A not-for-profit organization dedicated to the
Potomac InsEtute for Policy Studies
The Potomac Ins.tute for Policy Studies is an
independent, 501(c)(3), not-‐for-‐profit public
policy research ins.tute. The Ins.tute iden.fies
and aggressively shepherds discussion on key
science and technology issues facing our society.
From these discussions and forums, we develop
meaningful science and technology policy
op.ons and ensure their implementa.on at the
intersec.on of business and government.
Center for
Neurotechnology Studies
The Center for Neurotechnology Studies (CNS) is directed by Dr. Jennifer
Buss. CNS provides neutral, in-‐depth analysis of maJers at the intersec.on of neuroscience and technology—neurotechnology—and public policy. The
Center an.cipates ethical, legal, and social issues (ELSI) associated with emerging neurotechnology, and shepherds construc.ve discourse on these issues. It provides a forum for reasoned considera.on of issues both by subject area experts and by the public. The Center partners with the research
community for discourse and consulta.on on ethically sound neurotechnology research and applica.ons. The Center cul.vates and stewards knowledge and discussion on the implica.ons of neurotechnology in academic, administra.ve, entrepreneurial, regulatory, legisla.ve and judicial enterprises. CNS serves as authorita.ve counsel to government agencies pursuing neurotechnology by providing exper.se in the sciences, ethics, law and social policy.

Big Data Affinity Group
Established in 2013 in response to growing interest in data
science and its impact in fields such as energy, medicine,
security, social science, and ethics. Our group aims to foster a
community of data science users and advocates at the
intersec.on of technology and policy across federal agencies. We
organize programs and events for current and alumni Fellows,
focusing on the applica.on of big data ini.a.ves, methods, and
policies in government, private industry, and academia.
