10,000 REASONS

CONFESSION

Almighty God, our heavenly Father we have gone our own way, not loving you as we ought, nor loving our neighbour as ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed and in what we have failed to do.

We deserve your condemnation. Father, forgive us.

Help us to love you and our neighbour, and to live for your honour and glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

WELCOME Michael Jensen

Bless the Lord O my soul, O my soul Worship His Holy name

Sing like never before O my soul I’ll worship Your Holy name 1. The sun comes up it’s a new day dawning

it’s time to sing your song again

whatever may pass and whatever lies before me let me be singing when the evening comes Refrain 2. You’re rich in love

and you’re slow to anger

your name is great and your heart is kind for all your goodness I will keep on singing

ten thousand reasons for my heart to find Refrain 3. And on that day

when my strength is failing

the end draws near, and my time has come still my soul will sing your praise unending

ten thousands years and then forever more Refrain

HEARING GOD'S WORD

This is the word of the Lord Thanks be to God

Bible Reading Luke 18:28-40 James Kim

28 Then they took Jesus from Caiaphas to Pilate’s headquarters. It was early in the morning. They themselves did not enter the

headquarters, so as to avoid ritual defilement and to be able to eat the Passover. 29 So Pilate went out to them and said, “What

accusation do you bring against this man?” 30 They answered, “If this man were not a criminal, we would not have handed him over to you.” 31 Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and judge him according to your law.” The Jews replied, “We are not permitted to put anyone to death.” 32 (This was to fulfill what Jesus had said when he indicated the kind of death he was to die.)

33 Then Pilate entered the headquarters again, summoned Jesus, and asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” 34 Jesus answered,

“Do you ask this on your own, or did others tell you about me?” 35 Pilate replied, “I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to me. What have you done?” 36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my followers would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.” 37 Pilate asked him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered,

“You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.” 38 Pilate asked him, “What is truth?”

After he had said this, he went out to the Jews again and told them,

“I find no case against him. 39 But you have a custom that I release someone for you at the Passover. Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?” 40 They shouted in reply, “Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a bandit.

SERMON Fili Lolohea Bible Reading - Philippians 3:17-4:1 Ben Barrack

This is the word of the Lord Thanks be to God

BEAUTIFUL SAVIOUR

1. All my days I will sing this song of gladness, give my praise to the fountain of delights;

for in my helplessness you heard my cry, and waves of mercy poured down on my life.

2. I will trust in the cross of my Redeemer, I will sing of the blood that never fails;

of sins forgiven, of conscience cleansed, of death defeated and life without end.

Beautiful Saviour, wonderful counselor, clothed in majesty, Lord of history, you’re the way, the truth and life.

Star of the morning, glorious in holiness, you’re the risen one, heaven’s champion, and you reign, you reign over all.

Paul wrote 17 Brothers and sisters, join in imitating me, and observe those who live according to the example you have in us. 18 For many live as enemies of the cross of Christ; I have often told you of them, and now I tell you even with tears. 19 Their end is destruction; their god is the belly; and their glory is in their shame; their minds are set on earthly things. 20 But our citizenship is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. 21 He will transform the body of our humiliation that it may be conformed to the body of his glory, by the power that also enables him to make all things subject to himself. Therefore, my brothers and sisters, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, my beloved.

PRAYERS FOR OUR CHURCH, OUR CITY, AND THE WORLD Megan Best

RESPONDING TO GOD'S WORLD

NICENE CREED

3. I long to be where the praise is never-ending, yearn to dwell where the glory never fades;

where countless worshippers will share one song, and cries of ‘worthy’ will honour the Lamb! Chorus

Stuart Townend

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten not made, of one being with the Father; through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: he was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures;

he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

(8)

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.

GOING OUT TO SERVE

COMMUNION

Prayer of Preparation

We do not presume to come to your table, merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your boundless goodness and mercy.

We are not even worthy to eat the crumbs under your table, but you are the same Lord, always rich in mercy. Enable us by faith to eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ, and to drink his blood, that we may be cleansed from sin and forever dwell in him, and he in us. Amen

THE LORD'S PRAYER

CROWN HIM WITH MANY CROWNS NOTICES

1. Crown him with many crowns, the Lamb upon his throne,

Hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own.

Awake, my soul, and sing of him who died for me,

and hail him as your chosen King through all eternity.

(9)

Closing Prayer

Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb. Praise and glory, wisdom and thanks, honour, power and strength, be to our God for ever and ever. Amen.

2. Crown him the Son of God before the worlds began:

and we who tread where he has trod crown him the Son of Man,

who every grief has known that wrings the human breast,

and takes and bears them for his own, that all in him may rest.

3. Crown him the Lord of life, who triumphed o'er the grave, and rose victorious in the strife for those he came to save.

His glories now we sing, who died, and rose on high, who died, eternal life to bring, and lives that death may die.

4. Crown him the Lord of peace, whose power a sceptre sways

from pole to pole, that wars may cease, absorbed in prayer and praise.

His reign shall know no end, and round his pierced feet fair flowers of paradise extend their fragrance ever sweet.

Matthew Bridges (1800-1894) and Godfrey Thring (1823-1903)
