Due to the COVID-19 shelter-in-place order, most of these trainings are conducted

virtually via Zoom. Risk Management will provide more up-to-date information on

availability for in-person trainings in the future.

DOT Reasonable Suspicion Training

for Supervisors/Managers

This training is required for all Supervisors and Managers of County employees that:  Hold a commercial driver’s license (CDL), or

 Participate in the Department of Transportation (DOT) program, or  Drive County or personal vehicles for business purposes.

The purpose of this training is to teach supervisors to identify specific circumstances and indicators that may create reasonable suspicion that a driver is using or under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and how to complete the documents and procedures supporting a referral of an employee for testing under the County’s DOT and Reasonable Suspicion Program.

Completion Time: 2.5 hours

Online Class Prerequisite: (approximately 1 hour each)

Self-assign and complete the following Target Solutions Online Training Classes prior to attendance at the classroom training:

 Reasonable Suspicion of Alcohol for Supervisors  Reasonable Suspicion of Drugs for Supervisors Training content, exercises, and materials include:

 Overview of the County DOT program  Copies of the DOT Handbook and Forms  Reasonable Suspicion Checklist

DRIVER SAFETY TRAINING CLASS

Driver Safety Training is a class designed for County employees to refresh their

driving skills including County driving and vehicle policies, the newest state laws,

defensive driving techniques, emergency procedures, and more. This class is an

interactive discussion on today’s driving challenges and best practices.

ERGONOMICS AND COMFORT

County employees are encouraged to attend classroom ergonomics training to

understand how to work safely with ergonomically neutral postures, rotate their work

tasks, and avoid fatigue. This interactive class empowers employees to stay

comfortable and safe at their workstations.

County employees that receive an ergonomic evaluation are required to take this

training onsite or online.

NOTE – for convenience, this class can also be requested to be delivered at your

worksite for your next staff meeting or safety day! Just send an email to

[email protected] to request a custom class.

FORKLIFT TRAINING CLASSES

Forklift Training is required for drivers every three years. This class includes a classroom review of forklift safety issues, safe operating rules, and a hands-on driving practical exercise.

Completion Time: 4+ hours

Dates: Thursday, April 22 (In Person) Tuesday, October 13 (In Person) Time: Classroom 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Practical exam 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

INCIDENT INVESTIGATION

TRAINING

Incidents and accidents involving County employees and property occur all the time. Some cause injury or property damage, but many seem to have no negative effects. Which cases need to be investigated? How do you investigate and figure out what caused them? How can they have prevented them from occurring again, or at least reduce the severity of the effects?

This class is encouraged to those that are involved in your department’s incident investigation process (i.e., manager, supervisor, safety coordinator, safety committee member, or building manager).

This is an interactive workshop covering the following topics and principles:  Identifying what to investigate

 Incident investigation process

 Incident reporting and investigation forms

 Identifying incident causes (Root Cause Analysis)  Corrective action plans and follow-up

WORKPLACE VIOLENCE

PREVENTION TRAINING CLASSES

Workplace violence includes any act or threat of physical violence, harassment, intimidation, or other threatening disruptive behavior that occurs at the worksite. It can affect and involve employees, clients, customers, and visitors. Contra Costa County policy prohibits violence in the workplace. Through a combination of personal safety techniques, building security measures, reporting, and training, workplace violence can be reduced or eliminated. This class is designed for and available to all County employees but does not meet the

requirements for Health Services Department’s annual training. Completion Time: 2 hours

SAFETY COORDINATOR TRAINING

WOSH CLASS 2021

In partnership with UC Berkeley Worker Occupational Safety & Health (WOSH) Program – WOSH Specialist Certification

This course is required for NEW and ALTERNATE Department safety coordinators.

The class is encouraged for safety committee members, leads, supervisors, and other employees with a safety-related role.

It is preferable to take this County specific WOSH training over the general WOSH training. However, if you cannot attend this County specific WOSH training, please attend the general WOSH training (see next page for more information).

The program involves 24 hours of classroom training. Attendees will receive the WOSH Specialist certification, recognized by the State of California and Cal/OSHA. Descriptions of the core

The Worker Occupational Safety and Health (WOSH) Specialist training program is a statewide effort aimed at reducing job-related injuries and illnesses among California workers.

At this online, interactive training you will learn basic occupational health and safety concepts, how to take a leadership role in promoting health and safety at your workplace, and strategies for taking action. Attendees who attend all four sessions will receive downloadable health and safety resources, have a chance to share ideas and strategies with employees from other workplaces, and will receive a certificate of completion as a WOSH Specialist.
