1. GENERAL INFORMATION 1.1. Event Location

1.3. Eligibility

Must be a registered current member (athlete) of Athletics Canada (AC) Must hold Canadian Citizenship by the Final Selection Date

Must submit an Athlete Declaration form as per the dates outlined in Section 1.2 Must comply with Competitive Readiness Requirements as outlined in Section 4.0 Must otherwise be eligible to participate in the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships Must compete at the 2016 Canadian Indoor Championships, February 19th to 21st, 2016 in Montreal, Quebec in the event for which they might be selected, unless pre-authorized by the head coach to compete in another event.

The World Indoor Championships must be included in the athletes 2016 yearly training plan

1.4. Funding

This team will be 100% funded; however, this is subject to change as per available resources

1.5. Events

60m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 60mH, HJ, PV, LJ, TJ, SP, HEP (M), PENT (W)

1.6. Maximum per Event

Maximum of 2 athletes per event

1.7. Qualifying Trials

There will be no qualifying trials for these championships

1.8. Final Selection Date

The AC National Team Committee (NTC) will announce the final team selections shortly following the end of the Qualifying Period and after any appeals have been decided, as per Section 7.0

1.9. Final Declaration Date

Athletes are required to submit the Athlete Declaration Form on or before Feb 28th, 2016. Failure

to submit this form by the deadline will render the athlete ineligible for selection. Athletes must submit their declaration using the online form –

1.10. Team List Announcement

AC will announce the team list through established communication channels (Provincial Branches, AC website, Bulletin, etc.). Selected athletes will be contacted directly prior to public announcements

1.11. National Team – Selection Rules Book

All athlete selections made in accordance with this Selection Criteria are subject to the rules and regulations outlined in the National Team – Selection Rules Book

2. TEAM OBJECTIVES

To select a team of athletes who are capable of finishing in the top 6 in a track event and top 8 in a field event or combined events, at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships To achieve a higher overall performance ranking as a team compared to previous World Indoor Championships

3. SELECTION PROCESS 3.1. Eligibility Pool

The Eligibility Pool will be comprised of athletes who meet the following criteria: Comply with the eligibility requirements of Section 1.3

Achieve the Qualifying Standard (Appendix A) within the Qualifying Period

Deemed capable of finishing top 6 in a track event or top 8 in a field event or combined event at the 2016 World Indoor Championships by the NTC

Completed and submitted their intent to compete via the Athlete Declaration Form by the deadline

Comply with the Competitive Readiness Requirements of Section 4.0

Note: Being in the Eligibility Pool does not guarantee nomination to the team 3.2. Selection Process (for track events)

Athletes from the Eligibility Pool will be nominated to the team in priority order based on performance ranking in their respective event during the Qualifying Period outlined in Section 1.2 – maximum of 2 athletes per event

3.3 Selection Process (for Field Events)

In the High Jump and Pole Vault, events shall be held as straight Finals with twelve athletes starting in each event

In the Long Jump, Triple Jump and Shot Put, events shall be held as straight Finals with sixteen athletes starting in each event

Note: This section will be amended once the IAAF announces entry procedures 3.4 Selection Process (for Combined Events)

For the Combined Events, participation is by IAAF invitation only 4. COMPETITIVE READINESS REQUIREMENTS

4.1. Training and Competition Plan

It is the obligation of the athletes (or their personal coach on their behalf) to submit on or before the Athlete Declaration Deadline (Feb 28th, 2016) a training and competition plan for the period

February 29th - March 17th, 2016 and to inform AC of any changes. The plan must address

competitive readiness by identifying specific measurable tests and/or competition targets to serve as fitness and competitive readiness indicators for their scheduled competition day(s). It is expected that the athletes will be clearly tapering during the final preparation phase

All submitted plans must address the following: Planned competitions, travel and training locations

Load and recovery patterns, including recovery strategies and injury prevention if applicable

Submitting Your Plan

Athletes must submit their plans to the Head Coach on or before February 28th, 2016. Any

athlete who fails to comply with these requirements may be removed from the team and replaced with the next eligible athlete

4.2 Competitive Readiness

Selected athletes must remain competitive-ready leading up to this national team event. Athletes who do not remain competitive-ready by reason of lack of fitness, injury, or illness may be removed from the team and replaced by the next eligible athlete. It is the obligation of the athlete to immediately report any injury, illness or change in training that could affect their ability to compete at their highest level at this national team event. Failure to do so will leave the athlete financially responsible for the cost of the event

Competitive-ready is defined as the athlete’s ability to achieve equal or superior performance(s) on-site at the scheduled event, as compared to the performance(s) the athlete achieved in making the team

The National Team Committee (NTC) will make the final decision as to whether an athlete is competitive-ready. The NTC will use all available information at its disposal including the athlete’s training and competition plan, fitness and competitive readiness indicators, submitted medical

documentation, consultation with the athlete’s personal coach and any other relevant performance related information

In the case of injury or illness, the NTC will consider recommendations made by the AC Coordinating Physician, or designate, in making a final decision as to the athlete being Competitive-ready. Injured or ill athletes will be subject to a final proof of readiness test to be determined by the Head Coach in consultation with the personal coach. At a minimum, this test will consist of a controlled performance such as a competition or observed test or trial. Athletes who are injured or ill will not travel with the team until this requirement has been satisfied. If it is determined that the athlete is not competitive-ready once onsite at the event, he or she may be asked to return home immediately

5.0 HEATLH QUESTIONNAIRE AND ANTI-DOPING

Upon nomination, all athletes will be required to complete a Medical Information Form. These questionnaires will ask athletes to declare all supplements and medications that are being used prior, during and after the event. Athletes who require to take medications while

competing must have a completed and approved IAAF Therapeutic Use Exemption prior to nomination

6.0 AMENDMENTS TO THIS DOCUMENT

The NTC reserves the right to amend this document at any time up to the Selection Date for changes imposed by parties external to the NTC or for changes that, in the opinion of the NTC would improve or enhance the selection process

Any changes made by the NTC are deemed to come into effect immediately upon publication on the AC website. Additional publication of the amended Selection Criteria will be made by whatever means and wherever the original Selection Criteria was published

7.0 APPEALS

Only athletes who have achieved the AC indoor Qualifying Standard during the respective Qualifying Periods (Appendix A) may submit an appeal for selection to the NTC. Please refer to the National Team - Selection Rules Book for complete instructions
