In this course, students will learn how to use QuickBooks Pro

2010 for Accounting; the most widely used computerized

busi-ness accounting system on the market. Course includes

instruction in end-of-quarter entries, closing the fiscal year

and beginning the next year. You will do bank reconciliation,

create financial reports, cash flows, balance sheets, income

statements and adjust entries.

Intermediate Computerized

In the intermediate level QuickBooks Pro 2010, you will

receive instruction in general ledger, accounts receivable,

How Can I Register?

• In person, you may register at the Eloy Garcia Building , Room 102, at the Fort McIntosh Campus, the Academic and Advanced Technology Center, Room 126, at the South Campus or at the Enrollment and Registration Services Center in Memorial Hall, Room 125, Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 6 pm, and Friday from 8 am to 12 pm. For additional information, please call 956.721.5374.

• Payment in full is required at time of registration for all Continuing Education courses. Student must present proof of registration and payment on first class day; there are no entrance requirements.

• Course registration is processed on a first-come, first-served basis, so register early to ensure that you have a place in the class of your choice. There is a minimum student enrollment number required in order to hold a class and there is a maximum number of enrollments as well. All holds must be cleared prior to registering for a course. Continuing Education courses have no entrance requirements; however, some courses require prerequisites, which means that a course or condition has to be successfully completed before you are allowed to register. Students may not be allowed to remain in a course if the prerequisites have not been satisfied.

Class Cancellations

If the minimum enrollment requirements are not met, the class will be can-celled. In the event of a cancellation, we make every effort to notify registered students by phone or email. You may elect to transfer your payment to another class or receive a 100% refund. Refunds are processed automatically. (See refunds in this schedule.)

Class Confirmations

Students are responsible for confirming course start dates and times 24 hours in advance of start date; please call 956.721.5374 or 956.794.4520. Only paid stu-dents will be permitted in classrooms. Please have receipt ready for presentation.

Continuing Education course registration is continuous until a class begins or is full.

Transcript Request

Requests for an official CEU transcript can be made by completing the online request form at www.laredo.edu/ce or by calling the Enrollment and Registration Services Center at 956.721.5109. Transcripts may serve as vali-dation of successful completion of Continuing Education courses. Please note there is no charge for a CEU transcript at this time.

Certificate of Completion

Requests for an end of course certificate of completion will be done after a course is completed. Certificates will be ready for pick up after one week of course com-pletion and can be picked up at the Eloy Garcia Building, Room 102. A certificate of completion may serve as confirmation of completion of the Continuing Education course. Duplicate/Replacement Certificate cost: $5.

The mission of the Continuing Education Department is to provide comprehensive quality educational opportunities. Participants are encouraged to acquire, maintain, and enhance occupational and professional skills to obtain professional development, workforce skills, cultural enhancement, personal growth, and social awareness.

Age Minimum

Continuing Education courses are designed for adults, 18 years or older. Some courses are designed for a younger audience; these classes are the only exceptions to the age restriction. Senior citizens (65 years and older) can enroll in certain Continuing Education open enrollment courses without payment of tuition, if space is available. Qualifying seniors must still pay all applicable fees.

Adding and Dropping a Course

To drop one course and add another, please contact the Continuing Education office at 721.5374, 794.4520 or the Enrollment and Registration Services Center at 721.5117.

CEU

Continuing Education Units are recognized nationally as a measure of sub-stantive in-service education and training. Certificates of completion are issued at the conclusion of vocationally related courses to students who success-fully complete the required coursework. Completion is based on a minimum of 90% attendance and/or a performance evaluation. Calculations of CEUs are based on one-tenth of the total course hours.

Emergency Closings

In case of an emergency the President of Laredo Community College has the authority to dismiss classes on a case by case basis without prior notice.

Family Education Rights and Privacy Act

In compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, the College may release information classified as "directory information" to the gen-eral public without the written consent of the student. Directory information includes student's: (1) name; (2) address; (3) telephone number; (4) email address; (5) weight and height of members of athletic teams; (6) participation in officially recognized activities and sports; (7) dates of attendance; (8) edu-cational institution most recently attended; and (9) other similar information, including major field of study and degrees and awards received.

A student may request that all or any part of the directory information be withheld from the public by giving written notice to the Enrollment and Registration Services Center at the Fort McIntosh or South campus. If no request is filed, direc-tory information is released upon written inquiry. No telephone inquiries are acknowledged; all requests must be made in person. No transcript or academic record is released without written consent from the student except as specified by law.

POFI1024:Introduction to Microsoft Office Word 2010 consists of processing terminology, editing functions, formatting, and spe-cial text options. You will be able to create, format, and edit basic business documents using Word software. Learn buttons, creating and saving files.

Introduction to Excel

ITSW1022:Beginner level of Microsoft Office Excel 2010 con-sists of learning terminology, program parameters, display characteristics, formatting features, mathematical functions, and printing. Also be able to understand basic concepts of spreadsheet functions, create formulas, charts, and graphs, and generate reports.

Introduction to Basic Computer Applications

ITSW1021:This course is an introduction to computer hardware, software, and procedures. You will receive instruction on Internet, word processing, and basic computer program fundamentals.

Specialized Computer Applications

ITSW1058: This course consists of learning Microsoft Office Excel 2010, Microsoft Word 2010, Microsoft Publisher 2010, and Microsoft PowerPoint 2010. You will gain a basic under-standing of these programs by creating documents pertaining to each application.

BUSG1005:In this class, you will learn the process of providing good customer service. This includes recognizing the customer base and the identification and fulfillment of customer needs. Describe types of customers; identify needs of customers; and determine strategy to provide quality customer service. Telephone etiquette, listening skills and dealing with difficult people also are covered in this course.

