Welcome to North Nottinghamshire College’s guide to our courses for adults. It’s full of opportunities to improve your job skills or career, or to learn something new just for the fun of it.

We have a broad range of full-time and part-time courses.

For work – from basic skills such as brushing up your English and maths to improve your job prospects, to professional qualifications which will give your career a boost.

To secure your place on a course couldn’t be simpler. Ring Student Services on

in an application form. We will make arrangements for you to come into college to speak to a course

tutor. When you meet the course tutor you should be able to enrol and make a payment to secure

your place on the course of your choice.

Help and support for learners aged 19 and over studying funded courses

The fees payable are dependent upon whether the course you wish to study is supported by public funding or not. All non funded, full cost or HNC/HND courses must be paid in full at enrolment, by means of a Student Finance loan or by instalments. NNC may able to offer some financial support from the Student Support fund with any fees.

There is no support available with fees for full-cost or non funded courses. They must be paid in full at enrolment. Prospective learners can apply for a Professional Career Development Loan at participating banks to cover the cost of the course.

Professional Career Development Loans

Professional and Career Development Loans are bank loans to pay for courses and training that help with your career or help get you into work. You may be able to borrow between £300 and £10,000. Loans are usually offered at a reduced interest rate and the government pays interest while you’re studying, visit www.gov.uk/career-development-loans/overview for

more information.

HNC and HND higher education courses

There is no reduction in fees for HNC and HND courses. They must be paid in full at enrolment or supported through a Student Finance loan, visit https://www.gov.uk/student-finance. There is also a small support fund for eligible Student Finance funded learners that may be accessed at College for students who require financial assistance during the academic year.

24+ Advanced Learning Loan

You may qualify for an advanced learning loan to pay for your course fees upfront. Most learners aged 24 and over, studying at Level 3 or 4, will qualify for a loan from the government. Its easy to apply your household income isn’t taken into account and there is no credit check. You won’t have to pay anything back until your earnings are over £21,000 a year or £1750 per month.

The Learner Support Fund

Students studying co-funded courses and in receipt of a low household income may be able to access financial assistance through the Student Support Fund. The fund can help with the cost of course fees, childcare, transport, essential course requirements, travel etc. The Student Support Fund does not cover the first £100 contribution to be made by the student and will support to a maximum of £550. Sponsor payments

If your course is being paid for (in whole or part) by your employer, you will need to bring with you

:-• A completed sponsor payment proforma which can be found on our website at www.nnc.ac.uk/sponsorform.pdf or • A letter on headed stationary from your employer detailing the financial support they are providing.

The College will then invoice your employer for their contribution.

Refunds

Course fees will be refunded if the College closes a class and no suitable alternative class is offered. If you withdraw at any time after enrolment it is at the college’s discretion if you are entitled to a refund. If you feel there are special circumstances then you may appeal against this decision. You must complete a refund form to claim a refund of fees if you leave the course yourself.

Examination re-take fees

For students re-taking an examination there is a minimum charge of £25 per paper or the awarding bodies published re-take fee, whichever is the greater.
