February 2021

Dear competitors and support people

Thank you for entering the 2021 Optimist and Starling Auckland Championships. We look forward to

welcoming you to Murrays Bay Sailing Club. To ensure a great regatta and to make the information you need easily accessible we’re pleased to provide you with some additional information.

There are a few things for you to do to ensure the regatta is successful for everyone so read on…

To find relevant information

We recommend downloading the regatta app for easy access to all regatta information:

Regatta app instructions:

Download ‘TeamApp’ from the Apple or Google Play Store and select ‘find your Team/Club’ search for ‘MBSC Events App’. ‘Request to join this team’s app’ is at the very top of the page. Request to join, select the

‘Auckland Opti & Starling’ event, follow the prompts to get access.

Once in the app you will be able to follow the results, access the official noticeboard and regatta photographs. Turn your notifications on so that you receive alerts when new information is published.

Other information is also available as follows:

Where to find the official notices

Notices to competitors will be placed on the official notice board within TeamApp, please ensure you have this downloaded, following the instructions above. If you have questions, please email

[email protected]

.

Familiarise yourself with the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions

The NOR and Supplementary Sailing Instructions have been posted on the MBSC website, on the official event app. We recommend all sailors and support people read these thoroughly.

We have a COVID-19 management plan

Please use the contact tracing app while at the event. Scan in upon arrival each day using one of the QR codes around the club, turn on your Bluetooth for contact tracing purposes. There are manual sign-in forms available in the clubhouse if you do not have the app on your phone (although we do recommend you download it).

At a minimum please:

• Ensure that you record your attendance at this event

• Consider 2m physical distancing and wearing of a mask or face covering if you prefer

• DO NOT attend if you are feeling unwell or have been in close contact with someone confirmed with COVID-19 in the past 14 days

• Practice good hygiene and ensure your sailors practice good hygiene, use soap to wash your hands thoroughly and there will be hand sanitiser around the club for your use as well

• Alert race officials if you become unwell during or soon after the event so we can implement our Covid-19 response plan.

We will continue to monitor any Covid-19 updates and make the necessary adjustments to our regatta plans if necessary.

Note registration times

The registration desk will be situated in the main clubhouse and open as follows:

• Friday 29 January 1600 – 2000

• Saturday 30 January 0700 – 0900

Entry fees are payable directly to the MBSC bank account (12-3042-0272614-05) quoting the sailor’s name, class and sail number in the payment details. Please ensure payment (including any late entry fee) is made by 1700 Wednesday, 27 January.

An entry list is published on the MBSC website – please check to make sure your details including name(s), class, sail number etc are all correct. There is a Change of Sail Number Request Form on the MBSC website.

Please complete this prior to registration if necessary, making life a lot easier for our race management committee and results team.

No boat storage prior to Thursday 28 January

No boats should be left at MBSC before Thursday 28th. From Thursday 28th you are welcome to store yachts on beach trolleys at MBSC – dedicated areas are mapped out below. Any road trailers, coach and support boats and race committee boats are to be launched, retrieved and stored at Mairangi Bay Reserve. We will deploy the on the water anchoring system if conditions are suitable.

(3)

Bring your tag - we’re using electronic sign on / off

We’ll be using an electronic QR code system for sign on and off the water.

• If you are NZIODA registered, please bring your QR code tag with you

• If you are in another class or do not have a tag, you will be issued with one at registration to use for this regatta and to be returned at the end of the regatta when you signoff on the last day

• There will be a $10 charge for any ‘loan’ tags not returned at the end of the regatta.

There are no credit card facilities

Please note that we will have Eftpos available for cash transactions only, we do not accept credit card or provide ‘cash out’ facilities. We accept cash payments as well.

Register your support boat

All support boats must register using the registration form on the MBSC website:

https://forms.gle/K3DSkjwchqpYwjGL6

All support and coach boats are requested to have VHF communications and be available to assist the race committee if required. Please complete a radio check with MBSC tower to confirm your presence on the water; channels are:

o Opti Green and Starling development course A – channel 27 o Opti open and white course B – channel 77

o Starling course C – channel 17

All support boats are requested to launch from Mairangi Bay – please note that no support boat launching facilities will be available at Murrays Bay. Overnight storage is available on the Mairangi Bay reserve. All support vessels shall always have a kill-cord attached to the driver while the engine is running.

Results and prizegiving

Results will be posted within ‘results’ in the regatta app.

The official prizegiving will take place as soon as possible after the last race on the last day of the regatta.

For your safety

Use the tunnel: Please do not cross the main road (Beach Road). It is very busy and on a blind corner. You must use the tunnel which will be signposted.

