INVESTIGATE THE THREE TYPICAL SCENARIOS

Our product and implementation experts can help you start by identifying your business requirements and developing an adoption strategy for SAP S/4HANA. We help you protect your legacy investments, minimize the risk to your day-to-day oper-ations, and reimagine business processes incrementally. You may have legacy enterprise resource planning (ERP) software from a third party or use SAP Business Suite software, for example, but for various reasons you still want to start with a brand-new implementation of SAP S/4HANA. In that case, you start by migrating all transactional and master data to SAP S/4HANA. If you simply want to bring existing SAP soft-ware into the digital world with a system conversion, you start by performing a technical upgrade and migrating all SAP ERP application processing to SAP S/4HANA. If you are just beginning to talk about your digital transfor-mation, you can attend a stand-alone discovery workshop for SAP S/4HANA to help you define and weigh basic goals at the outset. The workshop is free with the purchase of a software license and can help you determine which level of service can best help you reach your goals. You can provide the results to stakeholders in your company to encourage internal approval for the changes you propose.

Once you have the go-ahead internally, we hold discussions to discover value and strategize implementation. Then you work with us to determine whether you will migrate existing struc-tures in a landscape transformation or system conversion – or begin with a completely new installation. The next steps cover the installation and data migration for SAP S/4HANA and the implementation of innovations.

By choosing package 1, you can start small, simply scoping and evaluating your choices and having SAP safeguard the implementation of your partner of choice. With package 2, you obtain the services included in package 1 and also have SAP perform the technical implementation. If you want a fully functional implementation, choose package 3. For the top level of hypercare and innovation, along with all the services of the other packages combined, choose package 4.

Our involvement increases as you move up the ladder. With package 1, for example, we perform planning and safeguarding activities, and you and an optional implementation partner lead the rest of the project. With package 4, SAP is with you as a trusted partner from digitization concept through fully operational SAP S/4HANA software to future co-innovation. If you want help in the early stages of your transformation to a digital enterprise based on SAP S/4HANA, you should start with the plan and safeguard value assurance service package for SAP S/4HANA.

BUILD YOUR ENGAGEMENT FOUNDATION

With the engagement foundation service, your stakeholders across business and IT functions receive assigned contacts to help them plan, execute, and follow up on key actions to be carried out by your SAP support team. A technical quality manager (TQM) serves as your contact for all topics related to your transformation, enforcing your quality gates and holding regular balanced scorecard meetings. He or she also coordi-nates issue resolution and links you to a mission control center if your project team needs the advice of additional experts. If you are not yet using SAP Digital Business Services, this portfolio helps you establish the vital connection between your company and our aftersales team. And we help you configure the latest version of SAP Solution Manager, which gives you access to road maps, process support, and tools for designing, running, maintaining, and optimizing your SAP S/4HANA software.

Scoping Your Project and Defining Quality Gates During engagement setup, you work with us, and with any third-party partners you may have chosen for your project, to define and scope the initial action and service plan for all parties. This plan helps you staff the team across all par - ticipating parties and establish the governance model for the relationships among parties.

Your TQM helps you complete action items and call in the necessary experts from SAP and elsewhere for advice on new requests. Working with the TQM, your project team defines the points – called quality gates – at which you resolve critical issues before advancing further.

SAFEGUARD YOUR IMPLEMENTATION

Using the safeguarding service, you identify factors that could cause issues during your new implementation or your upgrade or migration to SAP S/4HANA. Our technical experts support your project team to help ensure faster response time and throughput; optimal use of hardware resources; increased user satisfaction and productivity; and enhanced in-house expertise for root cause analysis and system health monitoring. Our safeguarding team stays with you until well after your solution is running successfully in production.

Checking for Production Fitness and Success

As part of the safeguarding service, you receive hands-on support and an integration validation from your safeguarding team, which runs a first going-live check four to six weeks out. During deployment into production, the team provides ongoing support and you receive a second going-live check four to six weeks in. Following the second check, you receive a final report that identifies issues and recommends a short-term action plan. PLAN YOUR DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

The service for planning the digital transformation combines information on industry best practices, available solutions, and market trends with information on your business needs to derive a transformation road map specific to your situation. Your TQM orchestrates activities and oversees the execution of your plan.

Designing Your Innovation Strategy

The road map you develop during this service helps support your digital transformation even beyond the project to bring SAP S/4HANA online. Your TQM helps you consider such far-reaching issues as warehousing data, optimizing your business networks, and taking advantage of the Internet of Things and core functions such as central finance.

