Patients Know Best is accessible via any web enabled device whether that be a Laptop, Smartphone or a Kindle, as long as the device has a web browser, Patients Know Best can be accessed.

How to access the Patients PKB Record

Login to Patients Know Best by going to this website.

Once logged into Patients Know Best you will be taken to the Homepage, from here enter the patients demographic details (this can be either their NHS Number or you can search via Full name and DOB).

Note - If you have less than 50 patients under your team, you can simply click Go and find the patient from there.

Once you have the correct patient, to access their PKB record just click on the Patient's name and this will take you to their PKB Summary page, which from here you are now in the Patient's record and you can enter data.

Note - Highlighted in the screenshot above, you can always tell if you are in the correct record via the Demographics box at the top of the page.

How to send a message to Aspley Medical Centre

There are multiple ways to which you can send a message to Aspley Medical Centre, below are steps on how to send a message to the Practice.

Login to Patients Know Best as a Professional, from the homepage follow the previous steps and search for the Patient.

After clicking on the above, you will be taken to another page which you will be able to send a message to Aspley.

● Select Aspley Medical Centre as the recipient ● Enter the Subject

● Enter the message

● Optional (can also attach a file to send over to the Practice) ● Privacy will be defaulted to general health which is correct.

Once complete you will be notified that the message has been sent and Aspley will receive an email to notify them of a new message from Beechdale.

If the Practice responds, you will receive an email notification to let you know that the Practice has responded.

Unread messages will display with a white background and a green box as highlighted below.

Read messages will be greyed out as highlighted below.

The number of messages within a thread are displayed to the right, for example the read message below has 3 messages.

Note - you can also send a message to the Practice from this page by clicking on Send Message, this will take you to the patient search.

To respond back to a message, click on the message from the Practice which will take you to the message thread of that Patient.

Alternatively to the above, If you are already in a Patient's PKB record, you can click on

After clicking on the above, you can then select send a message.

Additionally you can also select a data point (Allergy entered by the care home) for example, and click on discuss selections.

How to record a Patient's Symptoms

To record Symptoms for a Patient at the care home, go to the Patients PKB Record by following the above steps.

Login to PKB as a Professional → Search for the Patient → Click on the Patient's Name → PKB Summary Page

Once you click on the Add Symptoms button, you can then record the Patient's Symptoms from here.

How to record a Patient's Measurements

To record Measurements for a Patient at the care home, go to the Patients PKB Record by following the above steps.

Login to PKB as a Professional → Search for the Patient → Click on the Patient's Name → PKB Summary Page

From the Summary Page, click on the Health tab and then click on Measurements, then click on Add Measurements.

Enter the Patients Measurement and then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on save.

Note - There is an option to also backtrack on when the measurement was record “Measurement time”

Once the measurement is recorded, if you need to record the same measurement again you can click on that measurement.

This will take you to an additional page, from here you can select a measurement and

To record the same measurement, click on Add measurements on the above page.

How to start a care plan

To start a care plan for a Patient at the care home, go to the Patients PKB Record by following the below quick steps.

Login to PKB as a Professional → Search for the Patient → Click on the Patient's Name → PKB Summary Page

From the Summary Page, click on the Treatments tab and then click on Plans, then click on Add Plan.

Note - There are currently no Care plans for the initial go live, once a care plan has been created, there will be separate guidance for care plans.

How to upload a file

To upload a file (scanned document for example) for a Patient at the care home, go to the Patients PKB Record by following the below quick steps.

Login to PKB as a Professional → Search for the Patient → Click on the Patient's Name → PKB Summary Page

After adding the file, you can then discuss that file with the Practice (Select and then discuss selections), view or edit and if needed you can delete the file also.

How to reset a Professionals password (Care staff)

Login to Patients Know Best by going to this website.

You will be taken to the reset password page, once you have confirmed the details click on

Start Password Reset, the care staff will then receive an email to reset their password.

How to deactivate a Professional

If a member of the care staff no longer needs access to PKB you can deactivate their PKB account.

How to add a Professional

To add an additional Professional to the Beechdale Care Home team on PKB, go to the

Professionals tab and select invite Professional.

Enter the care staff details on the below page, once entered click on invite, the Care staff member will receive an email to register with PKB.

Note - If they have not received an email make sure to check SPAM, you can always send a reminder email also.
