The Annual Europe &Africa Wakeboard Boat Judging and Officials Seminar in
Belfast, N. Ireland, on March 13 – 15 2015
E&A Wakeboard International Judging Seminars and workshops have been held in the following E&A countries to promote wakeboarding and assist with the development of officials: Nottingham, UK Nemours, France Frankfurt, Germany Barcelona, Spain Brussels, Belgium Rome, Italy Amsterdam, Netherlands Lisbon, Portugal

The Seminar this year is very important, as we have made some major changes to the rules. There are changes to the age categories and we will use the world heat system and the world seeding system.
This year the seminar will be held in Northern Ireland, in Belfast. We very much hope that you will take this opportunity to attend and to develop a range of Wakeboard boat officials.

As with most board sports, wakeboarding uses a subjective scoring system. It is therefore essential that all judges and officials are trained to apply the rules and judging criteria consistently and are equipped with the right tools for the job.
The International Judging program has been in place in IWWF - E&A since 1999 and judges and officials are required to attend the relevant course, to sit examinations and are rewarded by certification.
The seminar is held in a relaxed informal atmosphere, with plenty of time for discussion to help learning together and the sharing of experience as well as meeting new friends and old ones within the wakeboarding community.
Participants may attend the seminar to improve their knowledge and discuss the application of the rules without sitting the examinations.

Judging Examinations - there are 4 levels of examination: -
Assistant Judge - National Level 2 Judge - National Level 1
National Chief Judge - International Level 2 International Chief Judge - International Level 1
Each of the levels allows the judges to progress each year, gaining experience along the way. Typical events that International Level 1 judges are qualified to judge are: -

Questions and answers
Video footage used is broadcast quality material, based on DVD, normal speed is followed by slow motion to enable discussion. Discussion and debate at the seminar is particularly useful to increase learning opportunities, to continually update knowledge and improve consistency among judges.
It is important that judges continue to attend seminars after certification to ensure that your experience is shared and to keep up to date with new developments in judging and scoring.

The calculation session will be held with all officials present, as it is important that judges also know and understand the seeding, scoring system.

An essential part of the seminar for calculators will be the use of the official E&A Wakeboard Calculation program.
It is important for all existing calculators to attend to become familiar with the program and to learn how to use it with ease.

BELFAST CITY
Belfast is the capital and largest city of Northern Ireland. By population, Belfast is the 17th
largest city in the United Kingdom and the second largest on the island of Ireland. It is the seat of the devolved government and legislative Northern Ireland Assembly. Belfast was granted city status in 1888.
Historically, Belfast has been a centre for the Irish linen industry, tobacco production, rope-making and shipbuilding: the city's main shipbuilders, Harland and Wolff, which built the well-known RMS Titanic, propelled Belfast on to the global stage in the early 20th century as the biggest and most productive shipyard in the world.
Today, Belfast remains a centre for industry, as well as the arts, higher education, business, and law, and is the economic engine of Northern Ireland. The city suffered greatly during the period of conflict called "the Troubles", but latterly has undergone a sustained period of calm, free from the intense political violence of former years, and substantial economic and
commercial growth. Additionally, Belfast city centre has undergone considerable expansion and regeneration in recent years, notably around Victoria Square.
Belfast City Centre is bursting with life and energy and has plenty to offer visitors.

The Giant’s Causeway
A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Giant's Causeway is a magnificent, mysterious geological formation on the North East coast of Co Antrim steeped in myth and legend. The setting is a spectacular dynamic coastal landscape of Atlantic waves, rugged cliffs, fascinating
geographical antiquity, secluded bays and magnificent views. The Causeway forms a jagged headland of neatly packed columns that point towards Scotland. Visitors can walk along the basalt columns that are at the edge of the sea, just over 1km from the entrance to the site. They say the Giant's Causeway was the stomping ground of giant Finn McCool, who lived in these parts nearly two thousand years ago. How else can you explain the Chimney stacks that mark his house? The Organ he built for his musical son Oisín? Or the giant boot he left on the shore?

Generally the temperature in March averages 3 – 9 degrees, with rain, so plan appropriate clothes such as jumpers, jackets and raincoats!
