CFE Installation MANUAL
Applicable to:
CFE with CFE-HU cable.
To install the CFE in your Volvo, using the CFE-HU connection set, a few simple steps are to be taken.
Pre requirements;
- Car ignition is in position OFF.
- CFE has been configured with the CFE Updater software - ONLY for Volvo S60,V70,XC70,S80!
- IF your car is equiped with a HU-1205, please inform us in advance, we need to CHANGE the CFE-HU cableset for you!
- Assuming that owners of a HU-450, 650 and 850 will have a car of 2005 and up, this manual focusses on owners of a HU-601,603,801, and 803!!
Need to know:
The CFE-HU cable is special made. It can NOT be used for other purposes or with other devices. It can NOT be replaced with a cable looking like it, it defintely has a different pin-out! ONLY replace with the original VolvoTech CFE-HU cables!!
NOTE: There is an additional connector mounted on the HU-CFE cableset. It is white-colored and can be used in case other equipment needs POWER.
(For example the iMIV frontmount sets will require such connector. To avoid triple or even more connection sets, VolvoTech decided to combine those cables!)
Steps :
Open the pen-holder with a plastig fishbone or spoon. (Rather NOT use a metal device to open, it might damage your interiour!)
Connects to : the CFE Connects to: the HU
Connects to:
Optional (!) additional equipment mounted near the HU. (For example iMIV) Connects to: the original harness (connector removed from HU)

Remove the 2 torx screws from the “airco panel”.
(Be careful not to drop them, maybe use some tape or put something below them to avoid them dropping into your gearshift box below!)
Then remove the plate around the gearshifter. (Works the same for a Geartronic!) Pull the clips towards to shifter and pull it up.
Then pull forward/tilt the airco panel.
Then after tilting forward, pull towards you the airco panel. (You can pull the cables out slightly).
DO NOT REMOVE THE GREEN CONNECTORS ON THE BACK OF THE AIRCO PANEL!
Then remove the 2 torx screws from the Head unit (HU) and pull forward/tilt the HU.

Remove the HU now, and locate the GREEN connector on the rear of the HU. From the HU, remove that green connector and put that into the female part of the CFE-HU cableset.
Then connect the male part of the CFE-HU cableset into the HU.
Now you can put the DB9 connector of the CFE-HU Cableset trough the back of the place where the HU is mounted, towards the glove compartment to store the CFE there. (RED ARROWS SHOW THE ROUTE, IN THE REAR OF THE HU
PLACEMENT!).
Done!
Now test the CFE.
Once connected, open or close a door and do NOTHING untill the blinkers (-MY2004) have finished blinking (should happen 3 times!).
Then test for example closing the windows with the remote.
If that works, technical connections are in order and ok, time to rebuikd everything. Notes for rebuilding:
- Please be careful with the wiring of the airco panel, they should run below the HU, trough the special made cap in the HU bracket, in between the 2 torx screws of the HU.
- Do not forget to reconnect the sigarette lighter connection, that might have come off!
- Replacing the HU works the same as removing, bet then in reverse. Angle the HU (bottom towards the gearshifter, top of HU put into place first). Then tilt the HU back into its place.
NOTES:
- The CFE will only start “working” the first time, after you close and open a door.
- The CFE’s leds will start lighting (Amber colored) the moment communication with the car is active.