Top bunker concrete barrier: Standing on top of the bunker concrete barrier edge (for example for retrieving halyards etc) is strictly prohibited, as is hanging anything over the railing, including covers.

First aid: Our first aid station is located on the southern side of the bottom bunker. Sarah Redpath will be present in the first aid area each day and is our health and safety contact during the regatta.

There may be some roadworks causing disruption

We have received notice from Auckland Transport that they have planned footpath upgrades from 25-30 January in our area. This may cause some disruption and is unfortunately out of our control. Take care when moving around the area if there are works underway at the time of the regatta.

Launching safely at MBSC

At times we experience big onshore breakers at MBSC, and the weather forecast for our regatta is indicating this could be the case – an onshore nor-easterly, with high tide at 0900 on Saturday morning. If you are not volunteering on a support boat, we require all parents on hand to help with launching and retrieval on the day. Please bring your wetsuit or swimming gear and be prepared to get wet. This is for the safety of all sailors, the locals will give you a hand and further direction will be given at briefing each day once the conditions for the day is confirmed.

Parking

We have mail dropped our local residents and informed them of the regatta. Please when you park in the surrounding streets, respect all the normal rules. DO NOT park on or too close to corners. DO NOT intrude on driveways.

Please also DO NOT park on both sides of Bournemouth Road between numbers 19 and 25. This is a very narrow part of the road and if you park on both sides, traffic cannot get through.

There is limited parking available:

• Immediately opposite the club in the carpark on the other side of Beach Road. Please do not park in the restaurant and shop carparks. They are marked, and infringers will be towed

• Outram Hall, immediately to the north of the Murrays Bay creek. Outram Hall may be used from Friday afternoon onwards

• Mairangi Bay along the beach front, Montrose Terrace, which is a short walk on the coastal pipeline to Murrays Bay. See photos below. The Mairangi Bay reserve will be locked overnight.

Be efficient when you drop off your boat

Please do not linger when dropping your boat or sailors outside the club. Please offload your boat and gear promptly and move your car away for parking. Do not park on the MBSC access road or footpath at anytime

Do not leave your road trailers at the club

If anyone is proposing to leave road trailers at the club for the weekend - please don’t. Rigging space will be at a premium. Please move the trailer to your accommodation, or to the Mairangi Bay parking spot.

Stow your beach trailer appropriately

Parents, after sailors are launched, please help to keep the beach tidy by tightly grouping all trailers immediately to the north of the boat ramp – that’s to the right, with your back to the sea. All beach trailers should be clearly identified with the sail number – thank you for your assistance with this as we do share our beach with swimmers, especially over a long summer weekend.

We have specified rigging areas

Fleets will be allocated to designated rigging areas, please follow the signs to the area relevant for your fleet.

You’re welcome to enjoy our clubhouse

You’re welcome to enjoy the Clubhouse during this regatta. Our galley will be open for refreshments and lunches and we’ll have a barista on site – so bring your keep cup. Sailors, please keep the change rooms clean and tidy and shower time to a minimum – we’re still a bit short of water in Tāmaki Makarau!

Only the rostered tractor driver may use the tractor.

Make a note of the courses and radio channels

The classes on each course and VHF Channel assigned to each course are as follows:

Course Classes VHF Channel

A Optimist Green and Starling Development 27

B Optimist Open, Optimist White 77

C Starling 17

No washing down of boats please

While water restrictions have only partially lifted in Auckland, there will be no wash down facilities available during the regatta, until the last day, Monday 1 February when you are welcome to wash down your boat before returning home.

Stay hydrated!

It’s hot out there - please remember to bring a refillable and reusable water bottle and stay hydrated.

Enjoy some refreshments

Our awesome MBSC galley team will be open from 0800 each morning offering bacon & egg baps and barista coffee. You can build your own burger for lunch from 1100 and we’ll have pies, sausage rolls, toasted

sandwiches, snacks and home baking available throughout the day. Hot and cold drinks are available all day and our Bar will open from around 1530 each day.

Remember to pick up your sailor’s lunch

If you have pre-ordered and paid for a lunch for your sailor as part of registration, these are available from the galley team from 0830 each day.

Marine shop

Jon Olds, or Oldsie as he’s more commonly known will be at Auckland Champs. If you do use Jon’s services, please ensure you compensate accordingly as there is a cost for time and materials when repairs are made. The nearest marine supplies shop is Burnsco, 17 Tawa Dr, Albany (09 443 3992).

Care for your environment

We know we don’t really need to say this, but please look after our beach and water environment. Put your litter in the bins. Tie drink bottles to your boat. Leave only your footsteps. We encourage sailors to use refillable water bottles and coffee drinkers to bring a keep-cup for their coffee.

We’re here to help

If you do need to urgently contact regatta management, please text or phone:
