150 people took part in the CoR EPP Working seminar “Innovation Regions and Cities for Territorial Development”.
The themes were Open Innovation and Digital Entrepreneurship.
The workspace integrated physical and virtual realities. Some participants worked
simultaneously in the conference room and the virtual reality.
The Workshop consisted of the following steps:
•Keynote and panel presentations
•Presenting the background material and slides from the virtual environment
•Writing down notes and observations
•Adding the contributions from the audience, images and other material to the virtual environment in real time •Finalizing the topics for voting
•Voting on topics

EPP-CoR Task Force on Europe 2020:
The Link between Regional
Policy and Innovation
The Europe 2020 Strategy is both an overarching structural reform plan and a crisis exit strategy. The rapidly changing global context means that the EU must become a smart, sustainable and inclusive economy. The strategy will therefore help Europe’s regions to achieve high levels of employment, productivity and social cohesion.
The EPP-CoR Task Force on Europe 2020 is run under the chairmanship of Markku Markkula and consists of seven political coordinators focusing on the seven flagship
initiatives. Through the Task Force, we aim to scrutinise the Member States’ work, examine the possibility of greater dialogue between local and regional authorities and central governments, and ultimately have an impact on the National Reform Programmes.
To ensure greater ownership of the strategy, the EPP-CoR Group is committed to close cooperation with the European Parliament, European Council and European Commission as well as with regional and local authorities, national
parliaments, social partners and other stakeholders.
The outcomes of the Open Days workshop 10A16 are further developed by the Task Force as part of the
process to create new implementation openings for the EU programme period 2014-2020.

Admino Technologies
Founded in 2003, Admino Technologies is a company of high-tech professionals with an established history in
advanced information technology projects and applications. Currently most of our business is focused on projects and hosting based on realXtend technology. In addition to the hosting services, Adminotech offers expert services in virtual reality project production, from requirements engineering to programming.
Meshmoon
The Meshmoon online virtual reality hosting system is based on on-demand cloud hosting technology, providing reliability and scalability with a flexible pricing range. The Meshmoon worlds are accessed with the Rocket viewer, which is
basically a commercial version of the open source realXtend Tundra software.
The Meshmoon service is accessible to visitors without any costs (unless the scene owner wishes to charge something), all that is needed for access is the free Rocket viewer. Currently there are a number of open worlds for everyone to visit and their numbers are constantly on the rise.

Towards Regional
Information Modeling
(CdR 104/2010 fin)
OPINION of the Committee of the Regions on the DIGITAL AGENDA FOR EUROPE, approved by the CoR Plenary on 6 October 2010
“Committee of the Regions (CoR) points out that
management of the built environment and urban planning are sectors with a high impact on the local economy as well as on the quality of the living environment.
New developments in information management can play a crucial role in achieving the goal of establishing an ambitious new climate regime. Building Information Modelling (BIM) is actively used in facility management to provide a digital representation of the physical and functional characteristics of a facility.
The concepts of BIM should be extended to regional and urban planning. It could then serve as a shared knowledge resource for an area, forming a reliable basis for life-cycle analysis, user-driven business process development and value-creating decision-making.”
Energizing urban ecosystems Task 4 (Regional information modelling)
The research led by Dr Hannu Hyyppä produces the overall concept, methodologies and descriptions of how a regional information model based on the newest digital technology operates. Research will link infrastructure and the present digitalization of buildings in T3 together with the operational activity planning. The outcome is the T3-wide technical demonstration of regional information modeling.
Energizing urban ecosystems Task 5 (Visualized virtual reality)
This research lead by Tommi Hollström Adminotech Ltd focuses especially on creating a new working culture for virtual worlds: a realXtend based social media and virtual reality platform and 3D virtual software applications.

The Energizing Urban
Ecosystems
Research Program
The Energizing Urban Ecosystems is a research program coordinated by RYM (Strategic Centre for Science,
Technology and Innovation for Built Environment in Finland). The program realizes the RYM’s strategic research agenda through far-reaching, collaborative and multidisciplinary research work done jointly by companies, universities and research centres.
The duration of the EUE is 2012-2015 while the estimated research volume (both industrial research and academic research) is 20 M euros.
The program focuses on studying the core elements of pioneering urban ecosystems, which can combine advanced technical solutions (engineering, digital, mobile and
processes) and complementary social systems (for innovation, learning and accumulation of knowledge) that result in competitive business models and solutions.
