EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP —

DO WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE

A friend recently confided in me that although he prayed frequently

each day and was involved heavily in his parish, he did not sense much fruit coming from it all and was le feeling unsa sfied. I assured him he was not alone. I told him of a deceased pastor of mine who had spoken frequently about being in this type of situa on. Even as a priest, he knew all too well of how we can feel like we are simply going through the mo ons. It is precisely at those mes that con nuing to pray and prac cing good stewardship is most important, because it would be easier to simply take a break and risk never coming back. He liked to say, “Do the drill,” meaning just do what needs to be done.

We are all called to be mature disciples who answer the call of Jesus

Christ regardless of the cost. We cannot choose when and where the call will come. We cannot schedule our stewardship in a way that is always most convenient for us. Even when the fruits of our faithful efforts seem hidden from us, we hold to the promise that we are never called to give of ourselves for nothing. God is working through us and in us. No ma er how dry the land may seem, seeds are being planted to yield a harvest greater than we can

ever realize. Stay strong and do the drill! — Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

STEWARDSHIP

GOSPEL MEDITATION

20TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

We are hardwired for wholeness and crave it. When something is broken, we want it fixed. If a part of our body is not working properly, we want it healed. How o en do we find ourselves saying, “I’m red of struggling with this cold, I can’t wait for my surgery to heal, or I want my treatments to make me be er.” Wholeness and healing restore our rela onships and make us free to love as we desire. We know very well how our limita ons, imperfec ons, and brokenness really limit us. They can easily prevent us from being and doing what we want to do.

Our physical and emo onal wounds and maladies are easier to iden fy. If my back hurts, I feel it and know what part of my body needs a en on. If I am feeling intense anger, I can iden fy the emo on and take necessary steps to uncover its cause. Being persistent o en brings greater and quicker results. But will pursuing and even achieving our physical and emo onal healings really be enough? We forget that there is a deeper healing that we seek and desperately need. As we look around at humanity, there are some physical and emo onal wounds and scars that cannot be made whole. They are limita ons that must remain and, for one reason or another, cannot be rec fied. Does this mean that the wholeness and healing that my being longs for is not possible for me? Must I se le with less than what God promises? The answer is no. Ul mately, there is a desire that goes deeper than the physical and emo onal. It is a desire that resides in our soul. What we really seek and thirst for is healing and wholeness for our soul. Inner strength, convic on, focus, grounding, love, hope, faith, courage, determina on, peace, and connectedness are all words that center us on eternity. They direct us to a presence we discover in our core, which is none other than the presence of God. In God, we are healed. When we are

persistent in reaching out to and establishing our rela onship with God, real healing and wholeness begin to happen.

There are some limita ons and some of our brokenness with which we may simply have to live. This does not mean that we have to abandon our journey to wholeness and healing. If we have done our inner soul work, we have worked toward and acquired what and who we ul mately need and desire.

RESPECT LIFE CORNER

What Can I do?

– Matthew 25:45

The Bible commands us to help "the

least of these, my brothers and sisters..." Matthew 25:45. In our culture of death, no doubt the "least of these our brothers and sisters" are the defenseless, innocent children in

the womb who are so incredibly vulnerable. So, here are some ideas of what we can do to make a

real difference:

♦ Join or Support the Respect Life Committee in your Parish.

♦ Start or Support a Gabriel Project in Your Parish.

♦ Meet with and write to your Legisla-tors as a Constituent, Communi-cating the Catholic Church Position on Life Issues.

♦ Support Local Pregnancy Centers by donating Your Time, Talents, and Treasure.

♦ Tell Others about Project Rachel, a Post- Abortion Reconciliation/

Counseling.

♦ Pray for Those Who Have Been Involved in an Abortion.

♦ Pray for the life of all, particularly giving witness outside our local abor-tion clinics.

“From the first moment of existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person– among which is the inviolable right of every innocent human being to life.”

Prayer for Protection

in Time of Pandemic

O Mary

, you always brighten our

path as a sign of salva on and of

hope. We entrust ourselves to you,

Health of the Sick, who, at the Cross,

took part in Jesus’ pain while

remain-ing steadfast in faith.

O loving Mother

, you know what

we need, and we are confident you

will provide fo us as at Cana in

Galilee.

Intercede

for us with your Son

Jesus, the Divine Physician, for those who have fallen ill, for those who

are vulnerable, and for those who have died. Intercede also for those

charged with protec ng the health and safety of others and for those

who are tending to the sick and seeking a cure.

Help us

, O Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the

Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who took upon himself our

sufferings and carried our sorrows, so as to lead us, through the Cross,

to the glory of the Resurrec on . Amen.

Under thy

protec on we seek refuge, O Holy Mother of God. In our

needs, despise not our pe

ons, but deliver us always from all dangers,

O glorious and blessed Virgin.

Amen.
