Dear Expectant Parents,

Thank you for your interest in CorCell and congratulations on the impending birth of your child. The day your child is born is a momentous occasion. And saving your baby’s cord blood can help protect his or her health in the years to come. It’s important to remember that the opportunity to collect and preserve your baby’s umbilical cord blood only comes once in a lifetime. If cord blood is not collected at birth and preserved, this irreplaceable source of stem cells is lost forever. These regenerative cells may help your baby combat life-threatening illness. CorCell is the trusted cord blood banking company for new parents. We’ve been banking baby’s cord blood for more than 15 years and go through the most rigorous procedures in the industry to help protect your family’s stem cells.

This booklet should answer most of your questions about CorCell and cord blood banking and includes everything you need to enroll. You can find even more information at corcell.com or by calling our 24-hour customer care center at (888) 882-2673 with any questions. Or text CorCell to 46800 and a representative will call you immediately.

Congratulations again on taking this first step toward helping secure your baby’s tomorrow.

Best wishes to you and your family’s future,

Banking cord blood helps protect your

child’s future health

Our son Jake was born with Bladder

Extrophy, a rare birth defect. In the future Jake’s stem cells may be able to be used for reconstructive repair to grow his own tissue, something his body won’t reject because it is his own. This could mean a world of difference for the

quality of life our son will have, and for that I am eternally grateful that we took the step to save his cord blood with CorCell.”

Sandra Gallagher-Mohler Maryland

As you prepare for your newborn’s arrival, protecting his health is among your top concerns. Preserving his cord blood is an important step for securing future well-being. The five minutes it takes to save your child’s cord blood cells could prove to be a once in a lifetime opportunity to retain this protection.

Collecting cord blood is painless and safe for mother and baby. When you choose CorCell, your baby’s umbilical cord blood is being collected and preserved the right way, every step of the way. So it’s easy for you, your doctor and the hospital.

Cord blood stem cells, a life-saving resource for disease treatment

Stem cells from cord blood, like bone marrow cells, are now being used to successfully treat more than 70 diseases including leukemia, anemia, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, many other cancers, and impaired immune systems. Researchers are encouraged by the potential of rapidly expanding medical applications utilizing cord blood stem cells.

Your baby’s own stem cells

Umbilical cord blood contains stem cells. While it’s something no new parent wants to think about, if your child should ever need a stem cell transplant, his very own match will be on reserve when you bank this cord blood. Treatment time is faster and there are no rejection issues—dramatically increasing the chances of a successful transplant.

A potential match for another family member

Although not always a perfect match, banked stem cells could potentially be used to treat siblings or other blood relatives should there be a close match.

Umbilical cord blood has been used as an alternative source of hematopoietic stem cells for the treatment of human disease since 1988.

The cumulative probability that a person will have some type of stem cell transplant by age 70, either from their own cells or from a donor, is approximately 1 in 200.*

Cord blood stem cells hold amazing promise for the future.

Researchers are encouraged by the rapidly expanding potential of medical applications utilizing cord blood stem cells.

Today there are more than 10,000 stem cell clinical trials occurring around the world to address pervasive conditions such as cerebral palsy, heart disease, diabetes, lung disease, liver disease, lupus, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, Parkinson’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, spinal cord injury, stroke and more.

CorCell is the choice for families desiring both treatment options now and in the future. Unlike other companies our cord blood samples are processed utilizing the technology required to take advantage of impending cellular therapies.

My mom was dying of ovarian cancer and decided that saving her grandchild’s umbilical cord blood would be her gift to him. Since there is familial history of blood-related and other cancers in both mine and my husband’s families, we decided to save all of our children’s umbilical cord bloods.”

We’re oriented toward the future of medicine

for the future of your children

Our process is unparalleled

• Obstetricians find our Collect-A-Cord™ kits safe, reliable and easy to use. A

specialized medical courier transports your baby’s cord blood to our new las Vegas laboratory, under time and temperature guidelines, where it is tested according to FdA cellular therapy protocols.

• The initial cord blood collection volume averages 80-100 ml and after processing is complete, your stem cells are stored in a 25 ml multi-compartment cryobag.

• Finally, your baby’s cord blood is frozen (cryopreserved) and then stored in our experienced, licensed, secure, cutting-edge cord blood banking facility with around-the-clock monitoring.

CorCell offers peerless cellular engineering for more therapeutic options now and in the future

• All specimens are tested to ensure the stem cells meet the rigid standards for transplantation or other

therapeutic use. They are evaluated for bacterial contamination and infectious disease. Also, the number of stem cells are counted both before and after processing. • Cord blood processed by

CorCell will not be limited for use in only the straightforward transplants commonly

performed today, it will also qualify for the manufactured cell therapies of tomorrow developed by current research efforts. This is a unique

advantage CorCell provides to our customers.

The Cord Blood Processing System

• We use a functionally closed cord blood processing system.

• Our system is both sterile and manual, which provides a flexibility not available with automated systems like AXP or Sepax. Automated systems assume every cord blood collection is exactly the same, when in fact each sample is unique to the donor. Regardless of the size of the sample, the processing solution used can be modified to optimize cell yield: our technicians have control at each stage of the process. • Interconnected 2-bag design and sterile

fluid path limits cell manipulation while minimizing environmental contamination and identification errors with individual component traceability.

Collection: A painless, non-invasive and

risk-free procedure

Collecting cord blood is 100% painless and safe for mother and baby. Plus, it’s free of religious or ethical controversy because life is being preserved and not discarded. Whether the birth is natural or cesarean makes no difference. The entire process is handled by your delivering physician or attending nurse. The procedure will not interfere with the birth process or post-partum bonding in any way.

Your Doctor’s job

• CorCell’s collection procedure is preferred by obstetricians for its safety, reliability and simplicity.

• The doctor or nurse will draw blood from the mother for hospital use as well as for infectious disease testing by the cord blood lab. It is important to make sure maternal blood is drawn utilizing the empty vials included in your kit.

• After the umbilical cord is cut, your doctor or attending nurse will follow CorCell’s very simple cord blood collection procedure and collect the cord blood into a sterile closed-system bag that has the least chance of contamination.

• They will return the collected specimens to you in the Collect-A-Cord™ kit for

courier pick up.
