FROM OUR PRINCIPAL ~
During the next few months we will be busy completing the end of the year state assessments. As many of you may know the State of Michigan will no longer be doing the MEAP test that was administered to students in grades 3-8 every fall. Instead, there is a new test called the M-STEP (Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress). This test will now be administered in the spring beginning this year. This test will be administered 100% online. We will administer the English Language Arts and Mathematics tests to students in 3rd-5th grades at Linsday. The 4th graders will also take a Science test and 5th graders will take Social Studies. This testing is new to all of us and we have been working hard to prepare our students to be ready both academically and technologically for this test. The testing window for 5th graders is the weeks of April 13-27; for 4th graders it is the weeks of April 27-May 11; and 3rd graders are the weeks of May 18-June 1. As we finish creating more detailed schedules, those will be passed along to you. During testing times we will be asking for your help to be sure that students are getting to school on time each day and are well rested so they can do their best. If you have any questions regarding the testing please feel free to contact me. ~Mrs. Ball
ART ROOM NEWS!
Come see your fellow Linsday Elementary artists!
Eleven phenomenal students were selected to
be on display in the Teenworks & Kids Kreations
Exhibit at Studio 23 (901 N. Water Street) in downtown Bay City, MI. Students who have
been selected to be in the show will receive letters home this week.
Please join us for the Opening Reception March 6th from 4:30pm until 7:30pm. Exhibits runs
March 6th to April 3rd.
Starting March 2nd, Linsday’s beautiful faces will be on display at the Bay City Mall. Every
student at Linsday created a Monochromatic Self-portrait. Come and find your artwork! (A
few unfinished portraits did not get included.) Students have been learning about color theory
and color mixing.
Additional artwork will be on display at the mall later this spring.
CHECK OUT OUR STUDENTS’ ARTWORK DISPLAYED AT THE BAY CITY MALL!
Our third, fourth and fifth graders enjoyed a fun-filled hands-on learning experience with Cranbrook's Art and Science On the Go program on February 27th. Students were able to work with Arduino programming software, creating circuits and programs and learning how science and art can interact in an innovative and creative way.
Bay City Public Schools Integrated Pest Management Program – Parent Notification Dear Parent or Guardian:
State of Michigan law requires schools and day care centers that may apply pesticides on school or day care property to provide an annual advisory to parents or guardians of students attending the facility.
Please be advised that the Bay City Public Schools utilizes an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach to control pests. IPM is a pest management system that utilizes all suitable techniques in a total pest management system with the intent of preventing pests from reaching unacceptable levels or to reduce an existing population to an acceptable level. Pest management techniques emphasize sanitation, pest exclusion, and biological controls. One of the objectives of using an IPM approach is to reduce or eliminate the need for chemical applications of pesticides. However, certain situations may require the need for pesticides to be utilized. As required by State of Michigan law, you will receive advance notice regarding the non-emergency application of a pesticide such as an insecticide, fungicide or herbicide, other than a bait or gel formulation, that is made to the school or day care grounds or buildings during this school year. In certain emergencies, such as an
infestation of stinging insects, pesticides may be applied without prior notice to prevent injury to students, but you will be notified following any such application.
Advance notification of pesticide applications, other than a bait or gel formulation, will be given by at least two methods.
The first method will be by posting at the main entrance to the school / day care center. The second method will be by the method(s) checked below:
Posting in a public, common area of the school or day care center, other than an entrance.
E-mail. A telephone call by which direct contact is made with a parent or guardian of a student of the school /
day care center or a message is recorded on an answering machine.
Providing the students of the school or children of the day care center with a written notice to be delivered to
their parents or guardians.
Posting on the school or day care center’s web site.
Please be advised that parents or guardians of children attending the Bay City Public Schools are entitled to receive the advance notice of a pesticide application, other than a bait or gel formulation, by first class United States mail postmarked at least 3 days before the pesticide application, if they so request. If you prefer to receive the notification by first class mail, please contact the Bay City Public School Facilities Department at 989-686-8371, to be place on the notification registry.
Please be advised that parents or guardians of children attending the Bay City Public Schools may review the school’s integrated Pest Management program and records of any pesticide application upon request.