Returning to the Standard and Analyzing Learning Needs Accumulating a number of customizations in your landscape over the years can hamper your ability to maintain system health and keep pace with innovations in SAP software. Using our back-to-standard analysis and the resulting reports, you can work with us to move to standard functionality where possible.

Through an analysis of your learning needs, you also help ensure that the right in-house know-how comes on board in the proper time frame to support your SAP S/4HANA software implementation in the future.

Conceptualizing an Architecture for Custom-Code Management

In an on-site workshop, you work with us to develop a strategy for managing custom code that extends throughout your development lifecycle. We help you look at how current custom-code tools can support transitioning to standard functionality and evaluate the business impact of your move to SAP S/4HANA. Based on the report comparing your approach to best practices, we help tailor a road map to improve existing custom-code management. Drafting a Technical Architecture

An additional workshop provides you with a technical docu-ment that details an architecture concept based on your data center strategy, scalability requirements, availability require-ments, system sizes, and software change management strategy. It focuses on hardware platforms, operating systems, virtualization solutions, high availability and disaster recovery design, and data center strategy. The document defines the short- and midrange technical infrastructure of your SAP solution, including planned system size.

Planning the Migration for a System Conversion

If you are moving from an existing SAP solution to SAP S/4HANA, we help you construct a system-level transition road map and a high-level project plan. We work with you to evaluate the tech-nical and functional readiness of your current environment and select the best tool and approach for the transition. We identify current and future software change management require-ments and prepare an assessment of specific topics you’ll need to consider in a forthcoming workshop.

Checking Readiness and Following Up

You receive a readiness check during the delivery of either the value and implementation strategy or the migration planning workshop. This assessment delivers a technical dependency analysis and a functional analysis of possible limitations and required simplifications to business processes. We analyze your custom code and other modifications to provide visibility into the level of effort needed to bring them back to standard. If you are just starting to build an SAP software landscape, or if preparatory activities have indicated that transforming an old landscape would be very complex, you may opt to start with a fresh implementation. If so, we can help you develop the template for your new landscape based on a preconfigured model company.

As the engagement comes to an end, our support team com-piles the results from all of the services in this first package into a comprehensive service report. If certain planning assump-tions have proved false, we redo or enhance planning to clarify questions and refine tasks.

Technical Implementation Services

The technical implementation value assurance service package for SAP S/4HANA includes the services of the previous pack-age and enhances it with services that help you design and implement the technical portions of your transformation. SAP extends its involvement in your digital transformation to include platform design and execution services and services for landscape transformation.

DESIGN YOUR PLATFORM

The platform design support services help you take the next steps to prepare your IT infrastructure for SAP S/4HANA. We support your platform definition with best practices for both hardware-centric and virtualized environments, focusing on high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR), capacity management, test planning, and quality gate planning. You gain detailed sizing projections, guidance for selecting server and storage hardware, and a map of key technical components to hardware and network zones. We also help you design a data-scaling concept for very large systems, providing cost- efficient data storage by reducing RAM requirements for the SAP HANA platform.

Defining the Technical Platform

We then work with you to define the platform that runs the technical components of the solution and to create a deploy-ment plan. We help you examine technical options and map software components to the virtualization layer and to hard-ware. We deliver a blueprint that documents the architecture we’ve developed, including boundary conditions and issues discussed. The consolidated view of technical design decisions, executed remotely by our in-house experts, helps you detect open topics.

Managing Capacity and Verifying Sizing

As part of this service, we offer a workshop to refine the rough sizing estimate from the planning phase. If necessary, we perform a data-scaling exercise to identify ways to make more

Setting Up SAP Solution Manager and SAP Data Services With these two services, we enable the installation and basic configuration of software solutions in systems relevant to your project and integrate them into SAP Solution Manager. And we install and configure SAP Data Services software to support migration of legacy data to SAP S/4HANA.

Converting a System

You can take advantage of this service if you want to convert existing SAP R/3® software or an existing SAP ERP application to SAP S/4HANA. The team follows these steps as needed: • Install or update SAP HANA on the target infrastructure • Migrate existing SAP software older than SAP ERP 6.0 to

SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA to fulfill con-version prerequisites, converting to Unicode if necessary • Convert existing SAP ERP 6.0 or later software to

As part of a landscape transformation assessment, our trans-formation experts:

• Investigate your current landscape with proven landscape transformation analysis capabilities

• Apply the latest landscape migration technology and SAP Data Services software tools

• Suggest related measures to safeguard the end-to-end success of the transformation project

The resulting migration proposal explains solution alternatives for meeting your landscape transformation requirements and recommends the optimal approach for your situation. Execute Your Landscape Transformation

The landscape transformation execution service supports your organization as you begin your physical transition to an SAP S/4HANA software environment. It contains several preconfigured sets of processes, including those for: • Central finance

Migration and Implementation Services

You can advance toward full implementation of SAP S/4HANA using the migrate and implement value assurance service package for SAP S/4HANA. The package also includes the services of the previous two packages, so you can make it your entry point into support for your deployment of SAP S/4HANA if you feel secure about your previous technical implementa-tion steps. SAP involvement in your transformaimplementa-tion project is high at this point, but you may also continue to work with a third-party partner for some aspects.

