This document provides a list of approved readers and terminals for MasterCard® PayPass™ and Maestro® PayPass™. For the most current list of
approved PayPass devices, go to www.paypass.com.
Reader and Terminal Types
The following types of readers and terminals are available from various manufacturers.
Terminal Type Description
Multi-Lane Payment Devices with Integrated PayPass Readers
The PayPass reader is integrated into these consumer-facing devices that provide payment capability to store point-of-sale systems. Most common in supermarkets, department stores, chain drug stores and large retailers.
Payment Devices with Integrated PINPAD and Contactless Reader
The PayPass reader is integrated into these consumer-facing devices that provide payment capability to store point-of-sale systems. Most common in supermarkets, department stores, chain drug stores and large retailers.
Drive-Through These PayPass readers are integrated into consumer-facing devices that provide payment capability to store point-of-sale systems. They are designed primarily for quick-pay merchants that have drive-through windows.
Unattended Devices with PayPass Reader
These readers are installed directly into unattended devices such as vending machines, kiosks, and parking meters.
Peripheral Readers Designed as peripheral devices to be attached to existing point-of-sale terminals, electronic cash registers (ECR) or other payment devices. Unattended Devices with PayPass
Reader/Validator
These readers typically are installed at train stations, bus stations, and onboard transit vehicles to validate passenger tickets Mobile Payment PDA/Companion
with Integrated PayPass Reader
These hand-held readers are used for
retailers/merchants on the move. These payment companions are connected either with a PDA, or mobile phone, iPhone, and/or iPod .
Wireless Terminals with Integrated PayPass Reader
These terminals are stand alone, battery operated terminals with Bluetooth or GPRS connections.

Countertop Terminals with Integrated PayPass Reader
These terminals are stand-alone devices with embedded landline connectivity (and
embedded Chip, swipe, Contactless, PIN Entry, and printer).
Transit and Mobility Card Processors and Readers with Integrated PayPass Reader
For use at major urban rail hall, a small platform or onboard vehicles, offer high visibility and quick passenger throughput and are used to validate smart cards in conjunction with a driver console as the part of a sophisticated “on-bus” network or as stand-alone fare collection devices.
