“The Bell is Tolling”
By Most Rev. James D. Conley, S.T.L., Apostolic Administrator
On Friday, January 20, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that most religious institutions—including Catholic hospitals, schools and social service agencies— would not be exempted from a federal government requirement that employee health plans must provide free contraceptives. This is a criti-cal issue for us that must not be ignored. Catholics must take a lead in restoring our Constitutional religious freedom. There is an answer to this attack on our religious freedom. The “Respect for Rights of Conscience Act,” now before Congress, is more important than ever before. All Catholics need to support its passage. All Christians should join us by praying for a return to justice and by visiting www.usccb.org/conscience to begin contacting their representatives. Each of us has an interest in defending liberty. Now is the time. The bell tolls for us all.

Faith Finances is about applying God’s word to personal finances and mastering the three principles to biblical finances: Giving, Managing and Increase. After his own personal financial crisis followed by much study of the Scriptures, Catholic author, Thomas Zordani wrote this best-selling book to help others discover “If I was incapable of handling what little money I had, there would be no way I could possibly deserve or handle more. It wasn’t until I changed my heart and my thinking and applied timeless stewardship principles found in Holy Scripture that my finances began to change.” Reserve your seats now by calling 720-273-5851 or tom@faithfinances.net Sponsored by the Office of Marriage & Family Life.

St Stephen CATHOLIC CHURCH
Nationally known Catholic Lay-missionary who moves in the gift of prophecy and healing, Brendan Case, will be here at St Stephen’s on February 14th. Here are some powerful ways the Holy Spirit has moved in recent
Parish Mission Weeks that Brendan Case has presented:
Deaf Man Hears: Efrain, 26 years old, has been deaf in his left ear since birth. At a recent Parish Mission
Week in East Wenatchee, WA, Efrain’s ear was opened and he is hearing with his left ear.
Double Vision Cured: At a recent retreat a woman asked Brendan to pray for the healing of her sight. She
was inflicted with double vision. As they prayed Brendan sensed that the problem was not physical but demonic in origin. It was from the Demon of Confusion. The Demon of Confusion was bound and cast to the feet of Christ crucified never to return again. Instantly the women’s sight returned to normal.
What does God want to do for you?
A free will offering will be received. Please be generous to bless Brendan’s family to continue this Mission he has received from the Lord Jesus for our Father’s glory.

Sixth Sunday
in Ordinary Time
Mark 1:40-45
To this Lord’s day liturgy of
word and Eucharist, God has
“led us and guided us for the sake of His name” and for the sake of our growth in holiness as the time of Lent draws near. Let us ask that Jesus’ healing touch cleanse us of sin’s leprosy and “fashion us by
His grace to become a dwell-ing place pleasdwell-ing to God”.
As we listen to the Old Testament’s
book of Leviticus and its strict
rules segregating people with lep-rosy from the rest of the commu-nity, we who are blessed with the wonders of modern medicine must remember that Leviticus was try-ing to protect the whole commu-nity from a contagious disease. But precisely because Leviticus is so reasonable for those times, Je-sus’ daring to break its boundaries
challenges us to reflect on our own exclusion of others—and our own need of Jesus’ heal-ing touch. Let us trust that the
Lord will comfort us!
Mark’s Gospel (1:40-45)
teaches us a very important lesson. A person with leprosy comes to Je-sus and asks to be healed. We learn to see all human beings as children of God. Everyone is
ac-ceptable to God. Like Jesus, we
are to reach out to all people with the love and compassion of God. Perhaps we think we do this al-ready. After all, we’re good
peo-ple and we don’t hurt others,
and help others when we can.
Mark’s Gospel is more than
being a good person or reaching out to others. It’s about
accept-ing and reachaccept-ing out to others who are not liked or accepted by others. More than anything
else, Jesus cares about
peo-ple—all people!
What am I doing for Lent this year? Lent is a powerful
opportu-nity for spiritual renewal and
growth. The Stations of the Cross for Seniors will be held on Saturdays during February
and March except on March 17th. The first day for praying them is:
February 25th at 12:30 pm in the church. The other dates will
be published next week. Hope you will join us!

Catholicism – video series. This 10 part video series gives a beautiful and compelling
overview of the basic beliefs of the Roman Catholic Church. The cinematography is incredible and it was filmed from locations all over the world. All are welcome, but it is especially directed at people who are interested in learning more about the Church or fallen away Catholics who are interested in taking a second look at their faith. Each episode lasts about 50 minutes and will likely generate a short discussion afterwards. Refreshments will be served. The videos will be shown on Thursdays at
7:00 pm in the school starting on January 12th. Think about bringing a friend or family member to this incredible event. For more information, contact Tom Ziemann at 384-2127.
