Remote Link and System Link Software Update

July 17, 2001

Version 1.03 Software Update

Effective July 18, 2001, all Remote Link and System Link software is being shipped from the factory as version 1.03 (7/17/01) software. This version is an update from the 1.02 (5/29/01) software previously shipped and contains new features and updated operation to the program.

New Features

Alarm Monitoring Module

Remote Link and System Link now provide operation with the Alarm Monitoring Module which is being released July 17, 2001. The easy-to-use module is an add-on to DMP’s Remote Link and System Link programs and can be purchased by calling DMP Customer Service at 1-800-641-4282. The Alarm Monitoring Module allows operators to receive and process alarm signals, monitor openings, closings, and door accesses for subscriber accounts.

The Alarm Monitoring Module easily installs into your current Remote Link or System Link program. Follow the simple instructions to install and run the Alarm Monitoring Module on one workstation in your company to allow for alarm processing.

When an alarm signal is received, an Alarm List will automatically open and display the alarm. If an operator is working in another part of the Remote Link or System Link program, the Alarm List will open on top of any other open windows. An audible tone will sound informing operators of new alarms. Operators may view the Alarm List at any time by pressing the F3 key, or by opening System > Alarm List. Alarm Monitoring Module is now available for use with Remote Link or System Link software. The recommended system requirements have been revised to support Alarm Monitoring.

Recommended System Requirements

The System Requirements for Remote Link, System Link and Alarm Monitoring have been updated to reflect the different needs of each software product running on different operating systems.

The following table contains the Minimum and Recommended System Requirements for Remote Link, System Link, and Alarm Monitoring. Each software product will operate properly under the minimum requirements. For optimum performance, meet or exceed the guidelines outlined under the Recommended columns.

These items will also be required to install and run Remote Link, System Link, and Alarm Monitoring: o 800 x 600 or higher resolution monitor

o CD-ROM drive

o One available COM port if connecting to SCS-1, SCS-105, or direct cable connection. (Two for pass-through feature)

o NIC Card (if using Ethernet connection for alarm communication)

Enhanced Open/Close Reports

Support for the enhanced Open/Close reports on the XR20 and XR40 version 202 (5/31/01) has been implemented. XR20/XR40 version 202 was released 6/8/01.

The XR20 and XR40 have additional Opening / Closing reporting capability. Select one of the following options from the drop-down menu:

No: Do not send opening and closing reports.

Yes: Send opening and closing reports for each programmed area.

Limited (LTD): Send only one opening and one closing report. When Limited is

selected and all areas become armed, the panel sends a General Closing Report. Then after the first disarming, the panel sends a General Opening Report. Therefore, when Limited is selected the panel will only send a report after all areas are armed and then at the first disarm of an area. All openings and closings will be logged in the event buffer. Limited is only available when the

communication type is CID or M2E. Refer to Communication Type.

Alarm (ALM): Sends only one opening report if an alarm has occurred during the

last armed cycle. The panel will send a General Opening Report. The panel does not send closing reports when Alarm is selected. All other openings and closings will be logged in the event buffer. This option is only available when the communication type is CID or M2E. Refer to Communication Type.

Purge Options

Acknowledged Messages can now be purged from Purge Options found under the Database tab of Configuration.

Purge allows you to remove Remote Link activity from the database. Select the start and end dates, then select Activity, Acknowledge Events, and/or Events. Click System > Configure > Remote Link to open the Remote Link Configuration window. Click on the Database tab to set your Purge Options.

Start Date: Enter the first date that you would like to purge events. You may

type the numbers, use the arrow keys, or use the drop-down calendar.

End Date: Enter the last date that you would like to purge events. You may type

the numbers, use the arrow keys, or use the drop-down calendar.

Activity: Select Activity to remove the Remote Link operator activity.

Acknowledged Messages: Select Acknowledged Messages to remove all

acknowledged Alarm List messages. You can still print these messages after you have purged them.

Events: (Must have Alarm Monitoring) Select Events to remove Events for the

Alarm Monitoring Module. This removes events such as all alarms, troubles, opening/closing events, and door access events. After these events are purged, you cannot print these reports.

Click the Purge button to remove all activity and/or events from the Remote Link database for the selected dates.

Database Update

The database has been updated to speed the process of accessing information and to allow operation of the Alarm Monitoring add-on module. When the program is first started after the update, a short delay will occur as the database is automatically updated.

