passenger InformatIon

Our passenger and customer information management (PaCIM) is the answer to the requests by the public trans-port market for open and multi-modal communications

platform.

This platform is modular and offers transport operators the chance to create an individual passenger manage

-ment system to suit their require-ments. Passengers at

stations can be shown current departure information,

information about connections (including deviations and information to maintain connections) and even entertain

-ment.

PaCIM DDMS

(Data Distributed Management System) - data hub

The data hub is the central part of the data exchange across systems for passenger information. Based on a

modern database concept, the information which is

re-ceived from the VDV service is collated and verified with existing information and then sent to update the con

-nected systems.

Pacim INF – Railway information system

PaCIM INF is our core module for passenger information

in the railway sector. The basis for the passenger infor -mation is the annual timetable which can be uploaded

via an interface or can be entered with the integrated timetable planning tool. From this information the daily timetable will be generated. All trains with their associ

-ated announcements and advertisements can be viewed and edited in various ways. In addition to the system con -trolled interfaces, PaCIM can also use GPS based data

from the trains to calculate times and positions.

PaCIM DPI – dynamic passenger information

Based on the VDV-interface, passenger information will be sent to the displays using the DPI-System. This can be

done with different display technologies, with solar

pow-ered systems and with other data connection systems.

Pacim – Passenger and

customer inFormation management

Pacim INF (Railway Information System) is based on

the information system which is used by Deutsche Bahn. PaCIM provides passengers at all connected stations with current information about the next connections and pos

-sible deviations from the normal timetable. This informa

-tion will be provided on display or audio systems. With PaCIM, the user of the passenger information sys

-tem has the maximum support in his daily work. The user always has an overview of the actual situation and can add changes directly into the system.

The basis of PaCIM is the annual timetable which can be uploaded online or using systems external to PaCIM. Out

of this, the daily schedule will be generated by the sys-tem and information will be automatically updated using

the available interfaces. Sources of information are active train tracking, external distributors, IRIS-smtp, various VDV-interfaces, GPS based positioning systems (PaCIM TRAC) or several other possible sources. The user can add to or amend this information. All data from the different sources will be linked together according to its priority.

Changes in the operating schedule will be noticed and

will be provided out of the entirety of the available data

to the affected information systems at the stops or

sta-tions.

sYstem overvIew

PaCIM is based on the latest hardware and software

technologies. Depending on system needs, configura

-tions from a single server up to a highly available clus

-ter are provided. System software uses Windows-Server 2008, thereby ensuring a homogeneous integration in an available network/active directory structure. The primary database system used is Postgre SQL.

PaCIM is modular is design. Because of this modular structure and the underlying relational database, expan

-sions or customer specified additions are possible with

-out having a great influence on the rest of the system.

Very good readability in all weather conditions and an individual representation of information – these are the features of LCD display systems from BMG MIS.

Every type of information, that is important for passen -gers and commuters at stations and stops, can be

de-signed individually with the high resolution LCD displays to the parameters of the customer. This technology is highly energy efficient, capable of being read in sunlight and can be built to best suit internal or external areas. With these display systems we also think about the envi

-ronment. Equipped with LED backlighting and integrated energy management, these displays reduce the environ

-mental impact and the operating costs.

• Individual display of information

• Long lifetime of 200,000 hours

• Sunlight readable

• Integrated energy management

• Special sizes and special formats

• Individual display arrangement to custo

-mer specification

• Solutions for indoor and outdoor use

• Flexible information display

• Illustration of simple information

• Ticker support

• Cost optimised solution

tft-teChnologY

With our TFT display systems, the customer defines the display size or with the cluster-displays the number of displays. Depending on the requests, we develop for our

customers a complete system for indoor or outdoor use

using high class TFT panels from well-known manufac -turers,

With our special size TFTs we also have the option to cre

-ate customer specific TFT sizes – for example where there are size limitations in height or length, or just to create a visual highlight.

Any information such as journey connections,

high-reso-lution graphics, videos, advertisements, news ticker and a lot more can be shown using this display technology.

ChlCd teChnologY

With the product group “Geameleon” we have devel -oped a new generation of display systems, which barely

need any power to display information. Geameleon is

based on a bistable ChLCD (Cholesteric Liquid Crystal

Displays) display technology. ChLCDs are reflective dis

-play systems in which the image pixels are visible purely due to the reflection of incident light.

Depending on their needs, users can choose between

monochrome and colour displays. These high-resolution displays allow for a flexible portrayal of text, coloured graphics, pictograms and logos. These displays were es -pecially designed for outdoor areas and are readable in any light and weather conditions – including direct

sun-light.

