An insurance policy or funeral plan?

In most cases, people believe their insurance policy will cover the full cost of their funeral, in most cases people are wrong to believe this.

Insurance policies only cover a set sum, with the rising costs of funeral expenses these policies will only cover a fraction of the cost leaving your estate or loved ones to cover the shortfall. In most cases, people pay these policies until they are 90 years of age still leaving a shortfall.

Can I choose a burial or cremation?

Yes, you can choose to have either a burial or cremation. The cost of the headstone and burial plot are not covered by the Funeral Plan and so you, or your loved ones, will need to arrange to pay for the headstone or burial plot separately.

I’ve already set aside some money for my funeral expenses.

Setting money aside is always a good idea. However, with interest rates so low and funeral expenses rising, many saving and insurance plans fall short of the cost.

I’d prefer to have the security of an established Bank or Building Society

Leaving aside the fact a Bank or Building Society cannot freeze Funeral Director`s costs at today’s

prices, every penny you put into the Funeral Service funeral plan is looked after in an independent Trust Fund, completely safe with a board of trustees.

Do I have to pay all at once?

you don’t want to pay for the funeral plan outright, payments can be spread from 12 months to 120 months. (If you take it out over one year, it will not attract an instalment charge)

I’m not in the best of health and must be too old for a funeral plan?

At Mairi Russell, we know how important it is for people to have their funeral arrangements and guaranteed acceptance regardless of your health.
