitted garments for gents, ladies and kids. In addition to the knitted garments sportking also manufactures garments from woven cloth for all the categories. The garments stitched are marketed under the brand name ‘MENTOR’, ‘SPORTKING’ & ‘SUBLIME’.
On the export front Sportking has supplied garments to various renowned brands like Hagger, Pierre Cardin, J.C. Penny, Lyle & Scott, George etc.
Retailing
Sportking has reached to its consumers directly by setting up retail outlets all across the India. The first retail outlet was set up in 1999 at Ludhiana. Today, the company has 32 showrooms providing complete family range in garments. Sportking has complete chain right from manufacturing of yarn to dyeing to fabrics to garments. With this the company is able to provide best quality in latest designs with in very reasonable prices.

Sportking plans major expansion
Embarking upon a major expansion plan, Ludhiana-based Sportking Group has decided to invest Rs 130 crore for enhancing its spindle & dyeing capacities and setting up a 15 MW power generation plant.
"We will invest Rs 80 crore on enhancing our spindling and dyeing capacity while Rs 50 crore will be invested on setting up a power generation plant. The investment process is expected to complete by June 2006," Sportking Managing Director Munish Avasthi told the agency.
The company has plans to install 35,000 spindles with stipulated investments which will take the company's total spindle capacity to 81,000.
With the proposed investment, the company plans to double its in-house dyeing capacity.
