Research News
Healthy Research: obesity and weight
management
Perpetuity Research may be thought of primarily as specialising in crime and security but you may not know that we have an excellent track record in health research. Much of our work has focused on substance misuse but more recently we have undertaken a number of projects in the area of obesity and weight management. Indeed we are currently undertaking an evaluation of an adult weight management programme for one local NHS provider. This follows on from a previous evaluation undertaken for a child weight management programme that highlighted strengths and weaknesses to determine how best to develop the programme. The purpose of this evaluation is to review good practice in weight management programmes, measure quantitative and qualitative outcomes for service users and to consider the value and sustainability of a volunteer mentoring initiative to support service users. A cost benefit analysis is also planned. The evaluation findings will be used to inform if and how the programme could be improved, how effective the model is for managing weight of participants and to inform future tender specifications for an adult weight management service. For further information on our work in health research please contact Charlotte Lawson on [email protected] or 0116 222 5555.

Business Contingency Planning & Disaster
Recovery
With the recent tragic earthquake in New Zealand and the growing unrest across Middle East and North African countries, organisations need to be sure that they are prepared for the more extreme, unusual, and infrequent occurrences that threaten their staff and operations. These include: fires, explosions, terrorist activities such as bomb threats and suspect packages, flooding, product contamination, kidnap and robbery. While it is widely acknowledged that all businesses should have a disaster recovery or contingency plan in place for a major incident at, or in close proximity to, the company the reality is that many don't have a good one or lack one altogether. The recent total power failure in the Channel Tunnel that left passengers in the dark in trains underground with no power, light, or facilities for 12 hours is a classic example. Much has been made of the very beneficial financial savings of those businesses that had detailed plans in place following an attack (the Manchester and Bishopsgate bombings are historical but often quoted examples of best practice). Business continuity is also required more and more by insurance companies in order to secure lower premiums. Effective planning minimises staff injury and downtime, helps to maintain staff morale, protects, and even enhances reputation. Perpetuity will help to ensure that you have appropriate crisis and contingency plans in place, so that these can be activated effectively and calmly as soon as an incident occurs including: Analysis assessing threats including the differing risks at various sites and in different countries Policy establishing what constitutes a crisis in the organisation and when plans need to be activated Planning developing appropriate responses for particular types and level of incident Crisis Management Team identifying this team and the responsibilities of individual members Key documents preparing implementation plans and specific action guidelines Key members of staff providing training to personnel who need special preparation Want to find out more? The cost for business contingency planning & disaster recovery would be dependent on the work required. Perpetuity Security Consultancy offer a holistic range of security services internationally, to find out more about how we would develop an approach to meet your specific needs, email [email protected] or phone Ian Hall on 07545 610708.
