Recruitment practices (for Vacation Programmes/Mini-pupillages and Training Contracts/Pupillages) vary from employer to employer. Generally applications should be made earlier rather than later: for vacation work, several months in advance; for Pupillage, about 1 to 2 years beforehand. Training Contracts with large law firms should be sought over 2 years in advance of your desired start date, while the Department of Justice normally conducts its legal trainee recruitment several months prior to the commencement of the PCLL. year.

This timetable is provided by way of guidance only. No liability is accepted for reliance on the information provided below. Most law firms have one intake of Trainee Solicitors each year (in Aug/Sep) and will interview all their vacation students (and others) for Training Contracts. Therefore when to apply for a vacation placement depends on when you will join as a Trainee Solicitor.

* Please visit the websites of: The Law Society of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, The University of Hong Kong and The Chinese University of Hong Kong to ensure the new entry requirements for the PCLL courses can be satisfied (particularly for the overseas law students).

Practice areas For 25 years, O’Melveny & Myers has taken part in Asia’s transformation into a center of global business growth and investment. We feature top-of-class corporate, M&A, private equity, capital markets, restructuring and finance, competition, and dispute resolution practitioners, and are recognized as a market leader in Asia. The O’Melveny network spans 16 offices across the globe, including seven within Asia located in Hong Kong, mainland China, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Indonesia. In Asia, it is Hong Kong that enjoys a lynchpin status for our practice, as Hong Kong is vital to our firm’s China practice, our Singapore and Southeast Asia practices, and has important connections to our Japan and Korea practices, thereby helping to bring all of our practices together. Young lawyers in our Hong Kong office gain exposure to a variety of practice areas and geographies, usually working on matters that for our clients are their most important efforts in Asia, if not cutting edge transactions in their own right. Whether it is a company seeking an IPO or M&A, a major global institution undergoing restructuring or insolvency involving distressed acquisitions, financing or litigation, a company seeking in or outbound expansion requiring corporate and tax advice, dispute resolution, or white collar or espionage investigations, O’Melveny is a high energy law firm that always seeks the best outcomes for our clients. We seek high energy young lawyers to join us in this effort.