TRANSITION TO OPERATIONS

Wherever you started out on your journey, and whatever the scope of your initial project, the process inevitably entails changes to IT operations. The transition-to-operations (T2O) service defines the IT framework you need for operating SAP S/4HANA in your environment safely and efficiently, providing guidance on necessary processes, tools, and skills. Procedures in services vary depending on whether you want an on-premise, hybrid, or cloud implementation. However, in all scenarios, we help you:

• Mitigate the risk of project closure

• Achieve the target IT operational costs defined in the business case

• Gain a clear picture of the readiness of your IT organization to support planned changes

• Safeguard your project investment and realize business value

• Lay the groundwork for efficient resolution of post-going- live issues

• Support future projects more rapidly and cost-effectively • Transfer knowledge to bring new staff up to speed

Evaluating Operations Impact

SAP experts analyze the scope of the project to evaluate potential operational risks and identify areas of the support framework that must be in place before you go live with SAP S/4HANA. We also develop a road map detailing activities that your IT organization must complete to prepare your future IT support framework. These may include revising resource strategy, configuring tools, documenting procedures, and defining cutover activities.

Performing an Operations Technical Check

Two to three weeks before you go live, your T2O team helps you perform a technical readiness check. Your staff runs self-checks on the status of knowledge transfer and tests for support processes. Our staff checks the setup of monitoring, troubleshooting, and software logistics. We can also help ana-lyze any incidents that have occurred since the deployment of the solution, addressing such key management concerns as: • What challenges are users experiencing?

• How difficult are their challenges?

• How efficiently does the IT organization support the new solution?

• Where do the solution and the support framework need improvement?

PERFORM BUILD DESIGN

With services for build design, you work with the support team to gather functional requirements and identify the solutions to implement during build execution. If you are converting an existing system, we first redesign relevant business processes according to predefined industry-specific models to help ensure optimal use of your new capabilities. We focus on data volume from the outset, to help you take advantage of the key features of SAP S/4HANA from day one. The application of best practices in gap analysis and change management helps you maintain high performance and foster end-user accep-tance across the enterprise.

Training Key Users

One of the first steps is a brief period of methodology training, to set team expectations and introduce the SAP Activate meth-odology if you are not yet familiar with it. You also learn how to implement or adjust processes relevant to your implementa-tion, in predefined areas such as core finance, order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, and accelerated plan-to-product processes. Performing Fit-Gap Analysis

In this phase, we help you pinpoint gaps between standard SAP S/4HANA software functionality and your requirements, recording the gaps and, where possible, suggesting solutions, including estimates of effort. You participate in workshops on the business priorities relevant to your transformation and receive a detailed analysis of topics we discussed.

Also during this phase, your project team must choose whether users will access solution capabilities in the standard user interface or through a Web browser. And you must assign business roles to transactions, set requirements for autho-rization, and specify key performance indicators for data volume management and system monitoring.

Once we identify gaps, we help you design and document solutions. The final comprehensive report describes gaps and solutions at an appropriate level to help you secure executive approval.

Planning a Testing Program

The objective of the test-planning service is to create a project-related testing framework, including input from your in-house testing policies. The framework encompasses methodology, standards and guidelines, test-case development, defect man-agement, reporting and analysis, and roles and responsibilities. We help you develop separate strategies for performance test-ing and for functional testtest-ing at the levels of unit, strtest-ing, scenario, and user acceptance, plus integration and regression testing. Defining Data Volume Strategy

If you have already implemented a data-archiving strategy, you must adjust it for SAP S/4HANA. If you have no data- archiving strategy in place, or if sizing results indicate the need for a server larger than you planned for, we help you discover possible infrastructure and implementation solutions. Then our application experts help you evaluate options for archiving, housekeeping, and information lifecycle management as you define a strategy for managing data volume. Together, we define the points at which various kinds of data can be archived, how you can access archived data, and when the data can be destroyed.
