Drink Drive Awareness Campaign (1)

This drink drive awareness initiative began 8 years ago in the Tauranga area (known as “Project Pisst”).

Aluminium poster frames were installed in 80 local licensed premises (including bars, clubs, restaurants) in men’s

and women’s toilets. A new theme is installed annually to coincide with the festive / New Year season.

In addition, a multi-media advertising campaign is carried out and is customised for the target group.

These projects are endorsed by Police who are involved in distributing promotional material at checkpoints.

If you drive when over the limit you can be fined $4,500, face a term of imprisonment of 3 months and a minimum disqualification from driving of 6 months.

If you cause injury or death while over the breath or blood alcohol limit, or if you are incapableof proper control due to alcohol or drugs, you can be fined up to $20,000, face a term of imprisonment of 5 years and be disqualified from drivingfor a minimumof 1 year. In fact, when you drive with a blood alcohol level at the legal limit, you are three times more likely to be involved in a crash than if you hadn't had a drink.