Note: To provide the enhanced operation, this update will automatically clear the current

Inactivity Timeout

A timeout occurs if no activity (upload/download) is detected within 4 minutes and 30 seconds. At timeout, a message box appears and allows an operator to extend the connection. If an extension is not performed, Remote Link will disconnect with the panel 1 minute later. The timeout operates only when Remote Link is communicating with the panel using one of the following methods:

o The computer network card (NIC)

o The computer modem to a DMP Model 462FM Fast Modem card

o The computers serial port to direct connect to a DMP Model 462N Network Interface Card

Panel information

Panel information now contains the model, version number and firmware date of the account’s panel. The Name column gives you a name to associate with each account number

The City column helps you keep track of the location of each account

The Receiver column shows which receiver you are using to connect to that panel. The Account column shows the account number that you assign to each alarm account. The Model column lists the model of the account panel.

The Version column lists the firmware version of the account panel.

The Date column lists the date of the firmware version of the account panel. Note: You must scroll to the right to view the panel’s Model, Version, and Date.

Auto Recall Frequency Report

The Extended Panel Information window displayed when the Extra Information button is clicked in the Panel Information window now provides options to determine if a panel has failed to send a test report within a specific number of days.

Extra Information: You may record additional notes about the panel account by clicking on the Extra

Information button on the panel information window.

There are several fields in the Extended Panel Information window:

Response: Information for the operator on what type of response to send

in case of an alarm on this panel.

Notes: Any additional information, such as special details about the

building and premises, which may be useful for the operator or response team.

Emergency Call List: Enter the name, address, and phone number for the

individuals to contact in case of an alarm on this panel account.

Auto Recall Frequency: Enter the number of days (0 to 60) during which

the panel is expected to send at least one Automatic Recall Test. The default is set to zero (0). When 0 is entered, Remote Link will not look for an Automatic Recall Test for the account. If Remote Link does not receive an Automatic Recall Test within the programmed time period, the account is placed in the Recall Failure List. You may print the list of accounts that failed to send an Automatic Recall Test by going to File > Print > Recall Failure List.

After an Automatic Recall Test is received, Remote Link will begin counting down to look for the next Automatic Recall Test from the account. Remote Link’s countdown adds two hours onto the entered number of days. For example, if 2 is entered in the Auto Recall Frequency field, Remote Link will look for the next test in 50 hours—48 hours plus two.

Allow Test Deferrals: Check this box to allow Remote Link to accept any

incoming message from the account as the Automatic Recall Test. For example, if 2 is entered in the Auto Recall Frequency field and the account sends an opening signal within the 2 days, Remote Link will accept the opening signal as the Automatic Recall test. Remote Link will then restart the timer after the opening signal is received.

Note: To coincide with the panel programming, these two fields, Auto Recall Frequency and Allow Test Deferrals, should have the same value as the Test Frequency and Defer Test fields in Program > Communications > Test Timer tab.

Hyperlink: (Must have an add-on module such as Alarm Monitoring to

Use) Enter the file or URL address you wish to open. See the Module’s User’s Guide or the Remote Link Help file for more information.

Updated Operation

Output Schedules

All Output Schedules are now properly stored in the database when retrieved from a panel. Previously, only the first schedule from the XR200, XR200-485, XR40, and XR2400F was stored.

Miscellaneous Issues

The following bullet list contains various issues addressed in this release.

o When creating a new user code, user levels 6-9 now have the correct menu access.

o After changing information in any programming window and pressing the Next or Previous button, Remote Link won’t proceed to the next window if you choose Yes at Save Changes and there are invalid values in that programming window.

o When creating a new zone, the Normally Open option for wireless zones now defaults to grayed-out.

o When printing the panel program, both digits of the Wireless Check-In Time is now printed. o Unused zones retrieved from a panel are no longer stored in the database and are not

displayed by Zone Information.

o Fire has been added as a Device Type when connected to an XR200 version 107 or higher. o The transmission delay option now allows for more than one digit for the XR10, XR20, and

XR40.

o For the XR2400F, the DO Output option in Zone Programming has been renamed Fire Bell Output for FI, FV, and SV zone types.

o The Area schedules option under System Options now only allows the appropriate digits 1, 2, 4, and 8 for the number of area schedules on the 1512/1812/1912 panels.

o Removed non-operational pager option from 1912XR version 112 because this option is not supported by the panel.

Release Notes

McAfee Virus Scan

The McAfee Virus Scan program may detect a virus called Coke.22231. This is an error with the virus scan program and is not actually a virus present in Remote Link or any of DMP’s programs.

If your McAfee program is detecting this virus, download and install the latest version of McAfee. Note: Norton AntiVirus does not detect this virus.

Print Preview on Windows 2000

When Remote Link and the other DMP programs are used on a Windows 2000 system, it has been noted that the Print Setup and Print buttons may be disabled when in the Print Preview mode. The workaround available at this time is to close the Print Preview window and select the Print button or Setup button from the Report Setup window.
