transportation. Maybe the numbers are right, but most likely someone hopes that the numbers will be right.

Right: What is the visitor really going to do? Wrong: What do you want the visitor to do? Hope is not a factor in traffic management!

Plan your measures as a module oriented construction set! Start with minor actions like traffic signs and signposts. End it with

drastic measures like the closing of roads.

Inform visitors and traffic participants

Wrong:a lot of information helps traffic control Right:Give few but defined information.

Do not interrupt the information chains.

If you have to apply your measures, do it quickly and immediately. Normaly every measure applied too late loses a lot of its efficiency.

Traffic management is really important for major events. But the overall security, safety and rescue will always come first (police, fire department and ambulance) Build up a direct communication with these departments. The following organisational structure proved successful in traffic management during major

events.

Each person has to have an exact description of his specific task, which they need to know including their information chain.
