Summer Special Wine Selections

Bargetto Ìla Vitaî 2003 (Santa Cruz Mountains) 109

The seventh release of Bargetto’s ìLa Vitaî coincides with the winery’s 75th anniversary. A unique blend of 50% Dolcetto, 27% Nebbiolo, and 23% Refosco. With 21/2 years in barrel and and additional 2 years in the bottle before release, this is still a powerful wine that will be best enjoyed with food. Aromas of cedar, molasses and dried cherries. Dark cherry and violet flavors are supported by firm tannins. Etude Pinot Noir 2010 (Carneros) 70

91 points Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, the 2008 Pinot Noir exhibits copius aromas of forest floor, strawberries, black cherries, hints of Allspice and herbs. Medium bodied, beautifully textured and complex. Flora Springs “trilogy” 2007 (Napa Valley) 145

This vintage is another great expression of the terrior of the Napa Valley. The blend features aromas of oak and cherry, moving into the classic Cabernet flavors of black cherry and cassis. Accented by hints of raspberry, tobacco, plum and a ruby richness, the wine has a firm tannin structure that makes it approachable now. Elegant and full of fruit flavor, this wine has all the elements that have made Trilogy famous for the past 20 years. Heitz Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 1999 (Napa Valley) 240

“Martha’s Vineyard” is back, 100% Cabernet with chocolate and mint flavors and cherry, currant and cedar notes on the finish. Great aromas and a wonderful lingering aftertaste. 93 points in the August 2001 Wine Spectator. Joseph Phelps ‘Insignia’ 2009 (Napa Valley) 325

The opaque, inky color of the 2006 Insignia is followed by concentrated aromatics of black fruit, graphite, coffee, dark cocoa powder, licorice, and cola syrup. The dense flavors and balanced tannins integrate beautifully for a long, layered finish. Robert Parker rated this vintage a 95. Opus One Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 (Oakville) 375

Opus One Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 (Oakville) 335

Opus One Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 (Oakville) 345

Opus One Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 (Oakville) 355

Combining two of the biggest names in wine, Opus One brings together Mondavi and Mouton Rothschild with the goal of making world class wine in the Napa Valley. Pasos Vineyards Charbono 2008 (Lodi) 57

If there ever was a once-and-future king of black-skinned grapes, it’s charbono. The 2008 Pasos Charbono is a contemporary classic; exuding sweet, dark plums and mocha café, with touches of dried blueberries. On the palate, this dark ruby red is full, dense and fluid with a zesty edge of natural acidity. Pisoni Estate Pinot Noir 2009 (Santa Lucia Highlands) 140

Bright ruby red. Deeply pitched aromas of cherry-cola and dark berries, with a strong kick of fresh flowers. From the vineyards of the master growers of the Pisoni Family. Quintessa Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 (Rutherford, Napa Valley) 255

Quintessa 2010 opens with fragrant plum and raspberry aromas with notes of cola, clove and white chocolate rounding out a delicate perfume. The wine enters the palate with sweet red currant and plum fruit flavors and a silky mouthfeel. As it coats the mouth, concentrated dark fruit flavors emerge with succulent balanced tannins, a subtle impression of well-integrated oak and sweetness from the rich, ripe fruit. 93pts WS. Rosenblum Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard 2006 (Sonoma Valley) 82

One of the top producers of Zinfandel, this wine is an excellent expression of its mountain grown fruit. With big, ripe, cherry, raspberry, and cocoa flavors, spice and a touch of smoke. Powerful without being over the top; intense, but with a sense of elegance. Sea Smoke “southing” Pinot Noir 2010 (Sta. Rita Hills) 125 Named after the fog that floods its way from the ocean up the Santa Ynez River valley, Sea Smoke has quicklybecome one of the most sought after Pinot Noirs in California. Light to medium garnet in color, with a nose of dried and fresh flowers, then blueberries. Raspberry, vanilla, and red currant flavors create a voluptuous mouthfeel, with light tannins that are balanced by the vineyards’ cool climate acidity.
