WELCOME GUESTS

We are grateful and blessed to have you worship with us, as God’s family, here at St. Mark’s. When God’s people come togeth-er we are the beating heart of His Church. We come togethtogeth-er to receive His gifts of mtogeth-ercy and grace that sustain our faith and renew our Spirit. When we leave we have the privilege of sharing these gifts with others in our own lives. We hope you can see what a blessing it is to be a part of the heartbeat of God’s people. Enjoy your time, meet some new people, and draw closer to Jesus Christ. ~ Pastor Eric Hauan

RINGING OF THE BELLS ~ WELCOME TO WORSHIP OPENING HYMN: “O Jesus, King of Glory”

O Jesus, King of glory Both David’s Lord and Son! Your rule endures forever; In heaven is Your throne. Help that in earth’s dominions, From pole to farthest pole, Your reign may spread salvation To each benighted soul.

January 10, 2021

First Sunday After the Epiphany

Oh look on me with pity Though I am weak and poor; Admit me to Your kingdom To dwell there, blest and sure. I pray, Lord, guide and keep me Safe from my bitter foes

From sin and death and Satan; Free me from all my woes.

Then let Your Word within me Shine as the fairest star; Keep sin and all false doctrine Forever from me far.

Help me confess You truly And with all Christendom Here hail You King and Savior And in the world to come.

INVOCATION

CONFESSION and ABSOLUTION

P Our help is the name of the Lord,

C who made heaven and earth.

P If You, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand?

C But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are feared.

P Since we are gathered to hear God’s Word, call upon Him in prayer and praise, and receive the body and blood of

our Lord Jesus Christ in the fellowship of this altar, let us first consider our unworthiness and confess before God and one another that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed, and that we cannot free ourselves from our sin-ful condition. Together as His people let us take refuge in the infinite mercy of God, our heavenly Father, seeking His grace for the sake of Christ, and saying: God, be merciful to me, a sinner.

C Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to everlasting life. Amen.

P Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called

and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the (+) Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C Amen.

HYMN: “I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light” (LSB 411 vs 1 & 2)

PRAYER OF THE DAY

P Almighty God, give us grace that we may cast away the works of darkness and put upon ourselves the armor of

light now in the time of this mortal life in which Your Son, Jesus Christ, came to visit us in great humility through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

C Amen.

OLD TESTAMENT: 1 Kings 8:6-13

Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the Lord to its place in the inner sanctuary of the house, in the Most Holy Place, underneath the wings of the cherubim. For the cherubim spread out their wings over the place of the ark, so that the cherubim overshadowed the ark and its poles. And the poles were so long that the ends of the poles were seen from the Holy Place before the inner sanctuary; but they could not be seen from outside. And they are there to this day. There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets of stone that Moses put there at Horeb, where the Lord made a covenant with the people of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt. And when the priests came out of the Holy Place, a cloud filled the house of the Lord, so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord.

Then Solomon said, “The Lord has said that he would dwell in thick darkness. I have indeed built you an exalted

house, a place for you to dwell in forever.

A This is the Word of the Lord.

C Thanks be to God!

EPISTLE: Romans 12:1-5

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the re-newal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.

A This is the Word of the Lord.

C Thanks be to God!

ALLELUIA VERSE

P Alleluia, Alleluia. A great prophet has arisen in our midst.

GOSPEL: Luke 2:41-52

P The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke the 2nd chapter.

C Glory to You, O Lord.

Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up according to custom. And when the feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed

be-hind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it, but supposing him to be in the group they went a day’s journey, but

then they began to search for him among their relatives and acquaintances, and when they did not find him, they re-turned to Jerusalem, searching for him. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his

an-swers. And when his parents saw him, they were astonished. And his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated

us so? Behold, your father and I have been searching for you in great distress.” And he said to them, “Why were you

looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?” And they did not understand the saying that

he spoke to them. And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was submissive to them. And his mother treasured up all these things in her heart.

And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.

P This is the Gospel of the Lord.

C Praise to You, O Christ!

ANNOUNCEMENTS / OFFERING SERVICE OF HOLY COMMUNION

P The Lord be with you.

C And also with you.

P Lift up your hearts.

C We lift them up to the Lord.

P Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

C It is right to give our thanks and praise.

P It is right, good and salutary to always and everywhere to give thanks to you, almighty God, creator of heaven and

earth. Before the mountains were brought forth, or you had formed the earth, from everlasting to everlasting, you alone are God. You created light out of darkness and brought forth life on the earth. You formed us in your image and breathed into us the breath of life. When we turned away, and our loved failed, your love remained steadfast. You delivered us from captivity, and spoke to us through your prophets. And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven. We laud and praise your holy name and join this unending song:

Holy, holy, holy Lord God of Sabaoth adored;

Heav’n and earth with full acclaim shout the glory of Your name. Sing hosanna in the highest, sing hosanna to the Lord;
