Admission Procedures: Degree-Seeking Students

Educational Specialist Students

Qualifications:

 A Master of Science in Education (or related degree) or a Master of Educational Administration degree from

an accredited college or university (a Master of Educational Administration is required for pursuit of the

Superintendent track).

 Cumulative grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale. (Applicants with a GPA between 3.0 and 3.24 who

meet all other admission requirements may be admitted on probation with the approval of the Graduate

Affairs Council.)

 Graduate Application

 $35 non-refundable application fee

 Business Office Master Promissory Note

 Official transcripts from all previously attended colleges, universities, and post secondary institutions which

hold regional accreditation (this includes any courses posted as transfer credit from other institutions).

Only transcripts mailed directly to Missouri Baptist University Graduate Admissions will be accepted as

official copies. Hand carried transcripts and transcripts stamped “Issued to Student” may not be accepted as

official. Students graduating from Missouri Baptist University’s masters’ or specialist programs do not need

to resubmit transcripts that are already on file.

the question, “What will I contribute to the counseling profession?”)

* MAC students must submit a current background check. This must be a national background check.

Background check results must be sent directly from the institution performing check to the Director of Public

Safety, Missouri Baptist University, One College Park Drive, St. Louis, MO 63141. (See Graduate Bulletin for

additional information).

** MEA applicants must provide proof of Teacher Certification. Students seeking add-on certifications

must apply as Graduate Certification Only students, however, they are still required

to fulfill the admission requirements for degree-seeking students if they will be seeking financial aid.

***MSCJ applicants must have an earned bachelor’s degree in the Criminal Justice field. For students

wishing to pursue this degree without a Criminal Justice major, prerequisite courses are required.

MSSMGT, MSFMGT Students

Qualifications:

 A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

 Cumulative grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale. (Applicants with a GPA between 2.5 and 2.74 who

meet all other admission requirements may be admitted on probation with the approval of the Graduate

Affairs Council.)

Note: Students applying for the Master of Science in Sport Management who do not meet minimum grade point

average requirements have the option of taking the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Graduate

Management Admissions Test (GMAT). The following stipulations apply:

• A minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale in the last sixty (60) units attempted

• A minimum GRE score of 750 (verbal plus quantitative)

• A minimum GMAT score of 500 (verbal plus quantitative)

• A minimum GRE formula score of 1700 (GPA*GRE)

• A minimum GMAT formula score of 1500 (GPA * [200+GMAT])

professional plans you have for using your degree or certification when you have completed your course of

study.

Non-Degree-Seeking Students

Qualifications:

 Students wishing to take classes of interest only

 A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

 A photocopy of your PCI Teaching Certificate or an official transcript, from an accredited college or

university, showing a bachelor’s degree (or master’s degree, if applicable)

 Statement of Release of Information

NOTE: A non-degree-seeking student may take classes of interest; however, those classes

will not result in the awarding of a master’s degree. Some of the classes taken MAY count

toward elective credit if the student chooses to pursue a master’s degree at a later time. If a student does

decide to pursue a master’s degree, all materials listed above in the degree-seeking section will be

required for acceptance into the program .

NOTE: Non-degree-seeking students WILL NOT RECEIVE FINANCIAL AID.

Admission Procedures: Visiting Students

Visiting Students

Qualifications:

 Students wishing to take one class only at Missouri Baptist University

 A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

Please submit:

 Graduate Application

 $35 non-refundable application fee

NOTE: A visiting student may take only one class at visiting student status. Upon

completion of one class, a student must apply to the graduate program as either a non-degree or a

degree-seeking student. All materials listed in the above applicable section will be required for

acceptance into the program.

NOTE: Visiting students WILL NOT RECEIVE FINANCIAL AID.

ALL REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIALS MUST BE SUBMITTED BEFORE:

 Your financial aid can be processed or applied.

 You will be fully admitted into the University.

 Your registration can be moved from unofficial to official status.

 You take more than one semester of sixteen-week courses or two eight-week courses.

Master Promissory Note:

This note guarantees you will be responsible for any charges incurred by you while a student at Missouri Baptist

University. This is not a payment plan and there is no charge associated with the document. Please complete

(print) the (1) date, (2) top line Maker, (3) Maker name, address, city, state, zip, (4) social security number, (5)

the bottom half. Only sign where it says Maker(s) signature. An MBU rep will sign the lower left hand corner.

Your classes will not be moved to official status until this note is completed and received by the Business

Office.

Classification:

1st Time Graduate Student – please select if this is the first time you have ever taken a graduate course within a

particular level of degree (ie: taking your first specialist level class).

Graduate Transfer – please select if you have taken graduate classes previously regardless of whether you and

Missouri Baptist University determine that transfer credit will be applied to the degree/certificate you are

pursuing.

Graduate Readmit – please select if you have previously taken classes at Missouri Baptist University and are

returning after an absence from classes of over one year.

Status:

Graduate Degree-Seeking – select if you will be pursuing a master’s or specialist’s degree. If you are seeking

Initial Certification, you must apply as a degree-seeking student.

Graduate Certification-Only – select if you are pursuing an add-on certification only (ie: Psychological Examiner;

Special Reading; Library Media Specialist; Cross-Categorical; Driver Education). Certification only students must

have already earned their Initial Certification through DESE, the Department of Elementary and Secondary

Education. Certification Only students’ admission requirements are the same as degree-seeking students.

Graduate Non-degree-seeking – select if you are taking classes which will not lead to a degree. If you decide to

become a degree-seeking student, you must declare a major and submit a new application.

Visiting Student – select if you are taking only one class that you intend to transfer to a different university.

NOTE: Non-degree-seeking and Visiting students are not eligible for financial aid.
