Sung Mass Parts are taken from “Mass of Christ our Savior” by Dan Schutte Introductory Rites

Entrance Hymn – All Are Welcome – Haugen

Let us build a house where love can dwell and all can safely live, a place

where saints and children tell how hearts learn to forgive. Built of hopes and dreams hopes and dreams and visions. Rock of faith and vault of grace; Here the love of Christ shall end divisions:

Refrain –

All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place! Let us build a house where all are named, Their songs and visions heard and loved and treasured taught and claimed as words within the Word. Built of tears and cries and laughter, Prayers of Faith and songs of grace, Let this house proclaim from floor to rafter.

Refrain.

Preparation Hymn – America the Beautiful –

Materna

O beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain, For purple

mountain majesties above the fruited plain. America, America! God shed His grace on thee, and crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea.

O beautiful for pilgrim feet, whose stern, impassioned stress, a thoroughfare for freedom beat across the wilderness! America, America! God mend thy ev’ry flaw, Confirm thy soul in self control, Thy liberty in law.

O beautiful for heroes proved in liberating strife, Who more than self their country loved, and mercy more than life! America, America! May God thy gold refine, Till all success be nobleness, and ev’ry gain divine.

F.Y.I. 14th Sunday of Ordinary Time-July 4th, 2021

Today, Americans celebrate the 245th anniversary of the signing of the

Declaration of Independence.

Those men who signed that Document literally put their necks on the line by confronting Great Britain over injustice and inequality that was perpetrated throughout the 13 Original Colonies. The struggle for Independence was hard-fought and came at a great price, yet it was achieved. In many quarters, the fight for Independence continues to this day, whether it be in the material world or the spiritual.

In the spiritual world we are waging war against Satan and his minions. As in the material world we are called to be alert against enemies, both foreign and domestic, even more so in the spiritual world. Satan’s greatest advantages are through ignorance and indifference and have always been. Some people might say ‘ignorance is bliss’. I would like to remind people that ignorance can also be fatal. In the spiritual realm ignorance of God’s law and love is called sin. Sin is not dependent on an opinion poll or a majority vote.

Sin can bring death to the soul. In today’s first Reading, the prophet Ezekiel is sent to the people of Israel because they had so strayed from the Covenant, they were in danger of annihilation. God does not want anyone to be annihilated. Satan however does and uses every trick in his book to bring about the downfall of humanity. Satan will try and convince us there is no sin, no God, nor laws or rules, and we can do anything we want. These have even infiltrated our society and church. For many people, there is no Immutable Truth, only relativity. This has so become a part of the landscape of the present day that when the Truth is proclaimed, it is vilified and repudiated.

A recent opinion poll was conducted in respect to the Eucharist. I would like to remind all that

for us, Catholics, The Eucharist is the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ. At Mass, when the priest pronounces the words of Consecration over the bread and wine, it becomes the Body and Blood of the Lord. This doctrine is called transubstantiation. It is an article of our Catholic Faith. Yet, when this poll was conducted close to 70% of Catholics stated that they do not believe that. I was horrified and deeply grieved and fearful for many.

When one comes to Communion, there are certain guidelines that should be understood before approaching the Eucharist.

• The Faith of the Person receiving is the same as what the Church teaches.

• The person is not aware of any grave or mortal sins present on the soul.

• In case of mortal sin, the Sacrament of Reconciliation is necessary before the reception of the

Eucharist.

• The person has fasted for one hour prior to the reception of the Eucharist.

• The “Amen” following the presentation of the Eucharist as “The Body of Christ” is seen as an

affirmation of Faith.

• The reception of the Eucharist either on the hand or the tongue is to be done reverently.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus journeys to his town of Nazareth. Throughout His ministry He meets people who are filled with Faith. Faith so strong it can literally move mountains. Yet, when He comes home, He is met with doubt and suspicion. As the Gospel relates, He is crushed by their lack of Faith.

May our Faith soar like eagles. May we never yield to Satan’s attack against our liberty and our holiness. But may all of us be vigilant and alert.

July 4th: Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

"Our work assisting and advocating on behalf of migrants and refugees stems from the core Christian belief that every person is created in God’s image and must be valued, protected, and respected for the inherent dignity he or she possesses. We embrace the teachings of the Gospel as we advocate to address the root causes of migration, while simultaneously protecting those forced to migrate and ensuring the humane treatment of those migrants already living in the United States." Bishop Mario E. Dorsonville, Auxiliary Bishop of Washington and chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Committee on Migration; written testimony on H.R.6, American Dream and Promise Act of 2021.
