Don DeCinque
President/CEO’s Message
On January 28, 2012, APCU hosted its 87th Annual Meeting. We were pleased to welcome over 850 members to the meeting. We were fortunate to have had a beautiful spring-like day – sunny, cloudless blue skies and warm – certainly not a typical January day in Georgia.
In our reports to the attendees we noted that 2011 was another year of À nancial turmoil as the economy remained unsettled and interest rates hit lows not seen since the Great Depression. While the credit union felt its share of the impact from this ongoing economic downturn, we reported that Atlanta Postal Credit Union recorded another year of solid performance. Despite the downturn, APCU ended the year with assets over $1.9 billion and served the
À nancial needs of almost 100,000 members.
In the face of the challenging environment today, the credit union remains well capitalized, with an average capital ratio that is considerably higher than that which is required by regulators. This means that the credit union is well positioned to do what we do best: help people in times of need.
In normal times, the difference between credit unions and other players in the À nancial marketplace isn’t quite as obvious to most people. In the current economy, the credit union difference becomes more apparent. While other
À nancial institutions focus on what is best for stockholders, the credit union continues to demonstrate its commitment to helping members realize their À nancial goals. Whether those goals include reducing debt, buying a new or pre-owned vehicle, purchasing a new home or vacation home, saving for higher education, or planning for retirement; APCU stands ready and able to assist members through every major event in their lives.
The Board of Directors, volunteers, managers, and staff remain dedicated to keeping APCU a safe, sound, and strong credit union. We want you to feel conÀ dent that APCU will always put your best interests in the forefront. The year 2011 demonstrated once again that the values upon which Atlanta Postal Credit Union was established – long-term stability, À scal strength, integrity, and service excellence – remain a solid foundation for growth regardless of the economic climate.
We thank you for your business and the opportunity to serve you and your family.
As part of APCU’s extensive Youth Program, each year we join thousands of credit unions nationwide to celebrate National Credit Union Youth Week. While Youth Week runs from April 22nd – 28th this year, at APCU, we’ll be celebrating Youth “Month” during the entire month of April! The theme for 2012 is “Be a Credit Union Super Saver!”, and we invite you and your youngster(s) to be part of the celebration.
Here’s how:
Simply make a deposit of $25 or more into an existing youth account, or open a new youth membership anytime during April 2012. Every young member who makes a $25 or more deposit to his/her APCU account during Youth Month will receive a super saver bracelet with a special message from the credit union.* It’s that easy!
Every member counts at APCU, and our young members are no exception. Please join us as we celebrate Youth Month, April 1, 2012 through April 30, 2012, by introducing all the members of your family, including those 24-years old and younger, to the beneÀ ts of credit union membership. Remember, credit union membership is a gift only you can give and it lasts a lifetime.
For more information, contact us at (404) 768-4126
or Toll-free at (800) 849-8431.
* One super saver bracelet per Primary Share Account. Primary account owners must be between the ages of 0-24. Deposits must be received and posted to the account between April 1, 2012 and April 30, 2012.
