I ABOUT GLION INSTITUTE OF HIGHER EDUCATION

Glion Institute of Higher Education is a private Swiss Institution active in education in the field of Hospitality, Tourism, Event, Sports and Entertainment Management, and offers various undergraduate, graduate and post graduate programs up to three and a half years of study.

Located on two different campuses, one in Glion – above the famous resort of Montreux on the shores of Lake Geneva, and one in Bulle – in the heart of the Gruyère region famous for its culinary specialties – GIHE has the unique advantage of offering to its international student body, an ideal, safe an multi cultural educational environment.

II HISTORY

1962 Founding of the Hotel School “Institut International de Glion”. 1977 Name changed to “Centre International de Glion” (CIG).

1985 Founding member of the Swiss Hotel Schools Association (ASEH)

1989 Opening of the “Glion Management Centre” in Bulle (known today as Glion Institute of Higher Education, Bulle Campus).

1993 Signing of the 1st franchise agreement with the European Centre for Tourism Studies Corfu in Greece.

1995 Change of ownership. Mr Jan Huygen, a Glion Alumni was named Chairman and CEO.

2000 Start of the Master’s program and launch of the new Bachelor degree programs.

2001 Accreditation by NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges) – USA.

2001 Creation of the Event, Sport and Entertainment program. 2002 Name changed to Glion Institute of Higher Education.

2002 Change of ownership to Laureate Hospitality Education, a division of Laureate Education Inc. Based in Baltimore (USA), Laureate manages 26 universities in 17 countries and includes some 300'000 students. It is the largest network of international universities in the world.

2006 University level of accreditation: GIHE transited from the “Commission on Technical & Career Institutions” to the “Commission of Institutions of Higher Education” from the New England Association of

IV MISSION

The Glion Institute of Higher Education offers management-focused programs for the hospitality and other service industries. With an emphasis on both didactic and craft-based learning, GIHE is European in its outlook, Swiss in its work ethos, American in its educational approach and multi-national in its student body.

All programs emphasize the development of generic thinking skills, the understanding of contemporary management theory, and the integration of theory and practice. The “Glion Spirit” and GIHE’s academic programs prepare for rapid progress to international managerial positions.

V ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

As GIHE is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, the following academic programs are based on the American University system. Intakes are every January and August. Please note that the prices below include tuition, accommodation, full board and are valid for July / August 2009 and January / February 2010 intakes.

Hospitality Programs Program 1

“All inclusive”

The fees include such services as tuition, full board, accommodation, accident insurance, leisure and sports facilities and activities, laundry and ironing of professional clothing, administration costs, taxes, administration charges for visa and work permit, membership of the Glion Alumni Association after graduation, professional orientation program and advice, etc.

VI ABOUT THE CAMPUSES Campus location

• Bulle French part – Gruyère Region – Canton of Fribourg (around 1 – 1 ½ hours drive from Geneva airport and 3 hours drive from Zurich airport).

• Glion French part – Above Montreux by the Lac Léman (Geneva Lake) – Canton of Vaud (around 1 hour’s drive from Geneva airport and 3 – 3 ½ hours drive from Zurich airport).

VII ABOUT STUDENTS AND FACULTY

Students nationalities

Over 90 nationalities and 45 different speaking languages on the two campuses. It is our policy to keep a good mix and balance between the various nationalities and continents without privileging one over the others. Age range of students

From 17 up to 39 years old Faculty

There are more than 85 faculty members including full and part time equivalent lecturers as well as professionals who come to enhance the students’ program as visiting lecturers. Faculty members all have academic credentials and often extensive professional experience relevant to their teaching. Additionally they are encouraged to be members of professional associations and required to update their professional knowledge and participate in scholarly research.

Student to lecturer ratio

The student to lecturer ratio varies depending on the program and method of instruction. The overall ratio is around 19 students to 1 faculty member not taking into account the external consultants and visiting professionals

who enhance courses. This figure is based on students on campus and excludes those doing their compulsory internship because specially appointed personnel monitor these students.

X ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF GLION

Today, Glion comprises over 8,000 Alumni spread in over 100 countries. The Alumni Association of Glion (AAG) is a non profit organization and was founded in 1964 to bring together Alumni and maintain on-going contacts. Today it represents an extensive network, and is an ideal tool to create and further professional and personal relationships as well as encourage the exchange of new ideas. The AAG also offers a strong executive Search and Placement Service facilitating the integration of new graduates into the professional world and matching job offers with employment demands.
