Congratulations

Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Walsh who were safely delivered of a baby girl during the holidays. Baby Evie and mum are home and doing well. We hope that they will be able to visit soon.

Congratulations to the Junior B netball team who defeated Sutherland North Public School 7-5 with only 5 players during camp week. We were short two players on the court. Faces were very pink due to all of the running. It was a wonderful display of team work and a phenomenal effort by all. Well done Eve, Soraya, Jacinta, Charlotte and Mia !!!

Principal’s Message

Welcome back to what will be a very, very busy term! I hope you have been able to stay warm and dry over the holidays, recovered from colds and viruses, and enjoyed some family time. There is a lot going on in term three and as there will be a number of days when the office staff will be at

mandatory training days due to the implementation of the new school software and management system (LMBR), there may be times when things don’t run as smoothly as usual. Please be patient during the next six months as these changes gradually come in.

This term we have many performances:

Sutherland Shire Music Festival Concerts Dance Extravaganza (4 August)

Youth on Parade (Week 9)

Grandparents’ and Friend’s Day (Week 10)

We have an open classroom morning (8.30-9am) on Wednesday 3 August in Education Week where you can come and visit the rooms and see the children’s work.

We have our Book Fair and book character dress up parade on Wednesday 24 August, and on the same day we will have performances of dance, choir, and band (in previous years this has been during Education Week but this year we are combining the events).

And... to celebrate the Olympics and Paralympics we will be having our own Olympathon on Friday 26 August (in between Season 2 and Season 3 of PSSA).

There are parent/carer information sessions on anxiety (18 August) and resilience (9 September),

Interrelate is next week – please the flyer sent home last term.

The P&C will be working hard to finalise the 60th Anniversary Cookbook and preparing for the fete on 6 November. The students have been designing artworks for the cookbook and some students will participate in a series of photo shoots (thank you Mr Kesselaar) in early August for the book also. It’s a very exciting time here at Jannali East!

P&C

Our next P&C is meeting is on Tuesday 2 August at 7.30pm. All welcome. Remember, for all the latest news and information about our P&C and events to celebrate our 60th Anniversary, visit

www.jepspandc.org.au.

You can also sign up to our newsletter https://www.facebook.com/JEPSFETE2016/

The P&C are looking for ex-students who attended Jannali East during the following years to complete a questionnaire. If you know of people who came to the school during:

1980-1989 1990-1999 2000-2009

Could you ask them to contact the school to have a questionnaire sent to them.

P&C Mufti Day – Reminder!!

Next Wednesday 27 July our P&C will be having a Mufti Day where children can come in their regular clothes (not their uniform) in return for bringing in a luxury item or bottle of something special. Children can donate a bottle of “drink that may need to be delivered to the office” because it may be in a glass bottle, or a luxury item such as beauty products, a hamper for a man, lady or new baby. We will leave it to your luxurious imagination.

Kinder Enrolments

We already have two full Kindergarten classes for 2017. Please ensure you have submitted your child’s enrolment for 2017. Information will soon begin to be sent to families about our Kindergarten Orientation and Transition Sessions. The dates for our Kindergarten Orientation and Transition sessions are as follows:

Thurs 20 October Wed 26 October Wed 9 November

Please note there are three sessions this year. Tutus

Do you have any spare tutus that could be donated to the school for the Kindergarten girls to wear during performances at school for dance? If so, please send them in to Mrs Melrose. We are looking at sizes that would fit a 5-6 year old. Thank you.

Lost Property

All lost property that does not have a label is being thrown out. Items in good condition will be given to the P&C Uniform Shop to be sold. If you are able to assist with washing items in good condition, please see Mrs Ward. Thank you for your help.

If your child is out of uniform, items from lost property will be given to him/her to wear. There is no excuse for any child to be out of uniform.

No Bushwalking Please

In the afternoons there are a number of students playing in the bush area in the school grounds along Box Road (in between the administration building and the Stage 3 demountable buildings). This area is out-of-bounds for our students during the day as well as for those students attending Before and After School Care. It is also out-of-bounds for students when they are with their parents on school property. The bush area is being damaged by children in the afternoon and the area needs to regenerate. Please keep your children out of that area as well as the gardens that members of the school community have worked so hard to establish.

Staff Information

At the time of going to print, our school has been assigned a temporary school counsellor. As I mentioned in the previous newsletter, there has been a restructure of the school counselling service across some areas of the Sutherland Shire and unfortunately our school has been affected.

Special Visitors

During the term a small number of Stage 1 students from Bates Drive School will be joining students in Year 2 at Jannali East for sport. The Bates Drive students will travel to our school by bus with their teachers and join in small group activities on Fridays during Term Three. This will be a positive experience for everyone and our students are excited about their special visitors.

The last day of Term Three is Friday 23 September. Term Four begins on Monday 10 October. Katherine Horner

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ROALD DAHL!

This year we are celebrating 100 years since the birth of one of the world’s most famous children’s book authors. Roald Dahl would have been 100 on 13th September. This term at fruit break we will be having lots of funtabulous activities based on the books of Roald Dahl and each week there will be a competition – quiz, quotes and puzzles. Camp 2016 – Exercising our Democratic rights

What’s happening in PBL this term?

This term we are looking forward to including in our PBL program specific lesson focuses each week. Students will be taught about our school wide expectations both in and out of the classroom to enhance student well being.

Week 1 and 2 – Boundaries Keep us Safe –

Lessons will focus on where students are allowed to go at specific times of the day. There have been some slight changes to where students are allowed to go in the morning. These are as follows:

All students K – 6 may play on either the top or middle playground. Handball and netball shooting can take place on the top playground and handball only in the middle playground. Students may play quiet games or read on the verandahs in either playground. The top toilets and wash sheds are to be used in the morning. There are some new red lines marked on the playground to indicate where students need to be.

Reminders Canteen Helpers

The P&C urgently needs some additional helpers for the canteen on a Friday. For the canteen to function effectively in Term 3 we need a number of volunteers to fill the spaces of people who have returned to work. As many parents and carers work, grandparents, aunts and uncles are welcome (neighbours too!). All that is needed is a Working With Children Check (available from the school office). If you can’t help regularly but are keen to join the reserve list, that would also be appreciated too.

Please go to the P&C website to let me know if you are able to assist:

School Banking

Jannali East Public School is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students.

The School Banking program provides children with an opportunity to deposit money into their Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account at school each week. The program is about how often your child makes deposits, not how much they deposit.

To encourage regular savings behaviour the program offers an exciting Rewards Program. Every deposit earns your child a Dollarmites token, and once they’ve collected 10 tokens they can redeem them for a reward.

The rewards available during 2016 are:

• Flying Snake Tail

• Wildlife Writer Set

• Mud Splat Handball

• Outback Pat Bag Tag

• Backtrack Eraser Pen

• Jump and Skip Rope

• Bush Fly Fan

• Wriggly Glow Worm

We also have wonderful competitions running

throughout the year giving your child & school a chance to win wonderful prizes. School Banking starts on Wednesday starting 27 July 2016.

Each week you need to bring in your banking book and place it in the canteen letterbox every

Wednesday.

You can open an account at your local branch. All you need to bring is your current identification as well as your child’s birth certificate. If you are an existing Commonwealth Bank customer and have NetBank, you can open an account online.

If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2016 School Banking program information pack from the school office.
