A solid foundation to build on

The biotech and pharmaceutical industries face major challenges to optimize R&D costs and move new drugs to market faster. Patent expiration for drugs, dwindling pipelines, a shift to biologicals with increased R&D costs, and shrinking margins due to pricing pressures are the key factors driving companies to rethink their overall strategies.

There is a clear and growing need within the pharmaceutical industry to simplify operating models. More than ever, mergers and acquisitions continue to drive fragmented systems and processes, as companies increasingly look to outsource as a complementary strategy. These partnerships will help reduce operating costs and improve productivity, drive consistent quality, and supporting knowledge-based business decisions.

As a service provider, Life Sciences Services has fully aligned itself to this transformation in the industry by developing comprehensive outsourcing solutions backed by lean strategies that help customers achieve increased efficiency and improved profitability.

Biotech and pharmaceutical companies need to form more strategic partnerships with suppliers that deliver value-added products and services across their business. Only by providing robust and resilient solutions can we deliver what our customers need today and will demand well into the future.

the data, tools, and resources they need for informed decision-making, thereby creating the lab-of-the-future. With a clear understanding of your what assets, where they are located, and whether they are utilized at the capacity your organization demands, you can truly drive OPEX and CAPEX optimization, and enhance the productivity of your lab.

The current transformation in R&D demands an optimized lab environment in which people, assets, and research processes and development methods interact seamlessly. The ultimate goal is to achieve maximum efficiency with minimum waste through integration and optimization of these components. GE Healthcare developed Lab Optimization Solutions to provide our customers with

Make the right move

Laboratory Asset Management Assessment (LAMA)

A change of service model is a huge step for any company, and one that requires accurate data to enable informed decision-making. By generating a multi-faceted analysis of your business, we can formulate the optimal strategy for your organization, enabling executive decision-makers to drive change in a robust and sustainable manner. This low-risk strategy is based on a detailed overview that allows us to tailor a model to the specific needs of your organization and is fast and easy to implement.

The first step in the transition to optimized life cycle asset management is a LAMA assessment – a consultative process that utilizes the power of data to develop a pro-active gap analysis that compares the existing service model to a fully optimized laboratory service program.

LAMA:

• Assesses your sites in terms of current expenditure, asset inventory, and service quality

• Eliminates personal bias and skewed perception by delivering purely factual data • Provides an actionable evaluation of your laboratory asset management

program to achieve optimal results

• Compares your program with industry benchmarks and best practices

• Makes recommendations based on gathered data that can inform the next phase • Identifies potential ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ savings

“LAMA was an invaluable exercise. It would have been impossible for our organization to conduct this analysis internally, especially in this timeframe. LAMA helped us articulate the business case to senior leadership on how best to optimize the current service model.

The report presented findings clearly and provided us with the information needed to take that next step. This assessment was well worth the investment.” Senior Director, Operational Excellence

or obsolete assets

Unlocks hidden capital from your obsolete or under-utilized assets

Life Cycle Asset Management (LCAM) goes far beyond conventional multivendor equipment maintenance and repair, to provide a comprehensive life cycle asset management portfolio that improves productivity and reduces costs, regardless of manufacturer. In addition to providing true transparency, this flexible, modular program generates information and knowledge that aid decision-making and facilitates smart CAPEX control.

LCAM minimizes complexity by creating a single point-of-contact that not only serves to reduce your purchase, installation, and service costs, but also shortens response times and enhances regulatory compliance. The various modules are implemented in a targeted approach that enables strategic decisions to be made with a minimum of risk, producing a complete solution that streamlines the entire life cycle, from start to finish.

“These days, productivity is everything in our business. Knowing that our scientists were losing valuable time due to service-related issues wasn’t helping. We looked at ways we could consolidate by purchasing from fewer suppliers. GE Healthcare was the only company that was happy to manage everything, regardless of the OEM, with an unbeatable flexibility that allows our teams to focus on what they are best at.”

Bring big ideas to life

Drive scientist‘s productivity

By implementing an on-site asset management program, a large Japanese pharma business saved over 2,250 hours of hands-on time by its scientists. This not only generated financial savings but ultimately enabled the scientists to focus their efforts on drug development, which in turn improved staff morale.

Do more with less

Gaining an understanding of the overall asset portfolio – which assets are used, where, and to what degree – provides control over CAPEX and maximizes asset utilization, while allowing you to save on unnecessary capital expenditure and maintenance. GE`s proprietary technologies enable customers to monitor asset utilization and provide overall total cost of ownership (TCOO), aiding decision-making on future capital expenditures.

Do things smarter

Our extensive experience allows us to develop asset management solutions for complex operating models that include hundreds of vendors and thousands of equipment items. By bringing assets and operations sharply into focus, we can apply intelligent management programs and leading performance tools to help right-size operations, consolidate contracts, and achieve economies of scale that can maximize productivity and profitability.

Improve decision-making with data-driven

insights

A major US biotech company experiencing rapid growth, which had no centralized strategy for tracking its assets and service costs, invested in an inventory and spend assessment. The data obtained during the process revealed a range of possibilities for cutting costs and increasing utilization and efficiency. Over 1 million US dollars in savings were identified, and the customer was able to implement the right program for its organization.