• Bi-stable display technology

• Monochrome and colour layouts

• High resolution display

• Very low power consumption

led-teChnologY

With the LED display systems we can provide customer specific solutions for showing simple information. With the use of high quality components, we have also looked to design an energy efficient product. A bright

-ness sensor adjusts the LED display bright-ness automat

-ically to the surrounding light level and weather condi

-tions to guarantee optimal viewing of the display. Our LED systems are – like the LCD display technology – capable of scrolling tickers. They are available in different LED colours.

advertising and inFormation disPlay

Our advertising and information systems provide a major contribution to the attractiveness of a “travel friendly“ station.

As a highly frequented area, the station environment of

-fers an optimal platform for advertising companies for out-of-home advertising. To make this advertising dy

-namic attractive, BMG MIS uses different display technol

-ogies such as TFT systems for indoor and semi-outdoor use or our Geameleon-display systems for outdoor use.

tft monItor sYstems /

tft totems

With TFT systems, information can be displayed in both

indoor and outdoor environments. Outdoor TFT systems can also be used in direct sunlight. A laminated safety

glass which is optically coated on both sides and for

out-door use a rugged enclosure (IP54) protects the TFT dis

-play from harsh environmental conditions.

Due to the high resolution of the TFT displays, variable font sizes, graphics and video material can be shown very clearly. This offers the customer a flexible display medium for timetables, advertising etc...

TFT Cluster

For large display panels we can arrange (at the request of

the customer) TFTs together in a cluster and hold them in an enclosure or fit them directly on a wall with support rails. The TFT cluster is also available in combination with a static header.

geameleon

The high resolution colour Geameleon large display panel is also designed for the outdoor environment and is an

optimal solution to show information on a station

con-course or other areas in the outdoor environment. It can

be used as a guidance system for passengers, as a

depar-ture display or for advertising.

Due to the modular structure of the display, the operator

can define an individual display size. To date, the largest installed display of this type is 2 metres high and 3.65 metres wide.

With our new content management software, informa -tion also can be shown combined across the whole

dis-play board or be partially updated. So for example the operator can inform his passengers with travel informa

-tion in conjunc-tion with special messages or advertising.

pts medIa suIte

With the PTS Media Suite we provide the operator of

display systems with software tools which can be used

to easily manage the display content. Combined images of passenger information, pictures, videos, advertisement etc. can be created easily with the editor and be shown in

a single situation or combined for different target groups

large Panels For arrival

and deParture times

Blue background and white text – is the way our LCD

display systems already show passengers the departure times of trains, suburban trains and subways in many

worldwide locations.

With a clearly arranged layout, our large display panels

guide passengers to their trains and inform them reliably

about their journey times and more. With the arrange -ment of our large panels we attach great importance to

achieve individual customer preferences. So for example, information can be highlighted in colour, TFT systems

can be integrated into the header or other features as

required. The display size also can be defined by the cus

-tomer due to the modular structure.

• Individual design

• Different colour layouts

• Combination with TFT-technology

• Modular platform

• Energy management

• Ticker support

Application:

Departure and arrival display, timetable display, information panel, advice and special notices

Location:

Waiting rooms, entrance area, interchanges, station halls

Our large panels are constructed for outdoor and/or in-door use and are optimally readable – including under

direct sunlight – due to the transflective characteristic. A specially developed energy management system con

-tributes to high environmental performance and lower operating costs.

Location:

Stations, interchanges, small stations, station areas, platform areas

Our information systems were developed specifically for

small local stations where station staff are generally not

available. Therefore we attach great importance on acces

-sible traveling with the two-sense-principle (see and hear) To ensure the highest possible accessibility, our information

displays are mounted at heights which make it easier for

wheelchair users to read the travel information. In addition to the visual display, the information systems have a text-to-speech* module. If needed, this function can be activated by pressing a button which has large text and is brightly coloured.

With these systems the customer can also create individual

information systems and can choose between the features

which are needed for his application. An example is the acti

-vation of a service call with the connection to a control room which can provide an information service for the travelers. The customer also has the choice between different display

technologies, such as TFT, bistable ChLCD or transflective LCD. In connection with the ChLCD technology, the sys

-tem can also be run in a self-sufficient manner using solar energy.

*text-to-speech

With text-to-speech each piece of textual information can be converted into speech. By pushing the button, an acous

-tic text file (speech synthesis) will be created and the con