FOOD MANAGER CERTIFICATION

Food Manager Protection Certification (Taught in English)

RSTO1041:This course is the 16-hour certification program for owners and operators of establishments who prepare and serve food to the public. Topics include methods of proper food storage, techniques for sanitary food service preparation, employee sanitation, pest control, accident prevention, housekeeping management, sanitation regulations and standards, and facility conditions that contribute to outbreaks of food-borne disease. Upon successful completion of this course and passing the National Restaurant Association exam, the student will receive a ServSafe certificate which is valid for 5 years. Prerequisite:

Students must have a minimum 7th-grade reading level.

Electrician Recertification

ELPT2000:This course meets the electrical licensing requirements and state laws and rules that regulate the conduct of licensed electricians and apprentices as required by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. It includes a review of the latest edition of the National Electrical Code including notable Code revisions and 2012 NFPA 70E Safety (rule 73.25(b)(3)) requirements. This course is required to be completed every year by electricians and apprentices in order to improve student pro-ficiency and learn updates in the NEC. Students must provide a photo ID, TDLR electrician license card, and bring their own NEC 2008 book, calculator, pen and paper.

TEXAS SERVSAFE FOOD HANDLER CERTIFICATE

The Texas ServSafe Food Handler training program is a complete solution that delivers consistent food safety training to employ-ees. The course covers the following five topics: Basic Food Safety, Personal Hygiene, Time and Temperature, Cleaning and Sanitizing and Preventing Cross-Contamination. The Texas ServSafe Food Handler program is accredited by the Texas Department of State Health Services to meet all regulatory requirements so employees can receive a food handler’s permit. The program includes an employee guide.

Introduction to Forklift Operations

OSHT1010:This course is designed for the beginner forklift operator; you will learn to reduce powered industrial truck accidents by creating safety awareness in lift truck operations. The focus is on efficient and safe lift truck operations and the OSHA training requirements for powered industrial trucks. If you have less than 6 months experience, this course is required before enrolling in CNSE1003.

Forklift Operator Certification

CNSE1003:This course is designed to meet OSHA training requirements for the experienced forklift operator. Forklift instruction and hands-on training includes: maneuvering, stability, truck design, instrumentation, controls, accessories, pre-use inspection, warehouse safety, written exam, and a driving proficiency exam. Students are required to have a minimum of 6 months experience or have completed OSHT1010 prior to enrolling in this course. A Forklift Operator License that is valid for 3 years will be issued upon successful completion.

Hazardous Material Transport

EPCT2004: A course in the transport of hazardous materials and dangerous goods to meet the requirements of the U.S. Department of Transportation Title 49 CFR, Sub Part H Sections 172.700-172.704, commonly referred to as Docket HM-126F. This docket sets the training requirements for employees and employers involved in all modes of transportation. Upon suc-cessful completion of this course the student will receive a 3-year license.

Safety and Accident Prevention in the Workplace

OSHT1003:In this course, the student will learn to recognize and evaluate hazards in the workplace. They also will learn how to demonstrate correct selection and safe use of personal protective equipment. The student also will understand the importance of performing tasks safely and maintain a situation in compliance with OSHA regulations.

OSHT1019:In this course, the student will learn safety compliance focusing on fabrication/maintenance in various manufac-turing and fabrication environments. This course will provide you with the latest safety techniques if you serve the fabrication, industrial maintenance and manufacturing industries. You will learn the safe operation of electro-mechanical equipment including hand and power tools used by industry.

BASIC LIFE SUPPORT

CPR Basic Life Support for Everyone

EMSP1020:In this course, the student will receive respiratory lifesaving skills (choking and near-drowning) and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children, and infants. The student also will learn the appropriate use of an AED training device. This course meets requirements of the American Red Cross, and upon successful completion of this course, the stu-dent will receive a wallet-size certificate, which is valid for one year. This course is designed for the community and work-place setting. Learn and develop valuable lifesaving skills.

Dental Assisting

DNTA1053: The Dental Assisting Program (DAP) prepares students for entry level positions in one of the fastest growing health care occupations – Dental Assisting. Students will learn dental assisting techniques with the emphasis on four-handed den-tistry and utilization of tray setups for general practice and specialty procedures. Upon successful completion of program train-ing, students will receive a certificate of completion from the Continuing Education Department, will earn CPR certification from the American Heart Association and will be authorized to take the Dental Assistant state certification exam from the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners. Clinical rotations are scheduled on 4 Saturdays. See below for clinical dates. Students must be at least 18 years or older and possess a high school diploma or GED. What are your entrance requirements?

Continuing Education courses have no entrance

requirements; however, some courses may have

prerequisites.

Where and how can I pay for my classes?

Classes can be paid at the Bursar’s Office in

Memorial Hall at the Fort McIntosh Campus or at the

Billy Hall Jr. Student Center at the South Campus. You

can pay for your classes with cash, check, money

order or with a credit card. Full payment is required at

the time of registration.

What if my class is cancelled?

We will make every effort to notify the students by

phone or email.

What if I have to report a name or phone

number change?

Any changes must be processed through the

Continuing Education Department; it is important that

all of your information be current.

What happens if I withdraw from a class?

To receive a full refund, you (the student) must

with-draw from a class prior to its start date. Absolutely no

refunds will be allowed after the start date or first

class meeting.

What do I receive upon completing the

course requirements?

Completion is based on 90% attendance, and upon

doing so you will receive a Certificate of Completion,

stating that you have met the course requirements.

Certifications and licenses earned may be picked up

at the Eloy Garcia Building, Room 102, 14 days after

the class has ended. You also will receive Continuing

Education Units (CEUs) that are recorded in your

col-lege transcript; CEUs are calculated as one-tenth of

the total course hours.
