LAST MINUTE INFORMATION ! You are cordialy invited to join the

6 th Symposium on Pavement Characteristics of Roads and Airfields – SURF 2008, that will be held in Portorose, SLOVENIA,

from October 20 th to 22 nd

Every 4 years PIARC organizes an international symposium on pavement surface characteristics for roads and airfields, so called SURF events. The first symposium was held at State College,

Pennsylvania, USA in June 1988, followed by symposia in Germany (Berlin, June 1992), New Zealand (Christchurch, September 1996), France (Nantes, June 2000), and Canada (Toronto, June 2004). The success and interest shown in these symposia has encouraged PIARC Technical Committee TC 4.2 “Road/Vehicle Interaction” and the Slovenian PIARC National Committee to organize the 6th

International Symposium on Pavement Surface Characteristics of Roads and Airfields in 2008. SURF 2008 will be held in Slovenia

The themes for the SURF 2008 Symposium reflect recent technological developments in pavement surface characteristics, and are of interest to researchers and practitioners. The development of new technologies in recent years has increased the amount of available data, offering new possibilities for road managers to accomplish their work more efficiently. The most recent developments in road assessment, along with expected future developments, are the key themes of the Symposium.

The Slovenian PIARC National Committee, Technical Committee TC 4.2 “Road/Vehicle Interaction”, and the World Road Association-PIARC are providing the best opportunity to discuss the latest developments in pavement surface characteristics of roads and airfields. This is a unique opportunity for specialists to share their knowledge and experiences.

Slovenia’s central location in Europe makes it easily accessible from all parts of Europe and wider. Slovenia is often called the green heart of Europe. It lies between Austria, Italy, the Panonian Plain and the warm and clear Adriatic Sea. Alpine peaks in the northwest with their glacial valleys, gorges, waterfalls and lakes appeal to visitors looking for peace in the mountains as well as to sports climbers, skiers, canoeists and others in search of relaxation or excitement. The coastal zone is rich with history and other pleasures to tempt visitors. So there is also a good opportunity to combine sience with pleasure.
