T

he domaine was established in 1988 when the parents of Anne-Françoise, Jean and

Jeanine Gros of Vosne-Romanée decided to let go of a few parcels of the family domaine

(The domaine was initially known under the names of Gros-Renaudot, then Louis Gros,

and after inheritance, Jean Gros).

A

t the same time Anne-Françoise aquired a domaine in Flagey-Échezeaux, and later with

her husband, François Parent, purchased a vineyard in Savigny-les-Beaune.

S

hortly thereafter, François added to the domaine his own vineyards in Pommard that

he inherited from his family. Being the 13th generation of winemakers, he continues

to aquire knowledge and techniques that enable him to vinify his wines so that they

express the typicity and complexity of the aromas of the Pinot Noir.

T

ogether they decided to unite the two domaines and install in Beaune the caves,

cuverie and buildings.

his wine, a Burgundy appellation, reveals itself upon closer examination and tasting,

that it contains all the attributes of a Hautes-Côtes. Made from grapes that are harvested two weeks later on the Côte,

in cooler sunshine and a less domesticated environment, this wine is as mysterious as the soil that gives it birth.

Generous and robust, full-bodied and round, it combines engaging berry aromas with real strength. Consume after two to five years of aging.

the philosophy

Our work and the philosophy of our Domaine.

I

n Burgundy every appellation has a personality.

We could compare our Crus, like the tiles on

the Hospices de Beaune, by their diversity and

their radiance.

Each wine has its own vibrant colour and

substance and this is the sensation you feel in

the palate – unique and different in each

appellation. A shimming silky or velvety palate.

In addition to this, we have the annual pleasure

of waiting for the new vintage that we watch

over from the moment of harvest.

We adapt the vinification and elevage for each

different cuvée, in order to maintain and to

show the characteristics of the vintage.

Every year is therefore a renewal and a celebration.

Wine is an intense emotion for those of us that work with it,

and our greatest joy is that our clients can relate to this

emotion.

One customer told us “Wine, as soon as it is drunk, makes up the

millions of particles that are our body and our mind”.

Until his dying day the wine will remain forever in his memory, and

he will continue to re-live these memories and adventures for which

he is full of praise.

Wine is thus re-incarnated, and this is in the end, its true calling.

(14)

By our work,

we show that colours change against a lively

palate that start as mauve–amethyst in a young wine and

then become carmine, ruby or pinky-red and then finally, at

a mature age they have purple-orange nuances.

By our work,

we put emphasis on the perfumes of a Pinot

Noir, a marvellous grape variety that gives a full range of

aromas.

At the start of it’s life the wine show aromas of red fruits and flowers that evolve into

stewed fruits and undergrowth, sometimes with liquorice, chocolate or mocca (these

are secondary notes).

The story continues with a more aged wine into more evolved perfumes

of earth, forest and truffle… musky and complex notes known as

« tertiary aromas ».

It is just this complexity that is a joy to follow in the

evolution of the aromas of Pinot Noir.

The palate will amaze you by its diversity (according to

the different appellations), with a silky or a velvety

mouth-feel; a notable level of acidity, a delicate and elegant body

or perhaps racy and spicy structure… typical of a wine

of pedigree.

The vocabulary is rich with expression, because the language

of wine, like each one of you, is unique.

Drink the wines of Burgundy to reacquaint yourself

and take the time to live…

(15)

HOMMAGE A LA TE RRE

O

nce in a tropical climate there was a green lagoon, where

seashells, starfish, lilies, algae, scallops and coral swarmed in

shallow, tepid waters.

T

he fauna and the flora captured in the fossils give proof of the

climate and vegetation 200 million years ago.

Each appellation is unique

and will yield a different wine.

T

he vines of Burgundy are anchored in a cradle of red soil, sometimes sandy,

sometimes chalky, sometimes rocky. The variations of the soil and the subsoil are

many shades of ochre.

T

he roots will tap this subsoil and,

because of its nature and the nature of

the climate, will give its expression to

the Pinot Noir. In turn, the Pinot

Noir will give the infinite varieties of

the Crus of Burgundy.

Symphony of the Senses

Which could equally unveil a symphony of essences !…

The Robe

of the wine is its color.

The Matière or Substance

is its texture. One

mentions wine as silky, velvety, or of a brilliant Taffeta…

The Parfum or Aromas.

One speaks of

Bouquet.

Often one mentions aromas of red fruits, roses, vanilla, licorice, violet, mint, sweet

spices…, evolving to riper tastes if the wine is older with

savage overtones.

The Palais ( Palate )

is the definition of the taste…

with the descriptions of all the sensations and the analysis of

the evolution of the bouquets and flavors.
