SAP 3D Visual Enterprise Rapid-deployment

Solution:

Software Requirements

1 Solution Options

There are two options in the SAP rapid-deployment solution that can be implemented:

Option 1: 3D Visual Enterprise as stand-alone system without other SAP components.

Option 2: 3D Visual Enterprise as integrated system into your SAP PLM environment.

Depending whether you want to use the stand-alone scenario or the integrated scenario with an existing ERP, please choose the relevant software components in this document.

You will find the above symbols in the following to guide you through the relevant options.

* The logical component in SAP Solution Manager is an identifier provided by SAP for the combination of product and product version. When selecting the SAP Solution Manager template later on, the logical component provided by SAP will automatically be mapped with the logical component in the customer system landscape with the same combination of product and product version to set up access from SAP Solution Manager to the correct customer system.

3 Software Components in Detail

The four major software system components in a SAP VE Platform deployment for either solution option include:

 SAP VE Application Server (3D Visual Enterprise Generator)

 SAP VE Database Server

 SAP VE Web Server

 SAP VE Integration Server

The SAP VE Application Server contains the 3D Visual Enterprise Generator component and handles all 3D Visual Enterprise Generator execution and data retrieval. The SAP Visual Enterprise Application Server is specifically optimized for Microsoft SQL Server relational databases and contains the load distribution, prioritization and system tuning capabilities required for large-scale implementations. It also handles all communication with the relational database.

The Application Server must have enough disk space to hold all CAD files SAP Visual Enterprise Generator will import. For server batch interfaces, all CAD files must be staged on locally managed disk because of Microsoft security limitations. Network remote mounted disk space cannot be used to source CAD files for SAP Visual Enterprise Generator batch interface. For user uploads of CAD files, a user can load files by reference; i.e. a mapped network drive that the SAP Visual Enterprise Generator master can access.

The SAP Visual Enterprise database server manages all of the digital assets and associated metadata collected from various data sources. SAP recommends 64 bit MS SQL Server for all installations except development and test environments.

The SAP Visual Enterprise Web server handles all the model and derivative requests from SAP Visual Enterprise Access users. The SAP Visual Enterprise Web Server contains a set of dynamic HTML software that passes interactive graphic content to Web browsers.

4 Hardware Environment Configurations

(System Landscape)

(9)

© SAP AG Page 9 of 10 COLD BACKUP: Cold Backup environment is to safeguard uptime by having an off-network standby SAP Visual Enterprise Generator Primary system.

PRODUCTION SERVER ENVIRONMENT: Production environment is where users produce

deliverables for use in the business. Production environment can be scaled over time to handle data and user load.

TEST ENVIRONMENT: Test environment is used as a staging area between a Development

environment and a Production environment not ‘dirtied’ by development code and application version issues. System testing occurs here to ensure the software will work in production. The SAP Visual Enterprise Test environment should have access to a ‘Test’ PDM deployment environment. The test environment has the following additional characteristics:

• Contains the same type of CPU/core and motherboard hardware as the production environment.

• Same Brand and Model of hardware as the production environment.

• Same Brand, version and patch level of the operating system as the production environment.

• Same version and patch level of all application software, tools, libraries, web servers, and so on as the production environment.

Generator workflow modifications. SAP VE pushes product releases into this environment for unit test of individual customer issues.

TRAINING ENVIRONMENT: The training environment (NOT SHOWN) is used to train customers during training classes on SAP VE software and customizations such as SAP Visual Enterprise Generator workflow modifications. SAP VE typically delivers the training SAP Visual Enterprise Generator environment on a DVD disk for the customer to load onto training computers. PERFORMANCE TEST ENVIRONMENT: Performance Test environment contains non-VM

hardware and separate systems to allow CAD translation and derivative creation performance to be benchmarked. It may or may not match production or the other environments since the goal is efficiency and performance testing.

VEG FARM ENVIRONMENT: A SAP Visual Enterprise Generator Farm environment is a parallel processing environment where multiple VEG application servers work in a pool to share the

processing workload (e.g. translation of multiple CAD parts, assemblies, SOAP and user requests). 3D Visual Enterprise Generator can be configured so that many 3D Visual Enterprise Generator computers share one set of definition and configuration files with a primary 3D Visual Enterprise Generator.

5 Related Information

The SAP 3D Visual Enterprise Quick Guide provides a central starting point for the technical implementation of SAP VE. It contains all the information for a basic implementation of SAP VE solution.

You can find the most current information about the technical implementation of SAP 3D Visual Enterprise and the latest installation and configuration guides on SAP Service Marketplace at http://service.sap.com/instguides.

We strongly recommend that you use the documents available there. The guides are regularly updated.
